1. QUESTION 1- IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS
AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?
2. EDITING
• Our teaser trailer follows the conventions of previous teaser trailers of the same genre by
having similar editing techniques. We used the montage editing style as well as similar
transitions between shots. The shots cut quite quickly and abruptly, all the shots are also
quite brief, like other action thriller teaser trailers that have a fast pace.
• Teaser trailers of this genre also move from different settings and scenes in the film
quickly and almost at random, so they may not actually follow the chronological order of
the film and almost seem to jump around. This is therefore what we aimed to achieve in
our trailer and we think we did this quite successfully.
• We also found out during the research stages that most teaser trailers are between 30-90
seconds long, so we made ours around a minute long to make it as similar to previous
teaser trailers as possible.
• Finally, we used colour corrector in final cut to adjust the
colours, to give each shot a more dark and sinister look.
3. SOUND
• However, we did find that some other teaser trailers contain more dialog and diegetic
sound than our teaser trailer, but we think that the music in our trailer works well with the
shots that appear because as the they change at the beginning, more layers of the music
begin and then later on in the tunnel scene, loud banging is included as the shot jumps.
• During filming one of our group members lost her voice, so we couldn’t involve too much
dialog, as she just couldn’t talk. To improve it we could have perhaps added in more
dialog to make the conventions more similar to other teaser trailers of the same genre.
4. COMPARISONS OF CONVENTIONS
• We looked at the teaser trailer for 4.3.2.1 and compared it to our teaser
trailer as they are similar and are of almost the same genre. They were
filmed in a similar way, in the way that the shots cut away quite abruptly.
• This trailer also followed the same conventions and as you can see, had
similar shots like these two young girls running away from someone that
seems to be a serious threat.
5. THE POSTER AND MAGAZINE COVER
• For our poster and magazine cover we attempted to stick to the conventions our real
posters and magazine covers as much as possible. For the magazine cover we used
an image that was similar to the ones used in the real ‘Empire’ magazine.
• We also used colours and textures that are similar to magazine covers featuring films
of the same genre as ours. In both magazine covers and posters of the same genre
as ours we found that they quite often use close-up images of the characters, so we
tried to follow this wherever possible.
