Door Handle Design
Process Document
Hilary Leehane
After the brief I went straight to my mood
board. I found that photos of products from
the 50’s - 70’s were intriguing and offered
elements that I felt compelled to work into
my designs. The main feature that ended up
standing out in my designs were the parallel
lines that ran through many objects of these
eras.

Reflection:
At the beginning of this project, it seemed like an easy one to do. What’s so hard about
making a handle? We soon realized how challenging it actually was. The brief outlined that
it had to be for the company COLOMBO. We did our preliminary research to make sure we
knew what our client was looking for. The process work that went into this handle
assignment was incredibly time consuming, however well worth the time spent. Each one of
us discovering why it is so important to make models along the way and push our
designs even further. Many of us found ourselves having to pull back because of
overdesigning, this was a huge learning curve and one I will take into the future.
This handle project allowed me to really experience and push my designing/modelling
capabilities as well as a chance to work with my peers on constructive criticism. We have a
great group of students working together, helping one another along the way.
