PDHPE Rationale

2. • PDHPE is important for young developing
minds because the NSW PDHPE syllabus
Board of Studies (2006) states that PDHPE
encourages valuing of the self and others. It
also promotes positive interpersonal
relationships and encourages friendships. It is
also vital for learning about the body, self,
personal changes, diversity, families and
sexual education.

3. • PDHPE is also important for developing not only
relationships, but learning how to make good
personal health and safe choices. NSW Syllabus
for PDHPE Board of Studies (2006) states that
“an understanding of health issues empowers
students to make appropriate decisions and
commit to adopting sound community values” (p.
7). Students are more likely to make better life
choices when exposed to an effective PDHPE
strong education.

4. • Not only is PDHPE vital for introducing young
students to making good life choices, it also
promotes physical activity in the Physical
Education aspect. The NSW Syllabus for
PDHPE Board of Studies (2006) agrees that
juvenile inactivity and lack of physical
knowledge is detrimental to young bodies.
Arguably some young children only learn
kinaesthetically, therefore PDHPE is important
in schooling.
