RESEARCH
Presented paper at annual COMSOL users’conference entitled, Power Transistor Heat Sink Design Trade-offs, in cooperation with
two members of the University of Hartford’s Engineering faculty. Paper discussed heat transferprocess in a TO-220 transistor
package and pointed out the benefits of certain design features. Conclusions: A significant increase in useful life can be achieved
though a relatively small decrease in operating temperature.
KEY PROJECTS
Designed and fabricated a power transistor: Utilized COMSOL multiphysics application to program ZETEX ZXTN2020 power
transistorto perform heat transfer measurement functions, including radiation, convection, and heat sink. Perform measurements
of gradient temperature, ambient temperature, and mash. Built and tested bread-board prototype prior to full demonstration in class.
Gained circuit design experience at the device-level.
Designed and fabricated a DC-DC voltage converterusing MULTISIM software. Designed converterfor maximum efficiency and
measured power and voltage losses at various voltages. Prototype demonstrated and Evaluated in class.
Designed and built a solar power system, using MULTISIM. Photovoltaic output was 50 VAC, stepped down to 5 V DC.
Designed, built, tested and demonstrated a Smart Air station, capable of selecting optimal tire pressures for any model automobile
