3. PERSONAL:
I have spent the vast amount of my career as a chief officer on short sea cargo vessels carrying a multitude of cargoes.
From the standard aggregates to high-grade quality steel working under different crews and under extreme timetables,
never having failed to meet the required standard, time frame and expectations. Have worked on some container
charters where service speed and constant workloads are heavy and to be expected. I enjoy and relish working under
heavy time constraints to complete the required service and contract.
I was new to the marine salvage, towage and environmental services industry especially involved in buoyage
replacement and maintenance services, I have took to this industry really well and enjoy the close team work ethics of
this sector especially as this sector of the marine industry is so far removed from the short sea sector I was employed in
before. Having only worked in the short sea sector before I have found the cross over into this sector enjoyable and
personally challenging but very achievable. The small vessel / workboat sector is a sector that I further wish to explore
and educate myself in.
The technical developments that are happening first offshore, then entering the short sea commercial sector are what I
am keen to embrace. As much as new technologies are pushing forward in the sea sector I find to always keep myself
aware of the old original skills. The offshore and new technologies sector is one that still needs and requires the old skills
interfaced with new skills. With technological advances always continuing at sea I enjoy taking up the challenge of
understanding and employing any new systems, equipment and theoretical that are in place or newly placed aboard a
ship. Being from the short sea sector I find myself to be very adaptable to take on new marine challenges and have often
stepped in to cover for the master both in ship handling and office requirements.
I enjoy keeping fit by walking and hiking whenever I can especially if the chance permits in port. I enjoy partaking in
team efforts as I think that on board vessel teamwork and co motivation makes for a far superior run vessel. After having
given up smoking after doing so for 30years I now find myself driven far more to succeed at new challenges and to finish
projects before or on time.
I took a sabbatical from my career from 09/1995 to 02/1998 to attend a university for higher education.
