Height and thickness of parts can be
measured using the caliper’s step
measuring face. Note that high
precision measurement is only
possible when the edge has no radius,
as is the case when measuring a part’s
outer dimensions or if there’s an
undercut or relief groove in the edge
(e.g. screws).
把卡尺的台阶测量高度和厚度。
只有没圆角的角落才可以提高精度
检测,比如在台子上面的零件外尺
寸或则螺杆的长度。

The diameter or thickness of slender parts
should be measured with the part’s axis
tilted, so the line of contact with the
measuring jaws is a long as possible, thus
averaging out the object’s short wave
irregularities.
长细零件的直径必须测量斜轴线的,令
接触的线面提到最大。这样就能让短波
的形状误差更均匀。

Hole depth measurement can be
performed with the depth probe. Tightly
contacting the hole’s wall, the sharp edge
of the probe’s end should stop at the line
between the hole’s cylindrical section and
the cone-shaped end. To obtain the hole’s
approximate overall depth, add the bore’s
radius divided by the tangent of half its
point angle (TPA).
e.g. 2.5mm/tan(59°)=1.5mm for a
standard 5mm drill.
孔深度测量的时候最好使用卡尺的深度
测量杆。紧贴洞壁。杆的角应处于柱体
和椎体的边缘上。孔的全深度是:
深度读数 + 孔半径 / tan(刀尖角/2) ,
例如对于正常5mm 的钻头:
深度读数 + 2.5mm/tan(59°)。

measure a soft elastic part’s
diameter: hold the part firmly
between the measuring jaws
and gradually open until force
closure breakaway. The jaw
distance at which the part
starts to drop is the
approximate dimension.
最后我要建议测量弹性零件
直径的办法。先用测量面把
试验对象夹住,再渐渐开口
到对象掉落为止。开口停止
的距离就是零件大约的尺寸。
