2. FADE IN:
INT. HOSPITAL WAITING ROOM - MORNING
We begin in a hospital with Lenny, sitting all alone in a
waiting room. He sits in the chair, fidgeting in his
chair, unable to keep still as the anticipation builds.
Woman comes into the waiting room.
WOMAN
The doctor is ready to see you
now.
Lenny takes one last deep breath and leaves his chair,
walking towards the doctors office.
INT. DOCTORS OFFICE
Lenny enters the doctors office, he shakes the doctors
hand and takes a seat. Theres silence for a few moments
as the doctor is on his computer.
DOCTOR
Good morning Lenny, how you been
feeling?
LENNY
(Nervously)
There seems to be a growing amount
of blood when I cough. Sometimes I
cant stop myself and end up
throwing up, which again is full
of blood.
DOCTOR
Ok Mr Lenny, we've had your test
results back and its not looking
good, it seems like you have an
aggressive form of cancer attached
to your right lung which is likely
to spread quickly. The cancer is
SCLC, otherwise known as Small
Cell Lung Cancer…
The sound of the doctors voice starts to drone out as the
camera focuses on Lenny’s face as we can see the
confusion and surprise in his face.
As the doctor is still explaining the specific problems,
the doctors voice comes back in as Lenny interrupts.

LENNY
(Quietly, tremble in his voice)
Is there anything we can do?
DOCTOR
The cancer has been attached to
your lung for a rather long time,
its viciously spread and covered-
Lenny again interrupts the doctor, shaking his head as
anger and confusion starts to grow.
LENNY
Are you telling me theres nothing
we can do?
DOCTOR
We can run some more tests, see if
theres a way to stop any further
growth. Because of your smoking
habits, we don't believe you'd be
able to function correctly with
only one working lung, therefore
any form of operation is out of
the question.
LENNY
How long do I have?
DOCTOR
The growth of cancer started
rapidly but its slowed down
drastically now, the effects are
too severe to reverse, therefore
we have no definite answer, it
could be anywhere from 6 months to
4 years.
FADE OUT:
FADE IN:
INT. BUS - MIDDAY
Camera cuts to Lenny just sitting on the bus, close-up on
his face as he sits there with a blank expression. Only a
2-4 second shot of him looking like he’s lost in his own
thoughts and his face is just emotionless.

INT. LENNY’S HOUSE - DAY
Camera cuts to the next shot of Lenny sitting at home in
his kitchen, all alone, eating his dinner. He has the
same emotionless expression on his face.
Camera then cuts to another close-up of Lenny, sitting in
his living room with the TV on in the background, he
doesn't look at the TV as he stares off into the
distance, still with the same emotionless expression on
his face as a loud noise comes on the TV and grabs his
attention. Lenny gets up and goes up to his bedroom where
he goes into a draw and pulls out a photo album. He sits
down and starts looking at all the photos. As he looks
through them, he starts to get emotional and upset as we
see that they are pictures of him and his family.
FLASHBACK - LENNY’S OLD HOUSE
Lenny sits in his kitchen with his ex-wife, letters and
bills all around them as he looks stressed with his head
in his hands. His son runs in and starts asking his mom
and dad for a new bike.
SON
Mom, Dad, all my friends have gone
out on their new bikes, when am I
going to get mine?
Lenny looks at his wife with a hint of disappointment in
his face.
LENNY
(sighs) uh, soon son, not right
now but soon, I promise.
The sons face drops and he leaves the room looking down.
Camera cuts back to Lenny as you can see the sadness that
he's letting his family down.
INT. LENNY’S BEDROOM - DAY
Camera cuts back to Lenny as tears run down his face, he
wipes them away and continues to look through the photos.
FLASHBACK - LENNY’S OLD HOUSE
Lenny walks into his sons bedroom whilst he's asleep and
strokes his face, he then kisses him on the forehead.
LENNY
(Whispers) I love you, son.

His son rolls over and sees him.
SON
(Whispers) I love you too, daddy.
Lenny leaves the room and goes downstairs. He puts his
bag on his back and leaves a small package and a note.
The camera cuts to the note so we can see what it says as
Lenny leaves.
MONTAGE - INT. LENNY’S BEDROOM
Lenny looks at the picture and turns it over where we see
a number on the back. He gets up and goes to pick up his
phone, he dials the number and goes to press call. He
paces up and down in his living room and toys with the
idea of calling his son. It cuts to him sitting on his
bed, moving his legs fast, showing a lot of signs of
anticipation. He continues to pace around the room until
he sits down and finally calls his son.
As the phone calls, the camera slowly zooms into Lennys
face. We hear his son answer.
SON
(Over Phone)
Hello?… Who is this?…
Lenny's freezes and tries to get out any words, he
stammers before hanging up.
INT. SONS LIVING ROOM
The son looks confused and looks at the phone as it cuts
dead. His wife walks in behind him.
WIFE
Who was that?
SON
Hm… Im not sure, just wrong number
I think.
INT. LENNYS BEDROOM - DAY
Lenny takes a deep breath and looks to the floor for a
few seconds.
LENNY
(To Himself) Come on Lenny, you
can do this.

He exhales and sits back up in his chair, he dials the
number again and calls.
LENNY’S SON
(Over the Phone)
Hello… Hello? Who’s there?
LENNY
(Clears Throat)
Okay… This is going to be weird to
hear but… I’m your father.
LENNY’S SON
(Stammers)
Woah… wait… what?
LENNY
I don't want to do this over the
phone so I was wondering if you'd
give me a chance to talk to you
tomorrow afternoon.
LENNY’S SON
A chance? You contact me after
nearly 20 years of leaving and
expect me to hear you out?
LENNY
Listen son -
LENNY’S SON
(Interrupting)
Son? Don't call me that
LENNY
Just listen, I went to the doctors
earlier… Ive been given 6 months.
LENNY’S SON
So what? You're doing this out of
guilt? You don't deserve my time,
don't call again.
LENNY
Listen, Im being treated at St
Andrews hospital, if you change
your mind, come see me.
Lenny's son slams the phone down on him. Lenny throws his
phone down and then rests his head in his hands as he
starts to cry.
INT. LENNY’S SONS HOUSE - DAY
Lenny’s son sits down in the chair and wipes his face
down with his hands. His wife walks in behind him.

WIFE
Honey? are you alright?
SON
Ugh… yeah, my dad who hasn't spoke
to me for nearly 20 years just
tried to talk to me.
WIFE
Wait, what?! What did he say?
SON
He wanted to see me, to explain I
guess, I don't know.
WIFE
Well what did you say to him, are
you gonna do it?
SON
Am I gonna do it? No Im not gonna
do it, he's doing this just to
satisfy his own guilt so he can go
in peace.
WIFE
Wait, what are you talking about?
SON
Hes been given 6 months to live, I
don't know why, cancer I’m
guessing. He wants me to come see
him at the hospital.
WIFE
Listen, I know you're angry at him
but I don’t want you to anything
you'll regret out of anger.
SON
What do you mean?
WIFE
I think you'll regret not hearing
him out. Im not saying have a
relationship with him, just go and
see what he has to say, maybe he
didn't do it for a bad reason,
maybe he did. You deserve to know
the truth.
Lenny’s son exhales and gets up.
SON
Ugh yeah I guess you're right,
thankyou. Ill see you later.

Lennys son walks out the room.
INT. HOSPITAL - DAY
Cuts to inside the hospital, Lenny walks through the door
and walks up to the counter.
LENNY’S SON
Hi, Im looking for Lenny Davies, I
was wondering if you could direct
me to his room? Im his son.
Secretary
Hold on a second… Yes, your father
is in room 84, just down the
corridor there.
The secretary points to the door and Lennys son smiles
and walks in that direction. He approaches the room 84 as
we focus on the room door. We cut to a close up of Lenny
as he starts deciding whether or not to go in. He opens
the door a small bit as you hear Lenny in the room.
LENNY
Hello?
The camera cuts to black as we hear the door close shut.
