Nhs advertising review and reflection by james fox
1. NHS Advertising Review and Reflection
For our assignment we were given a brief by the NHS to create and deliver a high quality four part
film. As the NHS building in Salford is being refurbished and is in need of a video to help promote the
key messages from the right treatment right place campaign: The three parts we were to produce
were ‘self care’, ‘Health professionals’, and ‘accident and emergency’. Also to raise awareness so
that the public don’t clog up the services unnecessarily.
When our group got given the brief we didn’t really understand the concept of what tasks we were
given but after recapping we then understood what jobs was set. Our group decided to split the
four/three parts between the four/three of us. This was a struggle as one of the members of the
group was continuously absent. We then resulted to giving the members part out equally among us
as we didn’t want to fall behind with our work. Our group then faced an even bigger problem as
another member of group was absent because of personal troubles which then disappointed the
remaining group members. The two enduring group members then progressed with the two parts
that weren’t being seen to as the other two members were absent. One group member then
returned and happily carried on working with the part that he was given.
Our groups first idea for ‘Right treatment, Right place’ consisted of 3 doors and 3 different
treatments. A man/woman would be seen walking into the first door which represented ‘Self care’
then work produced by Ashleigh would be shown. Our group then repeated this process and led
onto the second door which signified ‘Professional Health Services’ which then Billie’s work would be
shown. Furthermore onto the third and final door this symbolized ‘Accident and Emergency’ which
my work is then revealed.
After progress we then enhanced our first idea by keeping the general outline but getting rid off
owns work. So the idea was to keep the first, second, and third door. But, the opening of the first
door would be somebody lay in bed that is ill and has a cold. This indicates ‘Self care’. The second
door then shows a man walking into a chemist. This implies ‘Professional Health Services’. The third
door then verifies a man casually walking then suddenly has a heart attack. This resembles ‘Accident
and Emergency’.
Pre-Production
I think our group should have contributed a lot more when it came to pre-production as I and other
members of the group weren’t as organised and prepared as we should and could have been. Now,
for next time we know we need to be more up to date with who’s acting in our film and whose
director, and whose cameraman. In my opinion next time we are given a task like this we need to
work more as a group rather than take our tasks and begin working independently.
My View on the final film
My overall view on our final film is that it does have some justifications and in my opinion I think it
needs altering but I think if we had more time on the project it would’ve been perfected and made a
lot better, not that the quality of the film is poor but if we had more time with the project and more
time for preparation with actors and camera’s and basically the location of where we were to film.
2. But considering the time we had to film and prepare I think we did well. But if we were to do it again
I’d defiantly take charge and make sure everyone in my group attended lessons and make sure the
group were consistent with they’re work and up to date with their tasks. For example ‘Accident and
Emergency’ or ‘Self Care’. I think the actors and cameraman did exceptionally well with their work
within the given time. Besides them complications there are no major problems with the film.
