2. CHANGE 2
Change
Introduction
Change concerns reviewing one's approach towards aspects of life, career, or concept. It
carries the unpredictability of the universe by granting positive of negative outcome; however, it
is unavoidable and ultimately overrules known idea to defining them as obsolete. In the context
of Miroslav Holub’s poem “The Door” and Kelly Clarkson’s film clip “Breakaway” the
communications that change is important and may not mean harm are capitalized.
The Door – Miroslav Holub
Statement
Miroslav Holub’s poem affirms that change is a positive move and insists in her closing
remarks persuading the audience to adopt change as such can be refreshing, “At least there’ll be
a draught.”
Technique
The author inspires mystery and exposes possible positive outcomes relating to change.
Uncertainty is projected as an opportunity to appreciate the worth of unfamiliar concepts. The
author uses alliteration to convey the message to the reader. Further, he also integrates
symbolism as a tool to make the reader contemplate on what he might be referring or
communicating. Miroslav narrates his poem in a manner that makes the reader see the mind of a
disturbed protagonist.
Example
3. CHANGE 3
An example of symbolism is the door. In this case, he keeps repeating the first sentence, “Go and
open the door” thus creating the image of symbolism and he wanted the reader to contemplate
much about what the door meant. The example of symbolism is “or an eye, or the picture of a
picture”.
Effect
The author makes sense to the audience by referring to important aspects of life.
Inspirations about socialization, life, feasible solutions, emptiness, and revival are presented.
Mentioning of cities portrays an image of social spaces while gardens and vegetation project a
sense of life. Clearing of fogs implies that change defines its solutions. Darkness and hollow
wind reflect emptiness and boring space.
Link
Refusal to adopt change is self-denial of the benefits associated with the passing of time
as new concepts offer opportunities. For instance, development of new technology allows people
to become more efficient at their tasks; therefore, embracing change offers positive outcome.
Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson
Statement
Clarkson feels that change defines progress. She finds that exploring new ways allows
one to achieve ‘Bodhisattva’; change is the key to optimal success.
Technique
The artist incorporates tools such as flashback whereby she was young, the place she
grew up in and the dreams she had. Further, she uses juxtaposition whereby she compared her

terrible life when she was young and the life she wished to get. Kelly also uses personification to
bring out the implication of how different things seemed to be in her dreams or wishes.
Example
An example of flashback is “Grew up in a small town, And when the rain would fall down, I'd
just stare out my window, Dreamin' of what could be”. An example that Kelly uses in
juxtaposition is “Out of the darkness and into the sun”. In personification, Kelly uses the
example of “Feel the rush of the ocean”.
Effect
The phrase “make a change and breakaway,” makes sense of precedent statements and
directs the audience towards embracing change as a tool for liberation. “Out of the darkness and
into the sun,” this statement affirms that change propels an individual towards a better place.
Link
Change directs an individual towards positive future by offering an opportunity for a
fresh start; if they are willing to take chances in unpredictable environments. Your start point
does not depict your destiny.
Conclusion
Change entails moving away from the obvious and daring to explore radical dreams. The
works of Kelly Clarkson and Miroslav Holub communicate about benefits of embracing change.
They expose the depth of opportunities that tend to masquerade as risks but demand a
commitment to a course. One needs to pursue change objectives until he or she realizes positive
results and avoid losing track when predicaments seem less appealing.
