Navigator–
a streamlined and selective online tool to connect public
health professionals with engaging learning experiences.
The Learning Navigator enhances the quality of learning
by identifying existing quality training and building the
capacity of organizations to produce quality training.
Why Now?
Finding training is easy.
Finding the right training is tough.
The public health field is constantly evolving. This means that as public health workers, our
knowledge and skills must also continually grow. Access to high-quality, peer-reviewed training is
essential for us to stay ahead of the curve.
Yet… how many times have you searched for an online training but had to give up because either
a) you were overwhelmed by choices, or b) you couldn’t be sure that what you did find was actually
a quality resource?
If you’re like us, that number is pretty high…
The Learning Navigator saves you time because we do the hard work of
searching for training, determining its quality, and helping training producers to
develop quality online learning. We accomplish this through a 4 step process…
How does it work?
We simplify the process by doing
all the hard work for you.
STEP ONE
Nominate a Training
We need you to help us find the best training.
Training providers, training participants, and you can
nominate a training. Seen something really great?
Tell us about it! Generally, we are looking for online,
self-paced learning opportunities.
STEP TWO
Screen the Training
Once nominated, NNPHI’s internal education team
screens the training to ensure it is appropriate to
enter a peer review process (e.g., the training links
work; sound quality is okay, etc.).
Once a training has been screened, it is sent to
three external peers for review. Learning Navigator
reviewers have a variety of subject matter expertise
and are trained to reliably assess online learning in
accordance with the Quality Standards for Training
Design and Delivery.
STEP THREE
Peer Review
About the Quality Standards
The Quality Standards are the heart of the Learning Navigator.
They describe key attributes one might expect to see in high-
quality training with a focus on learner engagement. The
standards are used for the peer review process and can support
training developers throughout the development process.
The current version of the Quality Standards, v 1.0, Online
Learning Edition, was developed over many years with input
from hundreds of public health professionals.
Please access the Quality Standards at phlearningnavigator.org.
Training that successfully satisfies the peer review process
is featured on the Learning Navigator and receives a
Quality Seal valid for five years. We encourage training
developers to place the seal on the training home page,
indicating to learners that is has been Certified Quality
through the Learning Navigator Peer Review.

… you’ve submitted a training that doesn’t
fully meet the Quality Standards?
Don’t worry. We are committed to supporting individuals and
organizations to create high-quality public health training. This means
we’ll offer training providers specific feedback from reviewers about
how the learning opportunity might be improved.
We’re counting on professionals like YOU to help fill the Navigator with high-quality learning.
We’ve screened and reviewed over 350 trainings to bring the first seven featured on the
Navigator. We’re all set up and ready to find more! Why don’t you…
