9. Corruption in Pakistan is widespread, particularly in the
government, military, and lower levels of police forces.
The country has had a consistently poor ranking at the
Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions
Index with scores of 2.5 in 2011, 2.3 in 2010,[and 2.5 in
2009 out of 10. In 2011, Pakistan ranked 134 on the
index with 42 countries ranking worse. In 2012,
Pakistan's ranking dropped even further from 134 to
139, making Pakistan the 34th most corrupt country in
the world, tied with Azerbaijan, Kenya, Nepal, and
Nigeria. In recent new report it is on 46 in 2013
22. According to the national child labor
survey, approximately 3.3 million
children below 14 years are working
as a labor in Pakistan. This includes
both boys and girls — boys form 73 pc
and the girls 27 pc of the child labor.

Agriculture is account for maximum job provision in the
country. Agriculture sector is facing severe challenges of water
shortage, climate changes and technological backwardness in
recent years. About 62% of Pakistan population is living in
rural areas, and is directly or indirectly linked with agriculture
for their livelihood.
36. The picture of illiteracy in Pakistan is grim.
Although successive governments have
announced various programmes to promote
literacy, especially among women, they have
been unable to translate their words into
action because of various political, social
and cultural obstacles.

Pakistan is using drugs while nearly 25
per cent of the youth population is
involved in some form of drug abuse

are at higher risk of HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B & C,
tuberculosis, suicide, overdose deaths and
cardiovascular diseases. Married drug addicts have
high probability of having mentally retarded and
physically handicapped children. Young people
who use cannabis are doubling their risk of
psychotic symptoms like schizophrenia,
hallucinations, hearing voices etc, said Dr. Ashraf.
