Analyze Learners and Teach Puritanism and Salem Witch Trials
1. *We will have a class Facebook page and Twitter account prior to this assignment.
Analyze Learners- The students are in the 7th grade. The students are 11 boys and 9 girls. There are 70%
Caucasian and 30% African American. There are no children with special needs.
Main objective- Students will be knowledgeable in Puritanism and the events of the Salem Witch Trials
by the end of the week with 85% accuracy.
Monday-What is Puritanism?
-Students will go on Blogger and write a blog telling what they already know about Puritanism.
-Once you are finished with the blog make a QR for that blog and post it on their Twitter page so the
students can see everyone’s. They will also be required to hashtag #anstedmiddlesalemwitchtrials
I will go back and retweet all of their QRs so they will readily assessable.
-The students will then make an avatar on Second Life. As the teacher, I will have made a simulation of
Salem, Massachusetts during the 1600’s. They can look around and see what life may have looked like
then.
-Next, they will go to Photoshop. They will edit pictures and create an image of Salem, Massachusetts
and what it would have looked like during the trials.
Tuesday- Overview of the trials
-Have a lesson on the Puritans and Salem Witch Trials. (Play my YouTube videos)
-Today the students will watch a documentary about the Salem Witch Trials on YouTube. It will go more
in-depth than we did the day before. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1-dA4LIqifc
-The students will then make a poster summarizing the events of the trials.
Wednesday- Character profiles
-The students will get on http://zunal.com/webquest.php?w=215840
There I have a lesson completed about the individuals. They will start this lesson and complete it the
next day.
-Finally, the students will make a Voki of one of the people involved in the trials. They will have them
telling the individual’s story. Since they student has no way of knowing the person’s actual thoughts
during the trials many years ago, they will just use their imagination and creativity.
Thursday- Writing
-First, they will finish the directions on the webquest from the day before and present their PowerPoints
to the class.
Friday- The students will create a podcast summarizing what they have learned throughout the week.
Assessing whether or not they have learned the information will go by whether the or not the
information is at least 85% correct.
2. I will have a Drop box link located on our Facebook page. The students will follow that link and submit
their podcasts that way.
