2. Division
When we divide we share equally. That
means there is the same number in each
group.
If you had sweets and shared them equally
between you and a friend, it would only be
fair if you both had exactly the same
amount.

3. Division - sharing
• First we are going to look at Division through
sharing.
• Watch these next examples and then it will be
your turn to have a go.
• Look how the objects are shared equally, one
at a time. You will need to do the same.

4. 10 2 =5

5. 6 3 = 2

6. 12 3 =4

7. Now it’s your turn to do some sharing!
• Use cubes, counters or any objects you have
at home to have a go at practically sharing the
activities on the next few pages.
• After you have shared the objects you can
record the sums in your exercise book or on
paper if you want to.

10. Division - Grouping
To help us solve division mentally we can use
grouping.
Get 12 cubes and put them into groups of 2.
12 ÷ 2 = 6

11. Now try with 20 counters – can you put them in
equal groups of 5?
Get 10 counters – can you put them in equal
groups of 2?

12. Solving division mentally
• We can use ‘grouping’ to solve division quickly by counting in
groups of 2, 5, 10 on our fingers.

13. Have a go at these using your fingers to
count in groups....
• Record your answers in your exercise book or on paper and send us a
photo of them #H2S
