The front islegible andthe whole designissimple andminimalistic.Howeveronanother reggae
albumitis colourful andisbusy, whichare alsoconventionsmydigipakphotosmeet.The
backgroundof Bob Marley’salbumisunnoticeabledue tohisdreadlockssowiththe factthat Tom
doesn’thave thisstereotypical Jamaicanstyledhair,Imade the backgroundbusyandcontainsthe
Rasta colours,maintainingthe reggae feel. Istill wantedTomtostandout more comparedto the
backgroundso thenitdoesrelate more tothe BobMarley and otherreggae albums.Ialsodidn’tfeel
the needto have a lotof writingasTom (muchlike BobMarley) speaksforhimself.
The rear of my digipakissimilartoBobMarley’sdue to the fact bothour songsare centrallyaligned
and bothdemonstrate the copyrightinformationandbarcode atthe bottom.The colourshowever
on Bob Marley’sbackcoverare simple andthe whole designisminimalistic,butmine isthe
complete opposite.Idecidedtohave the tree theme sothenitrelatestothe mainsongand my
musicvideo‘Time Will Tell’.Thisisrelevantasone of my locationswasinthe forest.Unlike Bob
Marley’sgoldon purple font,Ichoose a lightpinkasI foundthiscolourstoodout againstthe
busy/colourfulbackground.
The spine of my Digipakcontainsthe iconicBobMarleysymbol of a lion.I wantedtouse thisso then
people wouldnoticeitwas a reggae albumdue to the connotations.IalsorepeatedTomsname and
the title of the albummuch like onthe front.I alsodecidedona lightgreycolouras thiscolour
blendedthe frontandbackcoversnicely.Italsois similartoBobMarley’salbumspine.

2. I’mcomparingmy posterto anotherreggae posteritshowsthatboth are rathercolourful however
mine ismore simplisticwithaclearwhite,boldfontwhereasthe otherposterisbusyandgotmuch
more informationonitthenmine does.Bob Marley’sposterhasan actionshotof himand a lot of
large boldtext.Ithas a black back groundhoweverthisisdistractedbythe colourful writing
everywhere.Onthe otherhandmyposterhas a bright,eye-catchingbackground(whichIdrew) with
the intentiontoaddstereotypical reggae/Rastacoloursin.Thisismuchlike the coloursusedinBob
Marley’sposter.Asmyposteris more modernI decidedtoinclude social medialogos,clearlythis
wouldn’thave beenathingin1963. Once againmy artistsname isin biglettersandso isthe title.
Thisis muchlike the reggae posterasit evidentlyshowsMarley’sname. Ihave usedthe same font
inmy digipaktokeepthe fluidityof myadvertsandalsousedone of the same digipakimagesin
orderto create the poster.Ididhowevereditthe postertomake itbrighterandchangedit to
portraitso it wasdifferentandmore like aposter.

I’ve foundthatmy musicvideodoesn’t
reallyconformtothe genre
conventions.Firstmymusicvideois
performance,whichissimilarto
‘Reggae’howeverEtana’svideoismore
narrative showingastory.
She doesfilminthe ina forestandon a streetmuchlike more howeverminewasn’tanarrative.
The example musicvideohasflashbacktoapreviouspartinthe two maincharacters relationships
whichisverydifferenttomine.The pace of the example videoisquickerthanmine andhasmuch
more cuts. There are also referencestothe Rasta coloursandstereotypical Jamaicanthingssuchas
the style of hair andthe instrumentsused. The similaritiesof videosare thatinthe majorityof her
musicvideoshe isperforming.

and digipak.Ifeel thatthe endresultwouldworkwellonthe openmarket,asall conformto the
genre conventionsbutalsochallengesthem.
