Current Employment
May 2011-to date. ASDA Stores Ltd, Trading Law Manager / Auditor/ALS Compliance
Coordinator .
Netto Foodstores Ltd was acquired by ASDA in April 2011 to develop a small store format
and as part of the transition process I was embedded into Asda House to lead the Health
and Safety department transition from Netto into Asda.
Once the acquisition was complete I was initially appointed to review the Asda Health and
Safety Policy and look at how this could be integrated to the Netto small supermarket format.
I aligned and simplified the Policy to reflect the management structure in these stores to the
documentation and simplified the Policy for Netto.
September 2011 I was appointed as a Trading Law Auditor within the Food Safety / Health
& Safety Audit Team across all formats-Superstores, Livings, Supermarkets and Petrol
Forecourt Stations.
Key responsibilities:
• Whilst in this team I have led the development of the Small Store Supermarket audit
programme to reflect the health and safety/food safety processes and trial led it to
ensure it was fit for purpose before it was rolled out. During this process I was liaising
with the Retail Operations Director (South) and Area Management as well as Asda
House process owners to acquire their buy-in and sign off for the audit to commence.
• As the supermarket specialist I have created and provided upskill training sessions
for the Supermarket Managers across the regions to build on their aid their
understanding of the audit; why we audit and that compliance is key to ensuring that
our customers and colleagues are safe and reduce the potential for accidents and
incidents and potential external enforcement activity.
2. • In the Superstores I audit stores in the North and Scotland and attend their Regional
Meetings to provide updates and coaching advice on the Audits that have been
completed. I have good communication skills (both verbal and written); with the ability
to positively influence managers and colleagues at all levels; able to command
respect from others.
• There are quarterly department meetings to attend and review audit programmes
with the relevant Asda House Process Manager to ensure they reflect current policy
and processes.
• Recently I participated in the development of the Big Box for Supermarkets which is a
guide for the stores as to how manage a store in a safe and legal manner to minimize
the risk of accidents, incidents and enforcement action.
• I have undertaken a project role with the North Supermarkets (90 stores) following up
on accidents and visits from Enforcement Officers ensuring that the stores are aware
of the systems, processes and current legislation and are operating safe and legally.
• Currently I have moved into ASDA Logistics Services which covers 27 distribution
centre’s across the UK. This is a new role to the Company and the scope is very
broad in terms of Compliance.
• My remit includes developing and writing policy and procedures; developing Primary
Authority advice and guidance, accident investigation at sites; coordination of training
and horizon scanning on compliance and regulatory areas. Liaising with Network
Managers and Health and Safety Managers and collation provision of Management
Information as well as attending the National joint Committee dealing with
compliance issues collaboratively with the GMB union.

Covering Lincolnshire to the Scotland/England border I had sole responsibility to increase
store portfolio for Netto by identifying and acquiring suitable locations for new stores or
relocation of existing stores. Responsible for the whole process from the acquisition of the
site to legal matters, planning and construction of the building.
The position involved dealing with developers, agents, lawyers, architects and planners,
coordinating all aspects of the process. There was a large element of working on one’s own
initiative and at the same time of being a team player, with time management, budgetary
matters (such as costs and sales), and information gathering (population statistics, planning,
site details) to prepare Main Board (Denmark) reports on all potential locations. As a
discounter the emphasis was on the site being a positive contributor to the Company from
store opening.

to customer demand in each store.
• Interpersonal skills. Responsible for establishing effective management, building a
team environment, recruitment of staff, planning and monitoring of their training
programme in the "Hands- on" approach of a Discounter.
• Financial Control. As a discount operation working on a high turnover, low overheads
and low profit basis the District Manager had to maximise profit in the stores by
controlling overheads and wages, increase sales and minimise stock-loss through
man-management and ordering. Planning budgets for each financial year, ensuring
they were both realistic and achievable based on past results and future
projection/competition.
• Monitoring competitors and responding with appropriate actions to increase/maintain
market share. Attending monthly meetings with the Trading Board and input to
