SOUTHSIDE MARKET & BBQ
534 Highway 71 West
Bastrop, Texas
Project amount: 2 Million Dollars
Time Frame: May 2014-September 2014
When historic Southside Market & Barbeque of Elgin TX wanted to build their first new, ground up restaurant fa-
cility in neighboring Bastrop, they came to JKC for project planning and construction services. The design goals
for the 10,000 SF facility included trying to make the new construction look like it had been built many years ago,
and had been added on to and modified repeatedly. Oh, yes, and we need the place to be open and serving BBQ
within five months of being a grassy field! Coordination of trades, scheduling of hand crafted multi-ton barbeque
cooking ovens, and orchestration of varied finishing and detail trades required very long workdays. Hand crafted
steel entry doors and casement windows were installed beside load bearing structural glazed tile. Weathered burn
wood from a recent forest fire was reclaimed into interior wall finishes, and a local species of Eastern Red Cedar
was used for beams, rafter tails and furniture. With a concerted effort from the Owner, design and construction
team, an incredibly successful product was completed on time and on budget.

RABB HOUSE
151 North A.W. Grimes Blvd
Round Rock, Texas
Project amount: 2.5 Million Dollars
Time Frame: July 2013-May 2014
This redevelopment project included a complete rebuild of the
original facility and outdoor areas directly adjacent to the home.
Giving homage to the scale, aesthetics and character of the original Rabb House, the new 3,700-sf facility pro-
vides an updated layout and design that marries history with modern convenience.
Folding doors opening the entire back of the facility to views of Brushy Creek provide flexible entertainment op-
tions and connect directly to the outdoor amphitheater. Patios and balcony areas surround the remainder of the
building.
Inside, the facility showcases all the amenities you expect to see in a modern rental facility – warm wood-like vinyl
materials, exposed trusses with detailed connections adorn the ceiling; an expansive serving kitchen, public re-
strooms, as well as a separate private restroom and dressing area provide comfort and convenience and high-end
finishes shine throughout the space.
The primary construction materials used included luxury vinyl planks, exposed vaulted wood planked ceiling and
wood trusses, mill finish tri-folding glass doors, exterior and painted drywall, hardie siding, native limestone, locally
milled eastern red cedar, CIP walls and columns, structural steel supporting elevated first floor and wood frame
and trusses. Extensive hardscape and landscape sprawled over several acres. The rear of the project was placed
on the bank of Brushy Creek within the flood plane, tying the amphitheater below waters edge.
