PROJECT BACKGROUND
Amna Bint Wahab Independent Secondary School in Qatar
participated in a virtual exchange program hosted by
Global Nomads Group. As part of the program, our
school collaborated with Trinity School in New York (USA)
to develop solutions to the challenges our communities
face.
We decided to address the problem of the plastic bottle
and paper wastes in our school
To do this, we created a campaign to aware our school
students and staff about this environmental issue in our
community.

LESS WASTE IN OUR
COMMUNITY
 Throughout the program, students
noticed that one of the main issues
in our school is the large waste of
plastic bottles and papers. And since
most of these do not go for
recycling, they end up causing harm
to our environment and health.
 Through this project, we hope that
people in our community will have a
real feel and sense of this issue and
will take their responsibility toward
the environment locally and
internationally.
 The problem will be address through
several activities that involves those
PROCESS
Through group discussion we came
up with 4 different topics for our
project and by voting with decided
to combine two topics at the same
time which were the plastic bottle
waste and paper waste.
• We to go for a campaign since we
thought it is the best way to
reach to a large audience in short
period of time and we can involve
the whole school also. We
decided to introduce ourselves
and the aim of our project to the
targeted audience through
morning assembly which is
attended by all school students
and staff.
PROCESS
We also reached out to the school
staff in order to introduce the “ less
paper waste” campaign in which a
group of students prepare waste
bins for each department to collect
daily paper waste for each
department.
The idea of this step was to let the
teachers see what amount of paper
they are wasting that can be reused
for other purposes like drafts or
printing on the other side.
Our partner students supported
our ideas and they like the water
bottles campaign and they decided
to do something similar in their
school.
CHALLENGES
Some of the challenges we faced in our project is
finding some time to meet and organize for the
project and the campaign since we all come from 5
different classes with 5 different schedules.
However, we over come this problem by meeting
during the break we have to had our breakfast and
we used to meet at Ms.Neima office to plan and
discuss.
FINAL PROJECT
After we finished the project, we
combined all our work intro a Video and
we share it through YouTube.

FINAL REFLECTIONS
We hope to continue
the work of
advocating for
environment issues in
our school through
similar campaigns like
saving electricity or
less rubbing papers in
our school cafeteria.
 The students
understand the
reasons that made us
choose and work in
this project.
 The school
administration
approved and
supported our
campaign that
targeted teachers in
reducing paper
waste.

Less Waste: Awarrance Campaign in our Community - Amna Bint Wahab Independent Secondary Schools for Girls

  • 1. LESS WASTE IN OUR COMMUNITY Amna Bint Wahab Independent Secondary School for Girl/ Qatar In collaboration with Trinity School NY/ USA Global Citizenship Project
  • 2. PROJECT BACKGROUND Amna Bint Wahab Independent Secondary School in Qatar participated in a virtual exchange program hosted by Global Nomads Group. As part of the program, our school collaborated with Trinity School in New York (USA) to develop solutions to the challenges our communities face. We decided to address the problem of the plastic bottle and paper wastes in our school To do this, we created a campaign to aware our school students and staff about this environmental issue in our community.   • 3. LESS WASTE IN OUR COMMUNITY  Throughout the program, students noticed that one of the main issues in our school is the large waste of plastic bottles and papers. And since most of these do not go for recycling, they end up causing harm to our environment and health.  Through this project, we hope that people in our community will have a real feel and sense of this issue and will take their responsibility toward the environment locally and internationally.  The problem will be address through several activities that involves those
  • 4. PROCESS Through group discussion we came up with 4 different topics for our project and by voting with decided to combine two topics at the same time which were the plastic bottle waste and paper waste. • We to go for a campaign since we thought it is the best way to reach to a large audience in short period of time and we can involve the whole school also. We decided to introduce ourselves and the aim of our project to the targeted audience through morning assembly which is attended by all school students and staff.
  • 5. PROCESS We also reached out to the school staff in order to introduce the “ less paper waste” campaign in which a group of students prepare waste bins for each department to collect daily paper waste for each department. The idea of this step was to let the teachers see what amount of paper they are wasting that can be reused for other purposes like drafts or printing on the other side. Our partner students supported our ideas and they like the water bottles campaign and they decided to do something similar in their school.
  • 6. CHALLENGES Some of the challenges we faced in our project is finding some time to meet and organize for the project and the campaign since we all come from 5 different classes with 5 different schedules. However, we over come this problem by meeting during the break we have to had our breakfast and we used to meet at Ms.Neima office to plan and discuss.
  • 7. FINAL PROJECT After we finished the project, we combined all our work intro a Video and we share it through YouTube. Global Citizenship Project- Amna Bint Wahab School

FINAL REFLECTIONS We hope to continue the work of advocating for environment issues in our school through similar campaigns like saving electricity or less rubbing papers in our school cafeteria.  The students understand the reasons that made us choose and work in this project.  The school administration approved and supported our campaign that targeted teachers in reducing paper waste.
