2. Introduction
1 Corinthians 14:33
For God is not the author of confusion but of peace.
Numbers 23:19
God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent; Has He said, and
will He not do it? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
The flood of nonstop entertainment, news, information, has made it even more difficult for a
Christian to stand firm in the truth of God’s word.
I want to talk about three subjects where society seems to be using this confusion to further the
Devils agenda to separate us from God: Violence, Sexual Immorality, and DishonestyHypocrisy.
3. Violence
In NT times, our own savior was brutally betrayed, beaten, abused, humiliated, and put to a
torturous death on a cross and he was completely innocent. People took stones and threw
them at Stephen until he died from the trauma he received. He was innocent. John the Baptist
was beheaded for preaching the truth.
Where does this behavior come from?
Children born into single-parent families are much more likely than children of intact families to
fall into poverty and welfare dependence themselves in later years. These children, in fact, face a
daunting array of problems.
Scholarly evidence suggests that at the heart of the explosion of crime in America is the loss of
the capacity of fathers and mothers to be responsible in caring for the children they bring into
the world.
4. Fathers
Ephesians 6:4
And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and
admonition of the Lord.
Deuteronomy 6
The Greatest Commandment
2 That you may fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I
command you, you and your son and your grandson, all the days of your life, and that your days
may be prolonged.
5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your
strength.
6“And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
7You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your
house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up
5. Mothers
Titus 2:4,
train the young women to love their husbands and children.
Mothers are reminded to love their children to feel affection for them, to approve of, like, and to
have a kind attitude toward them.
Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.
6. Sexual Immorality
Deuteronomy 22:29
"If a man is found lying with a married woman, then both of them shall die, the man who lay with
the woman, and the woman; thus you shall purge the evil from Israel.”
Romans 1:26-27
For this reason, God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the
natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the
natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men
committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
7. What is Gods way?
In Genesis 2 we are told what?
This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man.”
Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
A man leaves his father and mother and cleaves to his wife.
1 Cor 7
It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.
But since sexual immorality is occurring, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.
The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.
Vs 10 A spouse is not to depart
Heb 13:4
Marriage is honorable among all, and the bed undefiled; but fornicators and adulterers God will judge.
8. Dishonesty
Acts 5 – Ananias and Sapphira were a married couple who sold their land and gave the proceeds
to the disciples - only they didn’t give all of the money. They lied, telling Peter that it was all of
the money when in fact they had saved some back for themselves. When Peter confronted
them, they died!
While sudden death seems like a very harsh punishment for lying, it shows us how much God
hates dishonesty.
Luke 19:1-10 – Zacchaeus
John 8:44 tells us where lies and deceit that we see today comes from.
You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a
murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him.
When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. 45
But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.
9. Dishonesty
If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything - Mark Twain
No man has a good enough memory to be a successful liar. - Abraham Lincoln
I’m not smart enough to lie - Ronald Reagan
Either [Jesus] was what he said he was or he was the world's greatest liar. It is impossible for me
to believe a liar or charlatan could have had the effect on mankind that he has had for 2000
years. We could ask, would even the greatest of liars carry his lie through the crucifixion, when a
simple confession would have saved him? ... Did he allow us the choice... to believe in his
teaching but reject his statements about his own identity - Ronald Reagan
10. Dishonesty
Why is honesty the best policy?
It’s Easier Than Lying.
If you stick with the truth, it doesn’t matter how often you’re asked about the subject—you’ll always
respond the same way, because you’re being honest about what really happened.
You Will Be Found Out.
Regardless of how airtight you think your lie is, someone will find out about it eventually.
The Worst Truth is Better Than the Best Lie
No matter how badly you think someone will react when you tell them something, you can rest
assured that they will be a thousand times more upset if (or rather, when) they find out that you’d
lied to them.
Once Trust is Broken, It Can Never Be Fully Regained
If someone finds out that you’ve lied to them, they will never be able to fully trust you again. Ever.
Even if you spend the rest of your life being a complete paragon of honesty and integrity, the person
you lied to will always wonder if you’re being dishonest on some level.
11. Revelation 21:8
But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all
liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.
Here we see violent people, liars, sexually immoral people, will receive the second death.
Proverbs 3:5–6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways
acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths." In other words, when you're in the middle of a situation, quit trying to
figure it out and start leaning on the Lord. You may not understand everything, but you can trust Him. You can put your
faith in Him, because He cannot—and will not—let you down.
1 John 1:9 ESV
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
The answer is to follow God in your life and in your family’s life. We then can be an example to the world around us. If we
make a mistake, we don’t hide it, we are honest and confess those errors to God, and he is there to forgive us.
