2. Age and Gender and Class
When I went onto the PearlandDean website I was
able to find this (Right) It was able to show my how
age, gender and class is split within everyone who
watched the film.
Age
As you cans see by the table percentages of the
Gender
Within the girl with the dragon tattoo, there is a age groups from 15-24 onwards are very close
together. I believe that the 25-34 age range has a
torture scene between the girl and a rapist.
large percentage firstly because the film is classed
Torture scenes normally torture scenes will
attract more a male viewing and also there is a as an 18+ so it already attracts the older people. I
lot of action within the film which males normally believe it was watched by the age group 45+
because it was out in 2002 and people then would
watch. Normally car scene will attract a male
want to go and see the re-make. Also there is older
following as well and mixed with action is a
actors in the film so it will put off younger people
dream for males for example the car rolling
because stereotypically young actors will attract a
scene in Casino Royal. Yet there is a large
percentage of female viewers. With girls knowing younger older.
that the main protagonist is a women when it is
normally a male who is a hero which is different
to other actions/thrillers.
3. Age and Gender and Class
Class
Class is split up into different areas depending on your job. The people in the higher classes (AB)
will have the professions like teachers, doctors and lawyers. On the table on the previous slide you
could see that AB had 33%. I believe most of that percentage would be in class B because people
like doctors don’t have much time on their hands compared to teachers who will have some time to
go out and watch films in the holidays. There is no surprise that C1 has a high percentage (24%)
because that is the people who have the everyday jobs who earn a decent wage and are able to go
to the cinema on a weekend with friends and family. The reason I believe that DE has a high
percentage is not only does it contain the students who go out with mates but also there is
streaming online where people can go and watch it online or they go out and buy it on DVD.
4. Other Media for our target audience
This slide will tell you the other media which our target audience would read, watch and
listen to.
What would they read?
Our target audience is teenagers/young adults so they are the people who will read the
newspaper like The Sun and Daily Mail and will read the latest celebrity gossip in
magazines like OK and Now!
What do they watch?
These are the type of people who will not watch soaps like Coronation Street and
Emmerdale but instead will watch TV shows like The Inbetweeners, Skins and Breaking
Bad, so we can try and add elements of these shows to attract the viewers.
What do they listen to?
Our target audience are the type of people who will want to listen to the most up to date
music out there.
5. How we will attract the audience
(Editing and Sound)
Editing
At the start we have quite long scenes so you are able to get the audience a bit of
background to where it is being set and it also creates an narrative enigma as it gets
the audience to think about what the background of the characters may be like. When
it comes to the flashbacks we have decided to include quick cuts to show how often
the flashbacks come back the protagonists but also shows the contrast between the
two lives which they live the good side and the bad side.
Sound
As most other thrillers there will not be much happy music but instead rather have
quite sad music as it will fit in with the genre. The sad music will give an incite on
what the life of the protagonist is like. This means that the audience can relate to the
character and get in their frame of mind. Even with the little non-diegetic sounds like
the ambulance siren can add another narrative enigma because they want to know
what happens to the brother..Will he survive?. During the flashbacks there may be
inclusion of contradicting music throughout the happier flashbacks because it shows
the difference in the lives between the main character and his brother.
7. •
The film shutter island attracts an audience of an age of 15+.
This is mainly due to the film being given a 15 classification by
the BBFC.
•
A majority of the films audience(63%) is between the age of
15-34, this is mainly due to the films genre and storyline
which is complex and will appeal to a young audience and the
use of the actor in Leonardo DiCaprio who is very well
known actor.
•
The film will attract an older audience as well as it is set
1954. 11% of the audience is aged 35-44 and the remaining
25% is 45+
8. •
The majority of the films audience is male(62%)
mainly due to the thriller genre of the film and the
dark storyline which has many enigmas which
keeps the viewer wondering.
•
The female audience(38%) is still relatively high but
could be mainly attracted due to the main actor
being Leonardo DiCaprio.
9. •
This slide will tell you what classes watch Shutter Island
the most.
•
Shutter Island is more likely to attract a target audience
from the class C (people with everyday jobs), again
mainly to the storyline and type of film that class AB
(higher class jobs like Doctors) would not appreciate.
•
Class AB people will have upper class jobs like doctors
or lawyers and may not appreciate this kind of story,
although AB still has a high percentage of viewers.
