Why Indian Learners?
•Globally, one of the largest MOOC sub-populations
•Significant Challenges within Higher Ed
•Largest university-aged population in the world
•Attracting significant investment from MOOC platforms:
• India-based Times Internet invested $49 million in Coursera (Sept 2015)
• Udacity offering 1000 scholarships to Indian learners for their entire NanoDegree Program (2015)
• edX, Coursera – both have multiple Indian partners
• Indian Government policy on MOOCs – Launching localized MOOC platform ‘SWAYAM’

•Total enrolments and completion of Indian Learners from May-November 2015 (n=59,275)
•Responses to the “More about you” survey of Indian Learners from 1 Jan 2016-31 March 2016

  • 1. Indian Learners on FutureLearn – What do we know? JANESH SANZGIRI PHD STUDENT - THE OPEN UNIVERSITY

Why Indian Learners? •Globally, one of the largest MOOC sub-populations •Significant Challenges within Higher Ed •Largest university-aged population in the world •Attracting significant investment from MOOC platforms: • India-based Times Internet invested $49 million in Coursera (Sept 2015) • Udacity offering 1000 scholarships to Indian learners for their entire NanoDegree Program (2015) • edX, Coursera – both have multiple Indian partners • Indian Government policy on MOOCs – Launching localized MOOC platform ‘SWAYAM’
