This document discusses the use of DuPont Typar geotextiles for road drainage systems. Typar is a nonwoven geotextile made of thermally bonded polypropylene filaments that functions as a filter, allowing water to drain through while retaining soil particles. It is used in road drainage projects to separate soils from aggregate stones in order to prevent clogging. Examples of projects using Typar geotextiles in Pakistan and other countries are provided.

8. DuPont Typar Geotextile Material
DuPont Typar is a nonwoven geotextile fabric
composed of thermally bonded continuous
polypropylene filaments. The fibre extrusion
process produces thousands of superfine
continuous filaments, which pass through a
DuPont patented โpre-stretchโ stage. The
superfine tough filaments are directionally
oriented producing a fibre web sheet that is
then thermally and mechanically bonded.

โข Failure of a drainage system is caused by the intermixing
of the free-draining aggregate materials with the
subgrade soil, which leads to clogging of the aggregate.
โข TYPAR Geotextiles separate soil from the filter aggregate
stone, which minimizes intermixing, helping to maintain
the integrity of the drain.

tear resistance, opening size and hydraulic properties
