3. How big are the advertisements?
The advertisement of this documentary template stands out in size, usually the advertisements
has a specific headline allowing the viewers to instantly recognise what the ad is about. This ad is
a perfect example of that.
Colour?
The colour usually follows a scheme to compliment the rest of the newspaper articles. Therefore
in this ad, it is clear to see of plain shades of black and white throughout. Black on a blank
background is typically the most stand out option possible to be used.
Layouts?
Every newspaper advertisement can be inserted in the newspapers differently. For example,
most of the spreads that I came across had one or two common layouts.Taking a portrait
approach, the newspaper is upright and shows in a simple form two clear pages of information
and images on the ad being shown. This layout also shows a strong margin on the left hand side
of the page, this is intentionally put in place so that it grants any viewers an easy read. Knowing
where to begin reading and allowing a continuous flow down the page.
4. The type of language used?
The type of language used in the newspaper articles depend on the target audiences. For example, the
target audience varies from a teenager to any adults. This means that the language in place is simple
enough to understand however takes a formal approach when summarising what the documentary
consists of.
The space used?
The amount of space available in the newspaper articles depends entirely on the layout. The layout in
which I have researched into thoroughly is the landscape structure, because this layout is used mainly for
my genre of documentary. I found during my research that when the space is not filled by the information
necessary about the documentary, there exists of a fair amount of images to compliment the text. Like
the ad I have looked at for inspiration, this has proven to me that images are just as vital in a newspaper
article as well as the text.Too much text can put many audience members off reading about the
documentary. The images involved provides that extra interest in most people therefore are keener to
read into the documentary.
What type of headlines are there?
The headlines are naturally large so that they stand out amongst any other elements included in the
article. This is crucial for it is what the viewers look to read first and if they cannot identify the where
abouts of the headline, this plays as a push factor. The positioning of the headline secondly requires
consideration. Where is the headline? Does it attractively stand out above the rest of the article perhaps
across the top of the page? Or does the headline blend in the text? On this ad the headline does stand out
amongst the rest of the text at the top of the page playing a more important role.
5. What do they say about the topic?
The text in any newspaper advertisement should purely be a summary of what the
documentary is all about. What does the producers explore when creating the documentary
and how they have found out lots of new and interesting facts. Besides that, the text concludes
of mainly exciting vocabulary to interest the viewers of the article. This persuades them to read
on further with a positive feeling and potentially watch the documentary. This layout obviously
presents the space to include a great amount of text.
