On National Teacher Day, meet the 2024-25 Kenan Fellows
Genre Research
1.
2. Some of the leading influences of our short film
include programmes ‘My Mad Fat Diary’, ‘Skins’ and
‘Waterloo Road’
These programmes all come under the genre of teen
drama, where there is a major focus on young adult
characters alongside a dramatic and realistic plot
Teen dramas came into prominence in the early
1990s, in particularly alongside the popularity of the
Fox series ‘Beverly Hills’
Our film touches on the teen drama genre as it is
focusing on teenage girls and everyday life as a
teenage girl, including relationships, mental health,
friendship and the role of the media
This also links with our target audience as we want
our short film to appeal to young women
3. A film that is true to life accurately
represents real events or themes
Examples of true to life films include The
Invisible Woman and Lovelace
Because our short film etches upon themes
such as mental health awareness and
relationships inspired from a combination of
stories from us personally, we feel that our
short film fits in with this genre closely
4. The script of our short film is a poem written
by Anna Kennedy, and the words of the poem
reflect the images that will be shown on the
screen as a montage
Although our short film has elements of teen
drama within it, the only spoken word is the
poetry read out over the top. Therefore our
short film also fits into the prose and poetry
genre as it is spoken dialogue in the form of
poetry
