PA CAREERLINK® MONTGOMERY COUNTY WORKSHOPS AND RECRUITMENTS FOR August 2013
All workshops are provided at NO COST. You must be enrolled in the PA CareerLink® system to attend. Pre-registration is required, please sign up on the CareerLink® Website
(www.pacareerlink.state.pa.us) . Please be prompt. No admittance after the start of the workshop.
WORKSHOPS at a GLANCE
REV UP Your RESUME Both the format and the content of your resume are critical.
Is your resume branded? Does it contain a summary statement? Is your resume focused
on the position you seek? Add new life and direction to your resume to land that job!
Two levels: Advanced/Intermediate (A) and Basic/ Beginner (B)
INTERVIEWING & BRANDING The key to “acing” the interview is preparation and
practice! Particpants are walked through the entire process, first contact to job offer,
including: strategies,types of interviews, branding statement, first impressions, questions
to expect & ask , handling the “behavioral interview”, and closing the interview.
Interview Tutorial Learn how to use “Interview Stream” an on-line interviewing
tutorial. Practice your interviewing techniques at home. Ask for directed questions for
your field of employment. Staff critiquing available upon request. Pre-requisite:
Interviewing Workshop.
STRATEGIES FOR BUSINESS PROFESSIONALS
Round table discussion topics on: targeted job searches, identifying non-advertised jobs,
networking. Special rotating topics discussed each week, such as “Dealing with the Age
Issue” and ”Advanced Job Board Techniques”etc.
EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE Emotional Intelligence is the ability to better
understand, empathize and negotiate with other people. Learn how to acquire these
leadership skills in this two-part interactive workshop.
TRANSFERABLE SKILLS Changing careers? Planning for your first Job? By
Understanding and Identyfying your transferable (portable) skills, that new career may
become a reality. Evaulate your life experiences and learn to translate them into
marketable skills.
NETWORKING Using LINKEDIN Explore networking! This two hour interactive
workshop will teach you how to maneuver through the site and put forward your
professional brand to attract that special employer.
UNCOVER NEW CAREER OPTIONS Changing Careers? Uncertain about a career
path? This workshop introduces you to O‟NET, a website containing information about
occupations, skills, education requirements and current wages. Learn how tomatch your
personality to a job. Pre-requisite: basic computer skills.
ACCOMPLISHMENT STORIES Master the structure & components of a good
accomplishment story. When you can effectively tie your accomplishment stories
directly to the employer's needs & problems, you will most likely get the job.
Held at the Human Service Center, 1430 DeKalb St., Norristown, Community Room
WELCOME ABOARD! Introduction to CareerLink Services that can lead to your
employment success. Pre-requiste to advance to other services.
EXPLORING JOBGATEWAY Learn, hands-on, how to use the CareerLink Job
Search tool effectively.
MICROSOFT OFFICE Four consecutive weeks of project-based computer instruction
building on the skills learned the week before. The basic course of study includes
Internet Basics, Word, Intermediate Word and Introduction to Excel.
KEYBOARDING & MOUSE TUTORIAL – Learn the basics of the PC; instruction
on how to navigate the keyboard , master the mouse and perform simple tasks.
MATH REFRESHER This workshop offers a refresher in basic math concepts, algebra
and more advanced concepts based on individual need. Please provide examples of your
learning needs (Recommended for WorkKeys students.
PA CAREERLINK® MONTGOMERY COUNTY PARTNER PROGRAMS
VETERANS’ SERVICES: A Veteran‟s Representative is available daily to assist veterans
in securing employment and training.
GOODWILL INDUSTRIES: The Senior Community Employment Program is a
community service and work based training program for eligible seniors 55 years of age
and older. Participants must have a family income of no more than 125% above the
Federal Poverty Level and must be unemployed. 610.270.3429 x 209
EXPERIENCE WORKS: The Senior Community Employment Program is a community

SCORE: Provides budding entrepreneurs with free counseling sessions and workshops.
Individuals can draw on their experience and learn the steps toward self-employment.
Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center: Employment and training;
counseling and job placement opportunities for the American Indian, Alaskan Native or
Native Hawaiian population.
