#ICOScapes - Communicating climate science to non-scientific audience through social media

ICOScapes is a project that hired a photographer to visit 12 climate monitoring stations in 12 countries to produce images, stories and videos about climate science field work to share on social media. The project grew ICOS's Instagram followers from 500 to over 3,000 and its posts received thousands of likes and views, helping communicate climate science to non-scientific audiences. An exhibition of the photos is touring countries in 2018-2019 and ICOS will continue using social media to share the content.

Editor's Notes
- Communicating climate science is not aways easy – complicated studies, long-term projects and the results are often relative.
- Raise awareness on Climate change. And on ICOS. Among a wider audience.
- Hi Stations selected by the countries, often together with my predecessor.
- Mari learnt to use a videocamera. Others gave tips, also Konsta. Interviewed the scientists to the videos: Always kept the climate change message in focus, but also tried to add a personal note – to make it more human, catching.
- Mention university pages, their somechannels and work to get it through to local national media.
- Today’s world is visual.
