1. How did you use media technologies in the
construction and research, planning and
evaluation stages?
2. Planning and Research (Film)
During my planning and research I found websites such as Netflix,
Vimeo and Youtube invaluable in helping me to shape my short film.
This was because I was able to research films which fit the genre
in which I was aspiring to create such as 'Reservoir Dogs' and' Miller's
Crossing' via Netflix. In turn this helped establish clear generic
conventions of the Gangster genre which greatly influenced my film.
Examples of this include the garage setting and the formal attire of the
gangsters within my film.
I was also able to do further research on short films themselves and
how they are constructed. Through Vimeo and Youtube I was able to
view a wide range of short films ranging from an experimental Christopher
Nolan short called 'Doodlebug' to 'Connection' a true story directed by a
Belarusian named Vladimir Shcherban. By watching these short films I
was able to gather that I would only need one or two different locations.
3. Planning and Research (Poster and Review)
In the planning of my poster and review Google was pivotal in
helping me to develop my ideas. Firstly for my poster I was able
to search in Google Images, quickly and efficiently, posters of
other Gangster films. The film poster which had the greatest impact
in my research was 'Mesrine: Killer Instinct'. Looking at other posters
showed me some necessities which I would need in mine: a title which
sticks out, key credits and a picture which captures the feel of the film.
In terms of my review I first used Google to find film magazine websites
such as TotalFilm.com and Empire.com. By using the online magazines
I was able to analyse how film reviews are written which influenced my
final piece. Then I went back to Google Images to find out what the reviews
actually looked like and what they consisted of. I then put my two elements
of research together in order to create my final piece.
4. Construction (Film)
There were several key technologies involved within the construction
of my short film. The most prominent of these technologies were Final
Cut Pro, Audio Network and the social networking site Facebook.
