“Rear Window”
Period 7
The 1954 thriller “Rear Window” with actor and actresses James Stewart and Grace
Kelly, was an very interesting perspective on neighbors in a city. James Stewart’s character L.B
“Jeff” Jefferies has broken leg and is stuck in a small apartment while in a wheelchair. He
becomes so bored he find himself starting out his windows, observing his neighbors.
Throughout the film, we only get a perspective through Jeff. It shows each neighbor and their
personal problems at home. Suddenly one of his neighbors go missing, a wife of a mysterious
man that vanishes through the night. He becomes suspicious of the husband when a dog of
another neighbor is found dead because it was digging in a recently buried part of his lawn. Jeff
seems to think he’s hiding something in this hole in the yard, maybe a murder weapon used to
end his wife's life.
This movie was confusing at first to me and i think many others as well. It was hard to
pay attention to but once they started accusing the husband of the murder, they investigate
themselves, it starts to become intresting. Jeff’s significant other and a friend take matter into
their own hands to find out what happened to the wife. Lisa, his future wife, sneaks into his
home once he mysteriously disappears into the night once again. Lisa then finds important
evidence that could be used against him and make a case, but the husband returns to find Lisa
there going through his things. He attacks her but police gets to him before anything serious can
go down. What i enjoyed most about the film was the ending where he gets the proof he needs
against the husband he get convicted of the crime and his wife gets the justice that she
deserves.
Overall I enjoyed the film and would definitely watch it again now that i know what it's
about and what it focuses on, a murder. The ironic thing is that it shunned upon to be a “peeping
Tom” but it’s what saved Lisa’s life and got justice for the wife. I maybe not have enjoyed it the
first time around but hopefully I’ll appreciate it more the next time around. The movie could have
used a little more action in the beginning but the ending of the film completely makes up of it.
Sadly, this won't makes my top 20 list but, it was still an enjoyable film.
