Special Education Teacher
I was a tenured teacher who taught Middle School resource room and inclusion classes at the 6, 7, and 8th
grade levels. I worked with students in the behavioral skills program as well as those with learning and
developmental disabilities. My role also included working in the student’s homes to provide academic
tutoring and parent training. I also worked on curriculum writing in various subject areas. I left this work
placement to shift to more flexible per diem hours after having my daughter.
2003- Behavioral Consultant
Present Behavior Specialist
I am currently an independent contractor providing behavioral therapy, assessments, and evaluations for
schools, families, and persons with behavioral challenges that interfere with overall personal well-being and
daily functioning. The population that I work with includes people with Autistic Spectrum Disorders,
chromosomal abnormalities and various behaviorally based diagnoses. I work with various age ranges from
toddler through adolescence, but I am eager to work with older adolescents and adults with behavioral and
learning challenges. I am quick to learn and know that behavioral principles can be applied to all age
groups.
Presently, I have been the sole behaviorist for a school district for the past 6 years and supervise, maintain,
and am responsible for four challenging classrooms. This involves program development and maintenance
using the VB-MAPP, AFLS and ABLLS, as well as ongoing hands on therapy with students. I create the
behavior plans; conduct Functional Behavior Assessments and reinforcement schedules. My responsibilities
include in vivo staff training and collaboratively working with each student’s team of therapists and
2. teachers. I also supervise and provide consultation for the district’s home program where the AFLS home
and community curriculum is utilized. I am responsible for conducting the district’s restraint training and
am Handle with Care certified.
