Analysis of ‘Game’
ALI BOMAYE
Forms and conventions
 The music video was released on the 2nd of July
 The track was produced by Black Metaphor
 The track can be identified as rap
 The video is a performance/concept
 A series of birds eye view shots of a futuristic city are used as
establishing shots. The editing technique of a fast repetitive dissolve
is used while the rapper is rapping towards the camera. The rappers
also have a futuristic city edited into the background of their video.
 These techniques usually adhere to the typical conventions of a rap
video.
representation
 The artists are portrayed as rich/wealthy people that show off their
flashy cars and jewellery, for this reason they are constantly stopped
by the police.
 All of the music video is performance with a few establishing shots to
set the scene, the artists are simply rapping into the camera which is
what makes this a generic rap video. Rap artists like to show off their
personal belongings that they have achieved through music which
is why a lot of their videos are usually quite similar.
Institutions
 The game is signed and used to be signed to:
 G unit records
 Universal music group
 Geffen records
 Star trak records
 DGC records
 Get low records
 The black wall street records
 Aftermath entertainment
 The artist is currently signed to interscope
Institutions
 Whilst it is hard to find exactly how much the video cost, I would say
that a lot of money has gone into the props and the occasional
shot. This is a mainstream ‘rap’ song from three well known artists,
the label obviously want to promote the song and have included
expensive cars (potentially already owned), elaborate sets
(expensive buildings/backdrops) helicopter shots of A CITY as well as
heavily investing in CGI.
 The video was released onto youTube on the 2nd of July 2013.
Information on what music channels played the song on release is
hard to find, but the music video was released onto some websites
such as; hiphoplead.com, vimeo.com and metacafe.com.
Audiences
 The target audience for this video would simply be people that
follow generic rap music and appreciate the artists lyrics, I say this
because the music video is all performance. The lyrics are mainly
about women and the artists possessions such as cars which was
shown in the video.
 Audiences would watch this music video because it includes a lot of
artists that are not featured on the song. The artist put other artists in
his music video to attract new audiences.
