3. The DPS on the previous slide focusses on the set in which the Doctor Who series is films, mainly
highlighting the happening which take place behind the scenes.
Key questions:
How big are the advertisements?
The advertisements on a DPS are shown to the public for the same reason as to why they
are advertised in the newspapers taking the forms of articles. However, you usually find
size wise that in DPS’s the advertisements portrayed are on a larger scale across the course
of two pages and outstanding in the magazine.
Colour?
The use of colour is highly affective on viewers of the magazine. Not only are magazines
typically colourful, the use of colour in many reading materials are crucially considered for
they are pull factors to audiences.
Layout?
The layout is of course considered in the early stages of the creating the DPS, however the
point of a DPS is that it essentially needs to be across the length of two pages. That is the
crucial beginning, once that is succeeded layouts can differ. For instance, where are the
images going to be laid? Along with the text? ETC…

4. The type of language being used?
The magazine language differs massively to newspaper adverts, for example, magazines
will focus on involving snappy headlines and intrigue viewers with affective use of English
language. Much like this magazine, having the headline in large text across the centre of
the page therefore cannot be missed. This is to try and influence viewers top read on. The
new paper articles approach with a similar method with large headlines however, the
newspaper ads I found during my research are more to the point and not keeping the
viewers wanting more.
The space used?
How is the space used effectively in the magazine double page spread, usually much like
this DPS, there are more images than text. I found that the images of the
film/documentary gives out more information. Also, it compliments the txt that is there.
The type of headlines?
The headlines are eye catching not just due to size, such as the DPS’s headline in the
middle of this page ‘New Who!’. The type of headlines are interesting for it allows the
audience to think deeply in what it is implying so therefore makes the viewer want to read
on.
5. What do they say about the topic?
The main topic in this DPS is what occurs behind the scenes, however the headline
refers to a new doctor. ‘New Who!’ implies that there is a new actor in the
programme staring tehe role as the doctor. The headline is snappy and leaves the
audience wondering unless they read on further. The topic is the developed in
more detail.
