Magaizne proposal

Working Title:
The product is called ‘music beyond’
Audience:
The audience is general music fans that want to keep up to date with their favourite artists, since
the product is a magazine, it will need to appeal to people that don’t normally read magazines, it
needs to have pictures and artists that appeal to this audience. The gender of the audience can
differ on who the artist being featured is, if it’s a boy band then it will appeal to more females, if it’s
a metal band it will appeal to more males. The one that I’m making is going to feature a solo artist
that make more poppy music, which does generally appeal to more females, so that’s who the
product is going to appeal to. I’m aiming for the secondary audience to be any gender, since
there’s going to be sub articles that appeal to fans of other bands.
Since the biggest audience of music tends to be the middle to lower class, that’s who the product
is aimed at. Appealing to them shouldn’t be too hard since a lot of the more unknown magazine
companies are also in those categories. It helps knowing why those particular audiences listen to
music more, most of the time I find it’s because they can relate to a lot of what some artists use in
their lyrics, which makes them feel noticed and appreciated. So including an interview or
breakdown of the lyrics will help the magazine get noticed by those people, because they’ll want to
know more about the artist and what life was like before they became famous as they see a lot of
themselves in the artist.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
With Photoshop I’ve gotten better at figuring out how to cut objects out and place them somewhere
else, while keeping both images quality and making the end product look realistic. Picking out
colours that match and go well together, especially when making a magazine cover, is something
I’ve gotten better at.
Making double pages and organizing them was something I found really difficult at first, finding a
place for the images was the hardest part, but now I can visualise what I want before I make it and
then make it in Photoshop with semi decent accuracy.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept of the project is going to be a music magazine that covers a variety of things you’d
normally expect to see in a product like this. Things such as, a main article about the artist
featured on the cover, which will include an interview and new images. Then there’s typically a few
smaller articles about other smaller artists, they normally only have one picture along with them.
This product is going to focus on a made up solo artist that’s featured on the cover and will have a
full length article on one of the two or three double pages I plan on including.
The research I’ll need to do to help improve my product is see what existing products, see what
works best with them and what audience they appeal to, and HOW they’ve appealed to that
audience. I’ll also need to see what audiences will want from the main article, like what kind of
pictures they prefer what kind of questions normally get asked and what kind of artists should also
be featured (if they should be similar to the main artist that’s advertised or if they should be
completely different)
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
I plan on evaluating the work by seeing how well the product appealed to the target audience, how
much the product looks like an actual magazine, if the articles are believable, and if the photos
look somewhat professional. Also if the product is accurate to the pre production and research.
