This document provides guidance on how to have open and positive conversations with teens about sex and sexuality from a biblical perspective. It recommends that parents:
1. Approach the topic positively and elevate sex rather than cheapen it.
2. Set clear standards based on scripture while explaining the reasoning behind God's commands on sexuality.
3. Communicate creatively through activities, resources, and symbols to start an ongoing dialogue in an age-appropriate manner.
4. Discuss issues with confidence, acknowledging one's own past openly but focusing on God's forgiveness and desire for one's child's purity.
5. Make prayer a priority for protection, guidance, accountability and one's child's future

The current study explores variance in perceptions of age-appropriateness and overall evaluations of a video game manipulated to contain sexually or violently explicit content as a function of national culture and moral foundations. Purity/Sanctity concerns were the strongest predictor of higher age-appropriateness ratings for sexually explicit (expected) and violent (unexpected) games. US players evaluated the violent game more favorably than Germans. Both evaluated the sexually explicit game similarly, although Germans preferred it to the violent game; US audiences preferred the violent game.
Biblical Ethics 5: Love for Neighbour 3 - SexKevin Smith
This is Lesson 5 of the Biblical Ethics course in the Crossroads Programme. Crossroads is a discipleship programme written Dr Kevin Smith (http://kevinsmith.co.za) and offered by the South African Theological Seminary (http://www.satsonline.org).
Right of Justice and Judgement was not given to souls. It is the sole prerogative of God for which He created His Karmic Law.
His Karmic Law works on the principle of Upliftment of soul. If we are keen to realize our Father then we must stop judging others and also stop seeking justice for wrong done to us.
When we will forgive others, God will forgive our trespasses to His Law.

Connection; Why Does it Matter?
Week 1, Feb 2nd, Hans Rasmussen
Not everyone understands connection and sometimes that is because they don’t see its value. And initially, it can be difficult to explain its importance. Yet, over time any social group- weather it is family, community or work- the lack of connection takes its toll as those social groups that lack connection begin to falter or fall a part. This series will begin by trying to explain why connection is important and what its role is for creating legacy.

As I Have Forgiven You - John Lusk 1-29-17DenverCoC
This is the final installment in the three part series, "As I Have Loved You..." We will focus on the most powerful and appreciated dimension of Jesus love for us--his forgiveness.
Jesus loved his disciples in a way the world had never known. In this series, we are looking at some of the primary ways Jesus expressed that love. This week's lesson will focus on an often overlooked dimension of Jesus love: his passion and persistence to teach his followers...and us as well.

The pressure to begin preparing for Christmas is already mounting - the shopping, the decorating, the making of plans for traveling or hosting. But what if we lingered a little longer and pondered a bit more on the heart of Thanksgiving before dodging headlong into Christmas? What might we learn? How might we benefit? And how might an enhanced level of gratitude serve you well though the Christmas season? Listen in to find out.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.
3. » Sex is not big deal. (it's
actually cool)
» Oral sex isn't sex.
» It's cool to be bi-
curious.
» Porn is awesome.
» Dress Hot.
» We've been dating long
enough.
» Prove to me that you
love me.
» No one will know.
» You must be gay if you
don't try it.
» What are you afraid of?
4.
5. For although they knew God, they neither glorified
him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking
became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools
and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for
images made to look like mortal man and birds and
animals and reptiles.
Romans 1:21-32
6. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of
their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of
their bodies with one another. They exchanged the
truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served
created things rather than the Creator–who is forever
praised. Amen.
Romans 1:21-32
7. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful
lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations
for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also
abandoned natural relations with women and were
inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed
indecent acts with other men, and received in
themselves the due penalty for their perversion.
Romans 1:21-32
8. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to
retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a
depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.
They have become filled with every kind of
wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of
envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice.
Romans 1:21-32
9. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent,
arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil;
they disobey their parents; they are senseless,
faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know
God’s righteous decree that those who do such things
deserve death, they not only continue to do these
very things but also approve of those who practice
them.
Romans 1:21-32
10. Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s
mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy
and pleasing to God–this is your spiritual act of
worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve
what God’s will is–his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Romans 12:1-2
11. It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you
should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you
should learn to control his own body in a way that is
holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the
heathen, who do not know God; and that in this
matter no one should wrong his brother or take
advantage of him.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-7
12. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have
already told you and warned you. For God did not call
us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he
who rejects this instruction does not reject man but
God, who gives you his Holy Spirit.
1 Thessalonians 4:3-7
13. Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage
bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and
all the sexually immoral.
Hebrews 13:4
14. I have written you in my letter not to associate with
sexually immoral people– not at all meaning the people of
this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers,
or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this
world. But now I am writing you that you must not
associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is
sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a
drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.
1 Cor 5:9-11
15. “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food”–but
God will destroy them both. The body is not meant for
sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for
the body. By his power God raised the Lord from the
dead, and he will raise us also. Do you not know that
your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I
then take the members of Christ and unite them with
a prostitute? Never!
1 Cor 6:13-20
16. Do you not know that he who unites himself with a
prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The
two will become one flesh.” But he who unites
himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
1 Cor 6:13-20
17. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man
commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually
sins against his own body. Do you not know that your
body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you,
whom you have received from God? You are not your
own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor
God with your body.
1 Cor 6:13-20
18.
19. HOW to talk to our teens about Sex and Sexuality
20. “Talking to our teens
about sex will be
awkward, difficult
and embarrassing.
Most often they
don’t want to talk
about it, and we
don’t know how to
talk about it.”
21. One of the protections against sexual
abuse in the relationships of our
children is the children themselves.
Arm them with information, confidence
and a safe environment with which to
process the complicated issue of sex
and emerging sexuality.
22. In order to create safe places for
our teens. We have to create
brave places as adults.
23. 1. Be Positive
“In a world that
cheapens sex, we
need to elevate it
and honor it.”
24. 2. Set Standards Based on God’s Word
As kid’s grow,
they will need to
know God’s
standards AND
the whys behind
them.
25. Scriptures to discuss together
• Matt 19:4-6 He created us to become one flesh with one person and to remain faithful
to that one mate.
• Rom 1:24-28 Homosexuality is not God’s plan. God loves those who are same-sex
attracted and we should too. Scripturally this does not please God.
• 1 Cor 7:1- “It is good for a man not to touch a woman,” In the original Greek, touch
translates “light a fire within her.” Don’t ignite a fire of passion. Most things are off
limits physically!
• 1 Cor. 6:18 Flee from sexuality immorality. We must avoid people and places that will
be tempting.
27. Suggestions to communicate creatively
• Passport to Purity is a starting conversation. Many talks over many years must take place.
• Read Every Young man/woman’s Battle
• Have Father/Daughter dates. Tell her how beautiful she is; how much you love her; how
some day God will give her a godly husband who will cherish her.
• Purity symbols such as a purity ring or purity necklace. You know your teen. Do what
motivates them without being pushy.
• Purity pledges or ceremony (Ex. can be found online.)
• Quiet Times with your kids or family devos. about healthy sexuality
• Enlist the help of your teen’s mentor! Sometimes they feel more comfortable talking to
someone other than Mom or Dad.
29. • Q: How can I hold my children to God’s
standard when I had sex before marriage?
A: We hold them to God’s standard because
that is HIS best for them and us.
• It is always best to tell the truth about your
past. How much you tell them depends on
your relationship with them.
• Q: What if it’s too late? A: It’s never too late
from God’s perspective. That’s why there is
forgiveness. Even if they are already having
sex, they can ask for forgiveness, to
become “a new person” Ezek. 36:26
30. • Pray for breakups, pray for your child to get
caught, pray for “cool,” godly role models who
will speak the truth. Pray for your child’s
future spouse, that God would protect him or
her physically, and pray for the parents who
are raising him or her.
• Fast at least once a month for them.
5. Pray, Pray, pray!
