The handbrake is an important part of an automobile which is known as latching brake It is mostly used while parking, thus also called as parking brake.
handbrake is sometimes also used to prevent a vehicle from rolling when the operator needs both feet to operate the clutch and throttle pedals.
In automobiles e-brakes usually consist of a cable directly connected to a brake mechanism on one end and to some type of mechanism that can be actuated by the driver on the other end.
the mechanisms is often a hand–operated lever, on the floor on either side of the driver.

2. INTRODUCTION
• The handbrake is an important part of an automobile which is known as latching brake It is mostly used
while parking, thus also called as parking brake.
• handbrake is sometimes also used to prevent a vehicle from rolling when the operator needs both feet to
operate the clutch and throttle pedals.
• In automobiles e-brakes usually consist of a cable directly connected to a brake mechanism on one end
and to some type of mechanism that can be actuated by the driver on the other end.
• the mechanisms is often a hand–operated lever, on the floor on either side of the driver.
• a pull handle located below and near the steering wheel column, or a pedal.
3. NEED FOR AUTOMATIC HANDBRAKE
• In modern automotive world where safety is of top priority, automatic handbrake plays
an important role in an automobile.
• Driver error is common. The driver might forget to engage hand brake when the
vehicle is in rest.
• It may move because the gears engaged cannot alone hold the vehicle. So automatic
hand brake engages when the vehicle is in rest or ignition is off, and in another
condition where in uphill due to amateur driving if the vehicle turns off because of
driver fault the vehicle moves backwards.
• If automatic hand brake is employed as soon as the vehicle turns off the hand brake
engages and the vehicle does not move backwards and it guides to finish uphill.
4. OBJECTIVE
• To develop a automatic system which engages and disengages handbrake in an
automobile.
• To develop a safety system which is affordable to common man.
• To develop a system that is based on modern day scientific principle.
• To develop System which is capable of engaging handbrake in different driving
errors to avoid accidents and crashes.
7. COMPONENTS USED
• Hand brake lever.
• Solenoid valve.
• Arduino Uno board.
• Silencer with needle control.
• Bread board.
• Copper spare coil 24v ac.
• Plywood 24*40 inch.
8. WORKING
1. At the initial condition take the vehicle at rest, and hand brake is engaged state.
Both clutch pedal and the ignition switch are off. In running condition, the handbrake
is initially disengaged and if the engine gets off (due to armature driving), the
handbrake automatically engages. This helps preventing the rolling down of the
vehicle on slopes.
9. 2. Say only the clutch pedal is applied, and the ignition is off. The handbrake remains
engaged as the engine is off and the driver doesn't want to move the vehicle.
10. 3. If only the ignition switch is turned on, the handbrake remains engaged, as
this can be due to negligence of the driver, or if suppose a kid on board applies the
ignition switch in the absence of the driver.
11. 4. When both the ignition and clutch is engaged, the handbrake is disengaged. After the
clutch is released the handbrake remains disengaged. This is the normal driving condition.
13. CONCLUSION
Actual working conditions are met. And the prototype is tested as for real world conditions. As name
indicates this system is completely automatic. Pneumatic system makes the system more cost effective
and system becomes very simple
ADVANTAGES
• The time required for actuation is less.
• Design is simple.
• The hill hold function, it engages hand brake if the vehicle turns off due to driver error during uphill and
prevent roll back.
• This system can be used in cars and air brake employed trucks.
• It provides sufficient force to hold a car on a 45-degree angled uphill.
