2. Hebrews 11
V. 4 – Even though Abel is dead, he still speaks.
 How? God testifies his gifts
V. 40 – God has provided something better for us, so
that we both may be made perfect together.
Why are we so emotionally attached to these
people?
 14 For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, 15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is
named. (Eph. 3:14-15)

3. The Apostles
The Founding Fathers
 Founded a Physical Nation
 Desired to be remembered
 Created a nation using their own
knowledge
 Created a self-governing republic
 We are apart of this nation. We are
a part of their story.
The Apostles
 Founded a Spiritual Nation
 Desired to please God
 Knowledge given to them by the
Holy Spirit
 Taught a totalitarian government
ruled by an all powerful, righteous,
and perfect king, Jesus the Christ
 We are a part of this Kingdom. We
are a part of their story

4. We are Part of their Story
 John 20:29 - Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have
seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not
seen and yet have believed.”
 Acts 2:39 - “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in
the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you
shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is
to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as
many as the Lord our God will call.”
 Hebrews 12:1- “Therefore we also”

5. FatherAbraham (Rom. 4:16)
 Genesis 17:5 - No longer shall your name be called Abram, but your
name shall be Abraham; for I have made you a father of many
nations.
 Isaiah 51:2 - Look to Abraham your father, And to Sarah who bore you;
For I called him alone, And blessed him and increased him.”
 We are heirs of the promise made to Abraham
 Galatians 3:26-29
 If Abraham is our father then we will do the works of Abraham
 John 8:37-40, 44
 God is not ashamed for Abraham’s family to claim Him
 Hebrews 11:16

6. Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
witnesses… 12:1-2
 let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which so easily ensnares us,
and let us run with endurance the race
that is set before us,
looking unto Jesus
the author and finisher of our faith
