Harley Pratt is pursuing nursing and identifies qualities needed for short and long-term goals. They enjoyed a personality test that identified them as a yellow personality type and a visual learner. Favorite assignments included journal entries that helped them reflect on problems, goals, and how to improve support systems. The service learning project where they helped elderly residents had a strong impact by showing how a few hours can greatly help others. They reflect on personal growth in taking responsibility and overcoming self-doubt to achieve their dream of becoming a nurse.

HARLEY'S NURSING JOURNEY
1. HARLEY PRATT
NURSING
The qualities that I will need to accomplish my short-
term goals are persistent, focused, and hard-
working. My long-term goals I will need to have the
qualities of optimistic, strong-willed, and caring.
2. One of my favorite class assignments was the one that showed if you was a left
brain, no clear preference, or right brain thinker. How its done is by many questions
that you answer and get those numbers subtract 66 from the first number then add
22. If your score is lower then your left brain if the score is high then your right brain I
was in the middle of both left and right brain.
The personality test was fun to do in class. We had many words or phrases that we
think that described us that we choose from. After we got done with choosing all
the words or phrases we were either red, yellow, blue, or green, my highest score
was yellow.
How do I learn assignment was to see what type of learning style I was.We had a
check list to go though and checked of which style we do best. It turns out that from
this assignment I'm a visual learner like I thought I was.
3. Chapter 2 Journal entry 7 was a great journal entry because we got to talk about a
recent problem we had.We got to talk about what are inner guide, inner critic, and
inner defender would say. Then after we said what we have learnd about are selfs.
Chapter 3 journal entry 10 was another one of my favorites because in the activity we
got to visualize and accomplishment of one of are goals. We got to image what are
biggest goal is and how we can make it not just a image but a reality.
Chapter 5 journal entry 16 showed us many different sentences that we had to dig
deep and complete them. I really don’t think about some of those sentences until
after I did it. We also got to write a couple of sentences about how we could have a
better support network in college.
4. The module that l liked the most was the Service Learning
Project. This project had us going out and helping the
community. For this project I went to an assisted living and I
helped with the elderly. With this project I saw how just four
hours of my time could make someone's day.
5. The Service Learning Project will stay with me because sometimes going
out of your way for someone might not mean a lot for you but will to the
other person.
Discussion 4: My Life in 10Years had me thinking about my goals in life. I
really never thought what my life would be like in 10 years and it will be
with me when I feel like not doing my school work.
Chapter 5 Journal Entry 16 I talked about this in my other slide but it will
be one that I will remember. The reason why I will remember it is because
it had me thinking about situations that I never really had to think much
about.
6. 1. Accepting personal responsibility score of 41 to 43
2. Discovering self-motivation score of 49 to 45
3. Mastering self-management score of 39 to 40
4. Employing interdependence score of 43 to 47
5. Gaining self-awareness score of 48 to 48
6. Adopting lifelong learning score of 48 to 50
7. Developing emotional intelligence score of 27 to 30
8. Believing in myself score of 34 to 40
Before college I didn’t really have any responsibility's
like I do now in college. Sometimes now that I have all
of these responsibility's I feel overwhelmed at some
points, but I know that it will only get harder from here.
My personal responsibility now is to stay in college and
continue with my studies.
7. Letter to the Next Class
In life it’s not easy to get what you want it takes dedication and time.
Before going to college I didn’t want to take the time to do anything I just
wanted it put in my lap. After I realize how that was never going to work I started
to think what I could do not just for me but for others. Nursing is something that
could not just help me but could help others. Since I decided to go into nursing I
have been studying and working harder in school to make that dream a reality.
I thought college was either someone goes to college for two years or
four years and nothing in-between now I know that college is at your own pace.
Another thing I have learned is that I’m my own worst enemy, I do things that
harm my chances of being a nurse like waiting to the last minute to turn
something in, not wanting to do work, and wanting to stop the nursing program
because it will be too hard. I’ve learned that when I quit something I quit just
before it’s over and I will not do it this time.
How I would describe this class is its easy you show up and do the work
and you will pass this class with no problem, but if you think you can skip a
couple of assignments your wrong because that’s when your grades start to slip.
In the class you will learn it’s not always about numbers or grades in life it’s also
about being happy. Sometimes in life we are not happy this class will not show u
how to be happy, but it will get you pointed in the right direction.
8. If I accomplished all of my goals that I have for myself my life
would be looking pretty good. I would have a large piece of
land somewhere, where I can go out and do whatever I want
to.What I would be doing is working in a doctors office or in a
hospital. What I would be is a registered nurse once I get into
that profession I will see if there is another job perfection in
the medical field that I may want.
