Band Analysis

1. Band Genre Evaluation- Jade Ockerby
5 seconds of summer are a current band whose music genre is
pop punk, pop rock and power pop. When looking at the picture
you can tell that the genre is going to be rock and pop due to
their outfits and appearance. In this picture the boys all have
similar boots on to emphasis they have the same taste in
fashion. They are dressed in very casual clothing which is very
stereotypical of young teenagers; this is because young boys
nowadays wear casual clothing such as tracksuits. The boys on
either end of the picture look like they should be in a rock band
due to their crazy hair colours, I think this because you would
normally see artists with the appearance like this (crazy hair)
hair in some kind of rock band, this makes it very stereotypical.
boys in this photo are all doing some kind of pose to indicate
they are still young at heart. The ‘peace pose’ is very
stereotypical because all teenagers do this in pictures. The
target audience for 5 seconds of summer is mostly aimed at

2. young teenage girls. All the boys appearance’s in this picture
come across as being wild and funky which indicates they are
still young and just enjoying what they are doing. This picture is
formal balanced because there is symmetry.
Whitney Houston was a popular artist whose genre of music
was gospel music, however she also did R&B, pop and ballads.
In this picture she is wearing a very sparkly gold dress to
highlight her fame and has her hair and makeup done. Her
makeup is very dramatic as she has dark smoky eyes to
highlight her inner diva, but on the other hand she has light pink
lips to indicate her softer side. Her hair is done nicely in light
curly wavers, which indicates her genre of music. This is
stereotypical because you wouldn’t see someone whose genre
of music is rock have hair like this. This picture is formally
balanced as Whitney is positioned in the centre of the shot. She
has her arms slightly spread apart and her head tilted upwards
to the right hand corner. This emphasizes her power in the

3. music industry and indicates other artist look up to her. In the
picture the lighting is very bright which indicates her genre of
music
This is a picture of the young famous artist George Ezra whose
genre of music is folk music, blues and rock music. In this
picture he has his guitar which indicates that he likes musical
instruments and also enjoys using them at his concerts. This
highlights that he can not only sing but he can also perform with
an instrument. He is wearing a casual stripy jumper and jeans
to emphasis he is very laid back and not the type of singer who
is all about their appearance when performing. The lighting in
the picture is bright and radiant which goes with his personality
as his is a down to earth person. This picture is formally
balanced because he is sat in the centre of the shot. His hair is
to the side and quite neat which is strange because you
wouldn’t associate this with someone whose genre of music is
rock music, you would instantly think of wild messy hair. This is

4. very stereotypical. The target audience for George Ezra is older
teenagers and older people because they suit his genre of
music more than younger people.
This is a picture of the very popular singer song writer Taylor
Swift whose genre of music is country pop. In this picture she is
sat in a field which indicates her genre and emphasises her
style. She is wearing knee high brown boots and a denim
colour jumper which also indicates her genre of music. This is
very stereotypical because you would associate this outfit with
someone whose genre of music is country pop compared to
someone whose genre is like rock or gospel. I think the target
audience is young teenagers because they are more likely to
listen to this genre of music rather than older people. Also her
hair is very curly which emphasizes her style and genre of
music, this is also stereotypical because country singers
usually have curly hair. The lighting is very bright in this picture

because she is in the middle of the shot.
This is a picture of the very famous band The Beatles whose
genre of music was rock music and pop music. This picture is
in black and white to highlight that they are not a current band;
they were a previous, old-fashioned band. They all have similar
haircuts which could indicate that this was the rage years ago,
however I don’t think their haircuts suit their singing genre
because rock bands usually have wild haircuts, this is
stereotypical. They are all dressed very smartly in suits to
indicate their genre, but artists from rock bands aren’t
associated with smart suits they would usually wear something
black and crazy, this is also very stereotypical. I think the target
audience when they were younger would be all the young
teenagers and young adults, whereas now i think all the older
people are more likely to listen to their music.
