3. Mission
statement
RCE Cuenca del Plata will promote and
advance Sustainability as a multi-stakeholder
platform by bringing together institutions, local
governments, social organizations, academy
and industry across the region to carry out
research and provide support, training and
developing opportunities through ESD as the
means to empower present and future
generations in solving current economic, social
and environmental challenges at the global,
regional and local levels.

1. To develop networking among regional key organizations.
2. To create environmental awareness within communities.
3. To support, design and monitor programs and projects that promote social environmental
awareness, conservation of nature and circular economy.
4. To develop a clear vision of sustainability for the region.
5. To create resources and human capital towards sustainability at local governments in the
region.
6. To strive for excellence in training and supporting regional approaches to sustainability.

7. To provide training to key actors to work towards sustainability challenges in the region.
8. To develop information systems and fair work conditions among institutions.
9. To carry out and coordinate strategic research and combine the results into publications.

6. Multicultural
approach
The RCE Cuenca del Plata embraces the cultural
diversity within its territory. In that sense, the
Regional Centre established from the beginning
the Guaraní and Quechua along with Spanish and
Portuguese as the official languages. English will
also be used as international language specially for
presentations and publications.

● 3 200 000 km² (second largest river basin in the
world after the Amazon basin).
● Basin territory - home to 100 million people.
● Main replenishing system to the Guarani
Aquifer (5th in the World).

9. Territorial development throughout the Cuenca del Plata
The strategy for covering the whole of the
Cuenca del Plata territory includes the
development of several sub-regional offices
within Argentina, Paraguay, Bolivia and
Uruguay.
For those regions within Brazil and beyond,
RCE Cuenca del Plata intends to develop
collaboration agreements, strategies and
common projects with fellow RCEs at Curitiba,
Rio, Sao Paulo, Lima-Callao, and others….

10. Development strategy throughout the Cuenca del Plata
1. Identify potential key partners to foster Sustainable Development at the local and regional levels.
2. Identify key stakeholders with whom implement workshops to identify and map local challenges.
3. Design strategies to identify potential solutions with key stakeholders based on real needs and
opportunities towards the fulfillment of the SDGs.
4. Promote municipal declaration of interest for GAP and SDGs including allocated budget for
implementation of priority actions.
5. Implement, monitor and report initiatives at the local level with partners and stakeholders.

18. 100 million planted native trees by 2030
OBPs (One Big Project) with regional scope
This project aims at unifying visions, efforts and commitments at the basin level
to strengthen the importance of the native forests and native urban trees
as part of a comprehensive biodiversity conservation strategy to tackle climate
change, land degradation and pollution, among other issues and challenges.
