Advanced Digital Technology Programmes
Our technology programmes
Digital Catapult delivers three game changing technology
programmes, each with strategic objectives to contribute
real action in UK Industrial Strategy.
Artificial Intelligence
The UK is a leader in the development of
AI. Digital Catapult’s AI programme
accelerates early adoption by industry and
grows the UK’s world leading machine
learning ecosystem.
Future Networks
Digital Catapult will drive the development
of new future networks business models
(eg in 5G and in LPWAN) from concepts
in university labs, to commercial reality
Immersive
Digital Catapult will make the UK the best
place in the world to produce immersive
content and applications.

5. Driving competitive advantage from Advanced Digital Technologies
Be the disruptive force
Advanced digital technologies
are increasingly disrupting whole
industries. Knowledge of where
the technology landscape is
critical to stay ahead of the curve.
Test new business models
The difficulty for industry in
developing the business cases
for advanced digital technologies
drives a need to look for innovative
business models, including shared
investment and reward.
Develop ecosystems
The nature of advanced digital
technologies makes it impossible
for any one organisation to stay
at the leading edge – so it is
critical to develop partnerships
with key innovators.
6. Immersive

TheWaveVR
Immersive Lab broadens
The WaveVR's reach into
new music markets
Challenge
TheWaveVR is a virtual reality
platform
for people who love music, enabling
them to view, host, and socialise in
shows world-wide, anytime, anywhere.
Based in Austin, Texas, the home of
SXSW, it was looking to extend its
footprint outside of the US.
Solution
The best VR needs to be experienced,
not just described. No presentation or
2D video will ever capture the full
sensation.
Digital Catapult’s Immersive Lab at
allowed TheWaveVR to demonstrate
its platform to potential partners in the
UK who may not have had access to
the latest VR technology already.
TheWaveVR had access to a private
space from which it could demonstrate
its platform in ideal conditions,
supported by the latest immersive
hardware. Support was also on hand
from Digital Catapult staff who
attended each session to ensure a
smooth set up and impactful
demonstration.
Impact
• Broadened access to the UK’s
independent music creators
• Allowed a broad range of creative
industry partners to understand the
potential for VR
• Demonstrated its platform to
prominent labels and artists,
including Ninja Tune, Sony Music,
and Imogen Heap
“Digital Catapult enables us to test and demo our platform live
from the UK, making an immediate impact on the artists and
labels we work with in the country. Often they're experiencing
the power of VR for the first time.”
Adam Arrigo, CEO, TheWaveVR
