2. INT. BLACK ROOM WITH A SINGLE CHAIR IN THE CORNER AND A
TABLE WITH A LAMP AND A PICTURE OF A MAN AND A WOMAN.
ANDY wakes up in a black room with no idea where he is,
he is sitting on the chair in the corner of the room.
ANDY
(looking confused and scared)
Hello?
A voice comes from out of nowhere, filling the room with
its deep tone
VOICE
(calm and concise)
Hello Andy
ANDY jumps from his seat as he hears the voice
ANDY
Woah! Who are you? How do you know my name?!
VOICE
That does not concern you
ANDY
(laughing and walking around the room looking for
cameras)
Is this a prank or something? There must be a camera
somewhere?
VOICE
You need to listen to me; I need you to understand what
you have become and the purpose of your presence here.
It’s difficult to explain to you but I will try to show
you. Just listen
ANDY
Why should I listen to you, huh? What do even want with
me? I can’t even remember how I got here. All I remember
is leaving the hou-
ANDY’s words are cut short as he feels a sharp pain in his
back and falls to the floor
3. ANDY
(bending forward while clutching his back in pain)
Ah shit!
VOICE
The pain will end soon
ANDY
(strain in his voice as he tries to speak)
What do you mean?! What the hell was that?!
VOICE
There is not enough time Andy. I need to tell you
important information.
ANDY
(in a cocky manner)
I’m all yours pal, talk away
VOICE
I have been watching you Andrew, ever since you were
born. Every day I saw you grow, growing into what I can
only describe as a bastard. let me show you
ANDY
(angrily)
Hey who the hell do you think you ar-
ANDY holds his head in pain as he is reminded of what he
used to be like.
INT. OFFICE SETTING. DAY
ANDY is sitting at a desk in his office talking to a sad
student.
4. ANDY
(in a cocky voice)
Right, Mr Callaway. It says here that the next payment
for your rent Is due today. So, where is it?
MR CALLAWAY
(in a quiet timid voice)
But Mr Philips, you said that you would give me another 2
weeks to get the money.
ANDY
Well, that’s a pity. It looks like I have changed my
mind. I need the money by the end of the day or you are
going to be evicted from your property and I will need an
extra £100 for late payment
MR CALLAWAY
No sir please, I haven’t got the money. Please I need
more time.
ANDY
(pointing to the door)
See yourself out Mr Callaway. Thank you very much.
EXT. BAR. DAY
ANDY is talking to a girl at the bar and bragging about
his life. the lady says she is a teacher and ANDY doesn’t
takes her seriously
ANDY
(talking to the girl at the bar)
Yeah so I own about 50 properties in London and even more
across the U.K. I rent them out to students so I make the
most money I can because they are so desperate for
housing that I push the rent up every month. I like to
think that’s a clever move on my behalf
MARY
Oh ok that’s interesting. Well I am a primary school
teacher.
5. ANDY
Oh ok, so not as important as my job but that seems nice.
You must have fun. Its nice that you don’t think money is
important, very refreshing
MARY looks in disgust
INT. ANDY’S LIVING ROOM. NIGHT
ANDY is sitting at home on the phone whilst watching TV.
His mum calls him.
ANDY
Yes? Oh hello mum, what’s the matter?
ANDY pauses for his mothers response
ANDY
Yes I know its your 80th birthday today but I am out with
some work friends, I don’t care if the doctor said you
need company tonight I told you I’m busy! Goodnight!
INT. THE DARK ROOM. NIGHT
ANDY is taken bake to the room with a pain in his head,
he clutches his head as the VOICE talks.
VOICE
I have seen you make these mistakes and wrong many
people. I have seen you con people out of money. I have
seen you lie to people you love to get what you what you
need. However, I know this is not the real Andy.
ANDY
(confused but slightly embarrassed)
Ha, I have no clue what you’re on about! Wait until I
tell my lawyer about this! That was some kind of a mind
trick! I don’t remember doing those things!
6. VOICE
(stern voice)
Stop playing games Andy, enough is enough. That was how
you acted, that was how you treated those people. I know
that you don’t care about your life, but you must try and
care for the lives of others!
ANDY
(clutching his back in pain)
AHHH! Jesus Christ! It’s getting worse!
VOICE
Andy relax, you’ll be fine. Try and concentrate on me
ANDY recovering from his back pain, still shaken and
sore. He looks confused but upset and merciful. ANDY is
now sitting against one of the sides of the room.
Clutching his legs
ANDY
(almost in tears)
Please, why, why are you doing this to me!? How do you
know so much about me? What is this place!?
ANDY rocking back and forth like a patient in an asylum
VOICE
As I have said Andy, I have been watching you grow.
ANDY
(screaming at the top of his voice)
Who the hell are you!!
VOICE
Andrew, please, remain calm. It will be easier for both
of us
ANDY
(still yelling but at a lower volume)
What do you mean the both of us!? I don’t see you being
in any pain!?
7. VOICE
It hurts me to see you like this Andy. This is not what I
wanted for you. Deep down You are a good man; I know you
are and that’s why we are here.
ANDY
(confused yet angry)
Then why are you doing this to me!?
VOICE
You have made the decision to live your life this way and
I am trying to find the good in your heart
ANDY
(screaming in agonising pain)
Argh! God! Why can’t this stop!
VOICE
Soon. Soon it will end. Soon you can leave this place
ANDY slowly gets up from the floor and walks over to the
table with the picture on the table. The picture includes
ANDY and a woman. ANDY picks up the picture and looks at
it with a slight smile on his face
VOICE
You recognise this lady, don’t you?
ANDY
(looking happy for once and amazed and slightly confused)
Yes, I do, I don’t know how but, yes, yes is do recognise
her
VOICE
She relaxes you doesn’t she Andy.
ANDY
(a slight smile on his face)
Yes, she does. Whenever I look at her, I feel calm. I
feel like nothing can make me sad when I see her. Why do
I feel this way? Tell me who she is?
8. VOICE
That’s Mary
ANDY
(looking happy)
Mary, what a beautif-
ANDY clutches his back, his face drained of all emotion
ANDY
(straining and shouting)
Wh- what, what’s happening?!
VOICE
Oh dear, its starting.
ANDY on the floor in agony
ANDY
What’s starting!
VOICE
Its time Andy. I can say one thing, You have been in an
accident
ANDY
(shocked and sad, still squirming in agony)
No, no please. Please tell me who that lady is, please!
What accident!? What do you mean? tell me what happened!
I beg you! please!
VOICE
Your time has come. However, I can offer you another
option.
ANDY
(in pain)
Yes! Please! anything!
VOICE
I can allow you one moment on earth. A chance to view
what impact you made on the people you love. A chance to
understand the feelings of others. You choose how you use
this opportunity, it is your decision
9. ANDY
(confused)
Be more specific! What does that mea-
VOICE
We must go.
ANDY
Wait! Wait! just tell me what’s happen-
EXT. OUTSIDE BY A PATH OF GRASS NEAR A ROAD
ANDY starts to cough and eventually his eyes close. The
scene shines bright white and cuts to the floor of a road
and the real-life version of ANDY is in a body bag being
zipped up. A woman is seen running over to ANDY. The
woman is MARY (the woman in the photo)
MARY
(crying over the body)
That’s my husband! No, please, no please, no
Calming music takes over the crying sound, the camera
pans up to see ANDY standing looking at his body, ANDY is
now a ghost.
ANDY
Wait, I didn’t choose this moment. Why is mary so sad? I
was horrible to her? I always thought she hated me. The
hate she felt towards me was why I acted the way I did
The music quietens, the man of the VOICE is standing next
to ANDY. The man is wearing a black robe.
10. VOICE
Mary knew that you were a good man, she knew you had a
good heart deep down. Your mind chose this moment so you
could see that Mary loved you. Now You have seen how you
have acted; I can now see you are truly remorseful, and I
can see you have changed. Now come, someone is expecting
you.
The music gets louder and the body of the VOICE looks up
to the sky, ANDY looks at the man and then proceeds to
look up also.
