3. THE NEED FOR THIS STUDY
• The church in general is plagued
by this problem.
• Divorces are obtained for any and
every reason, even among
brethren.
• Serious problems arise as we
seek out and make new converts.
• More and more brethren are
teaching strange views.

4. WHAT STANDARD SHALL WE USE?
We Must Reject Unscriptural Standards
• Family Situations
– Family situations do not change what the Bible says (Luke 14:26).
• Emotions
– We must never decide what we believe based on whether or not
we like the consequences (Gen. 22; Ezra 10:10-11, 44).
• Brethren
– Just because brother “so and so” says its true, doesn’t make it
true (1 John 4:1; Matt. 7:13-14).

5. WHAT STANDARD SHALL WE USE?
The Word of God Must Be Our Only Standard
• The standard does not have a shelf life.
– (Jude 3; 1 Pet. 1:22-25).
• If anyone speaks, they must speak according to the standard.
– (1 Pet. 4:11; Col. 3:17; Matt. 7:21-23).
• If one has true faith, he/she will accept the standard.
– (Rom. 5:1-2; 10:17; Heb. 5:9; Rev. 10:9).
• The standard will judge us in the last day.
– (John 12:48; Rev. 20:11-15).
