4. INTRODUCTION
04
Power supply is the basic needs of any
electronics that we use regularly.
It is a source supply to a circuit as it’s
expected voltage and current rating.
It may be a charger for storing dc current
or continuous supply for any electronics.
It may be single output supply or multiple
output supply.
5. TYPES OF POWER SUPPLY
05
1. AC POWER SUPPLY - Used directly
from the AC Source.
2. DC POWER SUPPLY - Used directly
from the DC Source like Battery.
6. OBJECTIVE
06
Take a basic idea about power supply circuits.
Know about cellphone charger & it’s working
method.
Learn about a laptop charger & it’s working
method.
Learn about linear dc power supply and it’s
circuits.
7. 07
We use power supply system in everyday life. Actually
we converts the power from AC supply to DC supply
that means from higher AC voltage to lower DC voltage
as usual. TV, freeze, computer, micro-oven, washing
machine has power supply circuits. Different Types of
charger is nothing but a power supply circuit.

Cell Phone Charger
Basically, it converts 220/110V
AC to 5V constant DC current.
As we know a transformer and a
rectifier can convert ac to dc but
here the ac current is not directly
pass through the transformer.
AC 220V is rectified to 311V DC
from RMS to p-p voltage by
multiplying root 2.
13. 13
DC POWER SUPPLY
The power supply from dc source or battery.
Conversion of DC to DC
Step down variable DC to DC circuit
Mobile charger circuit from a solar cell battery
14. 14
Constant DC to DC Step Down
Converter
Fixed valued DC-DC converter
(5V, 6V,8V,9V,10V,12V,15V,18V,24V)
15. 15
Linear DC Power Supply
• Variable DC Power Supply that can vary the output
voltage.

18. SUMMARY
Every power supply must obtain the energy it supplies to its
load, as well as any energy it consumes while performing
that task, from an energy source. Depending on its design, a
power supply may obtain energy from various types of
energy sources, including electrical energy transmission
systems, energy storage devices such as a batteries and fuel
cells, electromechanical systems such as generators and
alternators, solar power converters, or another power
supply.
