How can we plan a piece of
descriptive writing?
C – I can plan descriptions based on my 5 senses
A - I can plan descriptions of my feelings.
E – I can plan sentences with figurative language.
figurative language: descriptive language such as similes,
metaphors and personification.
2. Imagine you are going on the London Eye.
You are going to write a plan for a piece of descriptive
writing. You need to imagine you are on the London
Eye, describing your experience. Write your plan in
bullet points using your work from Monday to help you.
It is up to you what time of day or what weather you
want to describe. A word document version of the plan
is on the English tab.
3. Paragraph 1 – In this paragraph you need to describe getting on to the
London Eye
• What could you see/touch/hear/smell/taste?
• How did you feel getting on the London Eye?
• Was there anyone else on your pod?
4. Paragraph 2 – the pod begins to rise
• What could you see/touch/hear/smell/taste? – Refer back to
your descriptive work from Monday.
• How did you feel as you got higher and higher?
5. Paragraph 3 – the pod gets lower
• What could you see/touch/hear/smell/taste? – Refer back to
your descriptive work from Monday.
• How did you feel as you got closer to the end?
6. Paragraph 4 – returning to the ground
• What could you see/touch/hear/smell/taste? – Refer
back to your descriptive work from Monday.
• How did you feel at the end of the ride?
