1. The AD 70 Doctrine
Realized Eschatology

2. Definitions
• Realized Eschatology
– Eschatology, from two Greek words meaning "last"
(ἔσχατος) and "study" (-λογία), is the study of 'end
things'
– Eschatology = study of last things
• Last things
– Second Coming of Jesus
– Resurrection
– Day of Judgment
– Realized = has happened
• Not future any more
• It all happened in AD 70
Terry W. Benton
3. The AD 70 Doctrine
• Is not:
– Believing the destruction of Jerusalem is a key
event
– Believing that certain books were written before
AD 70 and find fulfillment in AD 70
• IS:
– Believing all “last things” occurred in AD 70
– Believing the final coming, resurrection, and final
judgment all happened in AD 70
Terry W. Benton
4. Not a New Deception
• Hymenaeus and Philetus also said "the
resurrection is past already" (2 Tim. 2:16-18)
• But,
– This was before the destruction of Jerusalem in AD
70
– The destruction of Jerusalem was a “coming” of the
Lord
– The destruction of Jerusalem was a “judgment” day
• Thus, a newer basis for deception

5. Modern Example
• Max King's “The Spirit of Prophecy:”
– "There is no scriptural basis for extending the
second coming of Christ beyond the fall of
Judaism." - p. 105
– "...the end of the Jewish world was the second
coming of Christ." - p. 81 (emp., King's)

6. Realized Eschatology
Max King: “The Holy Scriptures teach
the second coming of Christ, including
the establishment of the eternal kingdom,
the day of judgment, the end of the
world, and the resurrection of the dead,
occurred with the fall of Judaism in 70
A.D.” (The Nichols-King Debate, 1)

7. A Coming That
Doesn’t Fit AD 70
Coming to judge all nations (Mt. 25:31-33)
Coming like Jesus’ ascension (Acts 1:9-11)
Coming that is personal, audible, and visible
(1 Th. 4:13-18)
Coming to punish the ungodly (Jude 14-15; 2
Pet. 3:7; Jn. 12:48; 2 Th. 1:7-10)
Coming to destroy the heavens and the earth
(2 Pet. 3:3-13)

8. A Resurrection That
Doesn’t Fit AD 70
Resurrection of all in tombs (Jn. 5:28-29)
Resurrection of righteous on last day (Jn.
6:39-40, 44, 54; 11:24)
Resurrection that ends marriage & death (Mt.
22:23-33; Mk. 12:18-27; Lk. 20:27-40)
Resurrection Paul preached in Athens (Acts
17:18, 32)
Resurrection of just & unjust (Acts 24:15)

9. If The “END” Happened in
AD 70
The kingdom has been “delivered up” to
the Father – 1 Cor.15:24
Jesus is not reigning anymore –v.25
There is no more death –v.26
All have been raised incorruptible
Sin and death have ended v.26,54-56
The gospel cannot save anyone
No sin; no need for the cross
