1. The Glory of God
Rom 3:23
For we have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God
Introduction:
As we look at Paul’s treatise to Rome, we find his description of a fall society. In
chapter one Paul speaks to the Gentile world as he describes in minute detail
their rejection of God.
I. Read chapter 1, verses 18-32
In their depraved state, the Gentiles had moved so far away from everything that
was righteous and holy.
But the Jews were to not be left out of this conversation. In chapter two,
addressing “the man” he directly condemns them because they had not been
faithful to God.
II. Read Chapter 2, verses 1-11
III. Then Paul turns his attention to speak to the sinfulness of all men. Read
Chapter 3: 1-26
IV. In the law, sin was revealed. In Christ, the righteousness of God is revealed.
(Gal. 3:19; John 1:17)
V. In the text the comparison of sinfulness is not made man to man, but man
compared to the glory of God! (all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of
God)
How do you measure up compared to God? This is the great question.
A. We all are sinners, period!
B. We fall short (present tense)
C. Of God’s glory

2. VI. We are justified (made just) freely (we have nothing that we can pay) by his
grace (unmerited favor) through the redemption (purchased back)that is in Christ
Jesus whom God sent as a propitiation (mercy seat) by his blood (the means of
redemption) through faith (the vehicle by which we come to Christ).
In Chapter 6, Paul tells us that God works in us through baptism to bury the dead
man (dead in sin) to make that person alive (in Christ). We are risen with him.
We are made alive who were dead in sin (Eph. 2:1)
In the atoning act of Jesus’ crucifixion, Jesus brought to bear on our sins the grace
of God when we come to him in belief and are willing to turn away from sin to
serve the risen Lord as the master of our lives.
Conclusion:
Realize that sin has condemned us all. There is none righteous, no not one
(Romans 3:10)
Realize that in Christ, salvation has been extended by grace through faith (Eph.
2:8)
Realize that God compares us to Himself, not to each other. And in that
comparison we are always going to fall short of the glory of God. And that is why
we need his amazing grace!
