This document aims at providing the adapted teaching strategy for children with Mild Intellectual Disability. The adaptation strategy used in the document is "Modification" for Grade V, Mathematics. If you have any questions for me, please drop a comment below.

1. ADAPTATION: MODIFICATION
Low Attention Span:
➢ Level of the child: Mild (ID)
An area of student need, involving difficulty with
maintaining concentration, especially on non-preferred
activities, while ignoring distractions.
● Subject: Mathematics
● Class: V
● Chapter 7: Can you see the Pattern?
General Teaching Strategy:
● Start with simple problems using concrete objects
● Using repetitive activity to learn and retain new information
● Provide frequent physical breaks; avoid long periods of sitting or being physically
inactive. For example: asking the student to collect/distribute materials, drop the material
to the office.
● Chunk assignments into parts and provide feedback when each step is finished.
● Providing reinforcement on-task behaviors like reinforcing with a star sticker, smiley,
hi-five, etc.
● Consider the use of music and headphones if it helps the student to concentrate.
● Facilitating the student with requisite prompts i.e. modeling, verbal, physical, gesture.
● Provide items that a student can physically manipulate (stress ball)
● Provide an alternate testing location that is more free of distractions
● Prompt the student to return to task if he/she seems to be off task.
● Allow additional time according to the needs of the child.
Time Management:
● 5 minutes of book work and 10 leisure time (Slot I)
● 5 minutes of book work and 10 leisure time Slot II)
Note: Gradually increasing the study time and decreasing the leisure time.
