1 Kings 2 1 Now the days of David drew nigh that
he should die; and he charged Solomon his
son, saying, 2 I go the way of all the earth: be thou
strong therefore, and shew thyself a man;
David is seventy years old and nearing death.
He said, “I go the way of all the earth.”
Death is certain.
We will lose loved ones to death, and we will die.
David told Solomon to be strong and
show himself a man.
The Hebrew word for “man” in this verse is iysh
which indicates a a good man, a great man,
a wise man, or as we would say -- a real man.
How was Solomon to show himself such a man?
The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and
the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook. Prov 18:4
3 And keep the charge of the LORD thy God, to
walk in His Ways, to keep His Statutes, and His
Commandments, and His Judgments, and His
Testimonies, as it is written in the Law of
Moses, that thou mayest prosper in all that thou
doest, and whithersoever thou turnest thyself:
A real man has the courage and strength
to walk in the Ways of God.
There are many misconceptions about what
makes a man a real man.
Some think it is the ability to fight and cuss and
drink a lot of beer.
Some think manhood is hitting his wife and
kids, spending the money for whatever he
wants, and in general being a jerk around the
house.Others think it is sexual exploits, illicit children;
lots of women.
Some think manhood is demonstrated by power
and money; a big job.
Others think manhood is shown by what you don’t
do: a real man doesn’t wear pink and doesn’t eat
quiche, never cries, never shows any tenderness, and
couldn’t possibly have a woman as just a friend.
In their minds, a real man never reads a
book, hated school, loves to live on the edge of
trouble.A real man drives a big truck, has a pack of
dogs, big knife, and several guns; you know the
type -- Real men!
None of these things has anything to do
with being a real man.
A real man is a man of God:
1 Timothy 6 11-12 But thou, O man of God, flee
these things; and follow after
righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, mee
kness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on
eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast
professed a good profession before many
A real man follows after righteousness and godliness.
In other words, he loves the things of God:
His first loves are Bible, Church, Prayer, and Worship.
He is a man of faith and he is faithful to his
God, his family, his friends, and to his church.
A real man is strong enough to genuinely love and
show that love without fear. He can be tender and
affectionate without embarrassment.
A real man is strong enough to be patient; to wait
on God to work in his life; even to wait patiently
on his wife to get ready to go somewhere.
A real man submits himself to the Holy Spirit of
God and to the Word of God, and allows God to
make him what he ought to be.
A real man fights the good fight of faith
without fear or doubting.
Prov 18 4The words of a (real) man's mouth are as

There is no shortage of wisdom; The well-spring
of Wisdom is like a flowing brook.
It’s too much trouble to go to Scripture and dip
into the flowing brook of the Wisdom of God.
Besides, God doesn’t tell us what we want to hear!
Most people just won’t dip into the stream.
They prefer their own feelings and their own
It’s too much trouble to meditate on God’s Word
and find the Truth, and live it.
It’s easier to feel. It’s easier to just believe what
you want to believe.
But Let us be real men and women of God.
Let’s dip into the flowing brook of wisdom God’s
Word , so that our words are as deep waters.
Solomon is King of Israel.
As David lay dying, he
instructed Solomon on how to be
a great king.
Be strong; prove yourself a man by
keeping the charge of the Lord God.
A man proves his manhood living for the Lord.

It takes courage to stand for right
and against wrong.
But do you have the courage and strength to live
life God’s Way in every time, in every place, in
every group of people, and in every situation?
That is true courage!
It’s easy to go along with the crowd;
To say what everyone else is saying;
To do what everyone else is doing.
4 That the LORD may continue His Word which He
spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take
heed to their way, to walk before Me in Truth with
all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not
fail thee (said He) a man on the throne of Israel.
The Promises and Blessings of God come
with conditions of faith and obedience.
To have faith in God is to obey His
Word, continuing to walk before Him in

of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

His Law doth he meditate day and night.
