Jaipur: The increasing co-
rona infection can be com-
pletely controlled if every
person takes corona pan-
demic seriously and man-
datorily wears a mask,

need to raise awareness to-

This was a prominent
outcome of the open plat-

‘WANT PEACE, READY FOR WAR’
New Delhi: Firmly ar-
ticulating the country’s
position on the tense
border row with China
in eastern Ladakh, De-
fence Minister Rajnath
Singh on Tuesday said
Beijing has been very
clearly conveyed that
any attempt to “unilat-
erally” change the sta-
tus quo along the Line
of Actual Control is not
at all acceptable, and
that India’s armed forc-
es are ready to deal with
“all contingencies” in
the high-altitude region.
Making a statement
in Lok Sabha, Singh
said he would not hesi-
tate to share that India
is facing a “challenge”
in Ladakh but at the
same time added that
the House should have
“full confidence” that
the armed forces will
always rise to the chal-
lenge and make the
country proud.
“I will not hesitate to
share with this august
House that we are fac-
ing a challenge in
Ladakh and I urge the
House to pass a resolu-
tion in support of our
armed forces who have
been defending our
motherland at great
heights and most in-
clement weather condi-
tions,” he said.
Referrin to the Gal-
wan Valley clashes of
June 15, the defence
minister said Indian
soldiers “inflicted costs
including casualties on
the Chinese side.”
Singh also referred to
his talks with the Chi-
nese defence minister
on the sidelines of a
multilateral meet in
Moscow recently, and
said it was made clear to
him that though India
wants to resolve the row
peacefully, there should
be no doubt about its de-
termination to protect
its sovereignty and ter-
ritorial integrity.

SC: ‘BINDAS BOL’ PROGRAMME
APPEARS TO VILIFY MUSLIMS
The Supreme Court Tuesday stayed the telecast
of episodes of Sudarshan TV’s show ‘Bindas
Bol’, saying
at this stage,
prima facie
it does
appear the
programme
“vilifies the
Muslim
community”.
Terming it as
a “rabid programme”, the court also restrained
Sudarshan TV from telecasting the programme
on Tuesday and Wednesday while adjourning the
matter to September 17.
1 The problem with the
electronic media is all
about TRPs, leading to
more and more sensational-
ism, damage reputation of
people and masquerade as
form of right
2 The power of
electronic media is
huge. It can become a focal
point by targeting particular
community or groups
3 Such allegations
(Muslims infiltrating
civil services) are without
factual basis; Can such
programmes be allowed in a
free society?
4 Reputations can be
damaged; image can be
tarnished. How to control
this? The state cannot do this
5 The edifice of a stable
democratic society
and constitutional rights and
duties are based on the
coexistence of communities
6 We need to look at the
ownership of the
visual media. Entire
shareholding pattern of the
company must be public. If
the government is putting
more advertisements in one
and less in another
7 Media can’t fall foul of
standards prescribed
by themselves. One needs
to see the role of anchor
The percentage of time
taken by the anchor to
speak
8 When we talk about
journalistic freedom, it
is not absolute. A journalist
shares the same freedom as
other citizens
9 Let the best within
the nation suggest
measures which we can
help debate on our
platform and then arrive
at standards. Now an
anchor is targeting one
community
10 No programme that
creates communal
disharmony can be aired

Jaipur: Unlock 4.0 has
contributed to in-
creased passenger load
in the 310 trains being
operated by the rail-
way as of now due to
the ongoing corona
epidemic. Generally
the trains are over-
crowded from Navratra
to post Diwali &
Chhath festival. As per
railway records most
trains are running
with packed capacity
while some trains have
a long waiting list as
well. Exception are
those trains which are
running on unortho-
dox routes such as
Jaipur-Prayag Raj and
Jaipur-Jabalpur which
have less passenger
load.
According to a view
had the Marudhar Ex-
press for Varanasi and
Puja Express for Jam-
mu Tawi been started
then it would have had
far more passengers
load. The special trains
run by railway for
JEE/NEET aspirants
finished their running
schedule on Tuesday
and never had full oc-
cupancy. Now the need
of the hour is to have
trains considering the
festival passenger
crowd set too travel 17
September onwards.
The existing number
of trains on present
routes will not be able
to cater to the passen-
ger load expected until
November end. Rail-
way management,
which has been incur-
ring losses due to low
passenger load during
rising coronavirus
pandemic times be-
cause passengers did
not move anywhere
out, the opportunity to

Pradesh, West Bengal

New Delhi: The illegal
sand mining issue of
Rajasthan echoed in the
parliament on Tuesday.
BJP MP Dushyant Sin-
gh raised the illegal
sand mining issue in
Baran district demand-
ing an independent in-
quiry into it.
Dushyant Singh also
requested Rs 5 lakh
compensation for all
the labourers who had
lost their lives during
mining and transport
of sand in the area. The
Baran-Jhalawar MP al-
leged that ever since the
Congress came to pow-
er in Rajasthan the ille-
gal sand mining mafia
is making merry. He
informed Loksabha
that so far 8 labourers
have lost their lives in
the illegal mining op-
erations. He said such
incidents raise serious
questions on the work-
ing of the minister for
mines in the state. It is
noteworthy that MP Du-
shyant Singh was refer-
ring to the sand mine
collapse about three
weeks ago which took
the lives of 11 mine la-
bourers. The unfortu-
nate incident happened
near Atru in the Parvati
river bed area. This in-
cident had brought to
light the illegal sand
mining despite tall
claims of restrictions
by the administration
and police which has
taken lives of many in
the past as well.

are rapidly increasing
and the government
should ensure proper

First India Bureau
Jodhpur: High Court
issued notices to RBI
and others, in a bank-
ing fraud using the
IMPS system. Petition-
er Arshay Agarwal
pleaded that, he was
asked to transfer Rs 15
lakh to an account in
lieu of allotment of
dealership of ayurvedic
medicines by a person,
which he promptly
transferred to the ac-
count of the ayurvedic
medicine company us-
ing IMPS facility.
When he didn’t get
the said dealership, he
came to know that, the
said account didn’t be-
long to any ayurvedic
company. Petitioner
complained of the fraud
to the Banking Om-
budsman, and had now
moved to the HC.
The counsel for the
petitioner advocate Ab-
himanyu Singh told the
court that his client had
filled the name of the
ayurveda company as
beneficiary while trans-
ferring the money and
the bank should have
tallied the account
number and the benefi-
ciary name before exe-
cuting the transfer of
funds.
Singh pleaded that
the bank should have
stopped the transaction
if it found any discrep-
ancy in the name of the
account holder, and the
account number filled
in. He said that it was
the duty of the bank to
monitor and inform of
suspicious bank ac-
counts under the Anti
Money laundering Act.
Justice AK Gaur issued
notices to RBI, con-
cerned banks and oth-
ers after hearing the

High Court has asked
the Rajasthan Univer-

in an alternate way.
Petitioner Pankaj Ku-
mar Yadav has pleaded
through his counsel
that, due to rising cases
of Covid-19, the exams
should be cancelled to
keep the students safe
from the infection.
Advocate Yuvraj Sa-

that, most students had
gone back to their na-
tive places, and many of
them hail from other
states, and it wasn’t eas-
ily possible for them to
come and appear for the
exams in the existing
situation.
He said that UGC had
instructed to not hold
exams in a traditional
manner, and if the ex-
ams can’t be deferred
then online or some
other option should be
adopted for it.
The court deferred
the hearing till Wednes-

hroughout an-
tiquity, from the
Mediterranean
to Egypt and to-
day’s Middle
East, people believed that
misfortune, including acci-
dents, diseases, and some-
times even death, were
caused by external forces.
Be they gods or other
types of supernatural forc-
es (such as a daimon), peo-
ple — regardless of faith
— sought magical means
of protection against them.
While medicine and sci-
ence were not absent in
antiquity, they competed
with entrenched systems
of magic and the wide-
spread recourse to it. Peo-
ple consulted professional
magicians and also prac-
tised their own forms of
folk magic.
Possibly derived from
the Latin word “amoliri”,
meaning “to drive away”
or “to avert”, amulets were
believed to possess inher-
ent magical qualities.
These qualities could be
naturally intrinsic (such
as the properties of a par-
ticular stone) or imbued
artificially with the assis-
tance of a spell.
Not surprisingly the use
of amulets was an integral
part of life. From jewellery
and embellishments on
buildings, to papyri in-
scribed with spells, and
even garden ornaments,
they were deemed effective
forms of protection.
Amulets have been
around for thousands of
years. Amber pendants
fromDenmark’sMesolithic
age (10,000-8,000 BC) seem
to have been worn as a form
of generic protection.
Jewelleryandornaments
referencing the figure of
the scarab beetle were also
popular all-purpose amu-
lets in Egypt, dating from
thebeginningof theMiddle
Kingdom (2000 BC).
Two of the most com-
mon symbols of protection
are the eye and the phal-
lus. One or both amulet
designs appear in many
contexts, providing protec-
tion of the body (in the
form of jewellery), a build-
ing (as plaques on exterior
walls), a tomb (as an in-
scribed motif), and even a
baby’s crib (as a mobile or
crib ornament).
In Greece and the Middle
East, for example, the evil
eye has a history stretching
back thousands of years.
Today the image adorns
the streets, buildings and
even trees of villages.
The magic behind the
evil eye is based on the be-
lief that malevolence can
be directed towards an in-
dividual through a nasty
glare. Accordingly, a “fake”
eye, or evil eye, absorbs the
malicious intention in
place of the target’s eye.
In the context of “magi-
cal thinking”, amulets may
be dismissed by critical
thinkers of all persua-
sions, but they remain in
use throughout the world.
Often combined with sci-
ence and common sense,
but not always, amulets
have made a resurgence
during the COVID-19 pan-
demic. The amulets are
equally as diverse, coming
in all shapes and sizes, and
promoted by politicians,
religious leaders and so-
cial influencers.
A traditional form of
adornment and protection
in Javanese culture, now
popular with tourists,
“burnt root” bracelets,
known as “akar bahar”,
have been sold by commu-
nity shamans. Indonesia’s
Agriculture Minister Syah-
rul Yasin Limpo, mean-
while, has promoted an aro-
matherapy necklace con-
taining a eucalyptus potion
touted as a preventative
against COVID (useless in
terms of science but per-
haps less dangerous than
hydroxychloroquine).

ften considered as soft pow-
er, art, and culture, in all its
dimensions, is in effect,
strong, resilient, elevating
moods and thoughts, heal-
ing in times of difficulties
and empowering all, a su-
perpower indeed.
From the earliest times, men
and women have built shelters
and homes, workplaces, roads,
railways, airports and modes
of transport, schools and col-
leges, palaces and forts, shops,
and markets, auditoriums and
theatres: but nothing is com-
plete, even after foolproof con-
struction, without aesthetics
and decorations, objects of
beauty and the sounds of music
and the rivetting steps of danc-
ing. We are well aware that
along with science and technol-
ogy, the paintings, decorations
raise even the most ordinary
utilitarian items to those of
charm and joy. A painted lattu
is as thrilling an item for a
young child as a car or vehicle
toy which moves electronically
or even mechanically.
Art and culture is our
treasure and power for the
well being and development
of the individual and socie-
ty. As different communi-
ties, societies, nations, coun-
tries and the people initiated
varied forms of music,
dance, painting, architec-
ture, sculpture over the cen-
turies, the world today is
extremely rich in this herit-
age. Its protection and con-
tinuation become a chal-
lenge as there is almost infi-
nite variety and space and
time and the systems re-
quired for it cannot be calcu-
lated. Yet when we lose some
of the art due to the passage
of time it feels sad and there
is a feeling of remorse and
helplessness. Hence it is im-
portant for any generation
to understand and take for-
ward what has come to them
from their parents, grand-
parents, and ancestors who
have lived before us.
So how can this be done even
as we often race against time
for other activities essential for
our survival and growth? In the
first place, we need to realise
that we do not need to reinvent
the wheel, as already there are
a large number of schools, col-
leges, universities, and institu-
tions specially devoted to dif-
ferent arts and crafts who are
carrying on this mission.
Moreover today with record-
ings and electronic and digital
capturing of performances, it
is easier to store this kind of
rich talent. It is not that all in-
stitutions are of the same level
and quality, yet with sharing of
knowledge the performances
have reached a wider audience
than ever before. Thus one of
the best ways to retain the fin-
est of our art is to continue the
improvement of these institu-
tions and build new ones where
required, especially ensuring
that their location is as spread
out as possible and not concen-
trated in a few cities or towns.
In modern times people
and more so students are of-
ten in a hurry and a rush to
learn and perform, thereby
missing out important as-
pects of art and not reaching
higher levels. The transfer
of knowledge remains un-
fulfilled. No doubt when
people’s livelihoods are in-
volved it is difficult to be pa-
tient but as drawings and
paintings, music and dance
touch the heart and soul and
even work as an effective
medicine, the goal must al-
ways remain to move to-
wards perfection in whatev-
er way one interprets it.
Further, it is extremely im-
portant to realise why we need
to focus on artists and perform-
ers and encourage them in all
possible ways for ultimately
their success will depend on its
understanding, appreciation
by the people. Nobody would
like to perform or dance to a lit-
tle filled theatre or to paint and
do sculpture without a pas-
serby enjoying it, Therefore the
link between the performer
and the audience is extremely
vital to maintain the strength
and vitality of art and culture.
As much as the artist it is the
audience and the viewers that
matter, or rather, matter even
more. Putting people first, a
concept developed by Robert
Chambers in Development
Thinking is even more impor-
tant in this the field for without
a Daad there is no Mushaira
and without the clapping or
foot tapping, music, and dance
does not one into its own.
It is evident that art and
culture has to be a way of
life, embodied in our civili-
sation, both as a daily as
well as a special routine.
The decorations, the pujas,
the festivals at home are as
important as the profession-
al performances; in fact,
they greatly reinforce each
other and have a multiplier
effect. Thus, art and culture
is the power that benefits
the society without costing
too much; it is an economi-
cal way to improve the qual-
ity of life, build relation-
ships, and to show the re-
spect due to those who devel-
oped these forms.

Hitting out at Kishan, Bachchan said, “Just be-

that yesterday one of our members, who is from

Within no time Kangana Ranaut responded with
a below the belt response dragging Bachchan’s son
and daughter into the controversy proving that she
doesn’t respect one’s age or position. Kangana is
on a political high, so why should she bother about
reputations? An army of trolls began criticising
Bachchan with unseemly tweets soon after Kan-

The film industry is clearly witnessing a division

is Jaya Bachchan who mustered courage to speak

shared her views in an interview to a TV channel
in defence of the film industry and its reputation.

DEMOCRACY BEING KILLED,
MOCKED AT IN PARL: BRIEN
New Delhi: On the International Day of Democ-
racy, it is being “killed and mocked” in Parlia-
ment’s monsoon session,
said TMC MP Derek O’Brien.
“Today is International Day
for Democracy but what we
are seeing in the Parliament
is total murder, a mockery of
democracy. This is the first
time in the history of a reg-
ular session that such a thing has happened.
The last time it happened was in 1962 during
the Chinese invasion. The name of zero hour
too should be changed as the time has been
limited to 30 minutes. In next session, proba-
bly it will be just two minutes,” he siad.—ANI

Dr. Devi Shetty shared
useful information with
general public on effec-
tive management of the
spread of coronavirus.
The live telecast also
provided people an op-
portunity to listen to
experts and get educat-
ed about the pandemic.
The event was put on an
open platform to create
awareness towards the
disease to those resid-
ing in far off villages
and to clear the doubts
and misconceptions
among all citizens. The
innovative approach
was effective in gener-
ating awareness among
masses and those who
missed the live telecast
watched it online later.
During the session,
Dr SK Sarin said that
the rule of ‘No Mask-No
Entry’ should be strict-
ly implemented at all
the public places, in-
cluding the government
and private institu-
tions, banks, markets
areas etc, then only the
efforts of the govern-
ment to contain spread
of corona infection
would be fruitful. “Eve-
rybody should under-
stand that self-protec-
tion is the only treat-
ment of corona and we
will succeed in winning
this battle only by
strictly abiding by it.
People should wear
masks and should see
those wearing masks
with respect,” he added.
The medical experts
opined that the doctors,
nurses, paramedical
staff, police personnel
etc., all those who are
playing an important
role in the battle against
corona should be re-
spected in the society.
“ The role models of
different sections of the
society and the persons
having influence in
public life should set ex-
amples by wearing
masks and fully follow-
ing the social distanc-
ing norms. So far, the
government of Ra-
jasthan has done effi-
cient work in fighting
the corona pandemic.
The general public
should also join the ef-
forts being made by the
state government to en-
sure that all precau-
tions are very well tak-
en and followed to win
the fight against coro-
na,” Dr Trehan said.
Meanwhile, Dr Devi
Shetty said that by now,
the country and the
world have learnt a lot
on how to manage and
prevent coronavirus
spread. “Rajasthan
gave famous ‘Bhilwara
Model’. Corona pan-
demic is not going to
end soon and the fight
againstthisviruswould
be fought for a long
time. Thus, in such a
situation, people have
to be very cautious. The
indifferent or careless
attitude towards safety
precautions could cost
heavy,” he added.
During the event, CM
Gehlot said that It is our
duty to save every life.
“The state government
is taking all possible
measures to prevent the
spread of corona infec-
tion. More than 100 vid-
eo conferences have
been held since March.
The health infrastruc-
ture has been strength-
ened across the state
and the testing capacity
is being continuously
increased. Adequate ar-
rangements have been
made for oxygen beds,
ICU beds and ventila-
tors. The focus is on
bringing the rate of
deaths due to corona to
the lowest level and in-
crease the recovery rate
as much as possible. He
said he hoped that the
suggestions made by
the expert doctors dur-
ing the discussion
would have an impact
on the general public
and people would take
all special precautions
to control this epidem-
ic,” he said.
Medical & Health

past few months testing
facilities have been in-
stalled in 22 districts of
state & labs are being
set-up in remaining dis-
tricts. He said efforts
made to control corona
under the leadership of

tions are in place, Jus-

shot back: “Really? If
things would have been
so hunky-dory then we
would not have to see
what we see on TV every
day.” The searing cri-
tique of the judges is
significant at a time the
media is under scrutiny
over a no-limit, ethics-
challenged coverage of
the Sushant Singh Ra-
jput investigations by
some channels.
“The anchor’s griev-
ance is that a particular
group is gaining entry
into the civil services,”
said Justice DY Chan-
drachud, referring to
the Sudarshan TV show.
“How insidious is this?
Such insidious charges

legations without factu-

“Reputations can be

Chandrachud re-
marked, saying it would
be difficult for any gov-
ernment to regulate pri-

The judge told Sudar-

the nation and is not ac-
cepting India is a melt-

ture. Your client needs
to exercise his freedom
with caution.” Justice
KM Joseph suggested:
“We need to look at the
ownership of the visual
media. The entire share-
holding pattern of the
company must be on the
site for the public. The
revenue model of that
company should also be
put up to check if the
government is putting
more advertisements in
one and less in another.”
Justice Joseph said the
media “can’t fall foul of
standards they pre-
scribe”. Pointing at the
airtime taken up by an-
chors, he commented
that some anchors
“mute the speaker” and
ask questions.
Representing the cen-

FINALLY ACHCHE
DIN FOR JDA!
Are some departments and their
problems ‘tailor made’ for a
select few bureaucrats since it is
after these officials join in, that
there is a sudden change in the
department’s fortunes? Or is it that
there are only a handful of officials
who actually want to bring in a
change by taking on challenges.
Well, it might not completely be
one or the other way, rather a
mix of both the aspects. Take for
example the case of Rajasthan
Housing Board which the previous
government had even thought of
shutting down, but with Pawan
Arora at helm, the board has not
only had a miraculous revival but
has also been for biggest revenue
generator for the Rajasthan
government. And it appears that
even the Jaipur Development
Authority is headed on the same
‘road to recovery’. Marred with
financial woes, JDA did not even
have money to pay to it’s staff
members at one point, however
after Gaurav Goyal took over the
charge, it appears that ‘Achche
Din’ are truly here. Only in the
past month of August, the JDA
has earned a whopping 80 crore
rupees. Motivated by it’s revenue
generation, the Authority has now
set itself a target of 280 crore
rupees till October 2020. This has
been achieved though announcing
a new scheme wherein eleven
thousand people have registered
for 1200 plots. While work is
going on in full swing, the JDA has
already paid it’s overdraft of 40
crore rupees however the challenge
of paying the long term loan is
still very much alive but even the
babus posted in JDA have suddenly
become hopeful that they can
overcome this challenge as well!
Coincidence or sheer hard work?

SACHIN PILOT FOR
AICC SPOKESPERSON?
Will the AICC’s spokesperson
be changed? Will it be a
face from Rajasthan who will
be given this responsibility?
Questions like these are floating
around in party and power circles
of Jaipur and New Delhi. The
reason: appointment of national
spokesperson Randeep Surjewala
as General Secretary Incharge
of Karnataka. There is a strong
preception in the party’s circle in
New Delhi that Deependra Hudda
or Pawan Khera could be given
the role. However, Sachin Pilot
is being considered a stronger
candidate for the position of
national spokesperson. Although
there are rumours that Sachin,
spread by Pilot camp MLAs,
has declined taking any position
and wants to stay in Rajasthan
only, however there is an even
powerful “mill” in Delhi that
claims that nothing of this
sort has been finalised and
Pilot could be given the job of
national spokesperson due to
his command on English and
Hindi. However, the same mill
also claims in the same breath
that Margaret Alva’s son - Nikhil
Alva, currently handling Rahul
Gandhi’s media management -
could also be given the position.

Kangana seeks
damages worth
`2 crore from BMC
Mumbai: Actor Kan-
gana Ranaut has
amended her peti-
tion before the Bom-
bay High Court to
seek a compensation
of Rs 2 crore from the
BMC for “illegal”
demolition at her
bungalow.
After the BMC de-
molished what it
termed as illegal al-
terations at the
“Queen” actor’s bun-
galow at Pali Hill in
suburban Bandra on
September 9, Ranaut
moved HC.
A division bench
led by Justice SJ
Kathawalla had
stayed the demoli-
tion, saying that the
civic body’s actions
seemed “malafide”
(having dubious in-
tentions).
In her amended
plea, Ranaut alleged
that the BMC’s deci-
sion to demolish her
property was a direct
consequence of her
comments against
the Maharashtra
government.
The petition also
contended that the
Bollywood actor had
sought the BMC’s
permission to carry
out structural re-
pairs at her bunga-
low, and the same
was granted in 2018.
The plea urged the
court to declare the
BMC’s action as ille-
gal and direct the
civic body and its
“concerned officials”
to pay her Rs 2 crore
in damages.
The court is slated
to hear the matter on
September 22.

Jaipur: A much
awaited 90 minutes
long meeting be-
tween AICC Ra-
jasthan Incharge
Ajay Maken and the
Congress leader
Sachin Pilot has vir-
tually failed to make
any breakthrough on
certain sensitive po-
litical issues in an
ongoing stalemate
scenario. This was
perhaps the second
meeting between the
two leaders, where they
had already met on
13th September also.
According to sources,
Pilot emphatically and
effectively put up and
argued his viewpoint on
all the related issues in-
cluding an ongoing de-
lay in the submission of
three member commit-
tee report to Congress
President and obviously
a subsequent delay in
the finalization of cabi-
net reshuffle and politi-
cal appointments. Pilot
also reportedly raised
the issues of his con-
cern about five per-
cent Gurjar reserva-
tion, the likely vaca-
tion of his own, Vish-
vendra and Ramesh
Meena’s government
bungalows, once they
have lost the status
of deputy CM and
cabinet ministers
respectively. There
are already serious
‘ideological differenc-
es’ over the comeback
of two Pilot camp min-
isters i.e. Vishvendra
Singh and Ramesh
Meena in the next
cabinet re-
s h u f f l e .
T h o u g h

were ab-
solutely no ‘pre-condi-
tions’ for Pilot’s ‘home-
coming’, but still it is
believed that with a
view to take everyone
along, Congress high
command and CM
Ashok Gehlot
may agree to
give two or three
positions to re-
bel MLAs. On
the PCC front
also, Pilot camp
is insisting to
have proper rep-
resentation in the
PCC’s likely re-
structuring in the
coming days.
Pilot also report-
edly submitted a
list of few names,
which may be re-
lated to impending
cabinet reshuffle, po-
litical appointments
and ‘sharing of pow-
er’ in PCC. Pilot also
assured Maken of a
likely massive Congress
win in the upcoming
Panchayati election.
According to a
highly reliable input,
the main reason for
the failure of the
meeting is Maken and
Pilot’s all together
‘different views’ on
the functioning of Ge-
hlot government,
where Maken, like Avi-
nash Pande, has also
emerged as the princi-
pal spokesperson of a
performing and merito-
rious CM Gehlot in
front of the Congress
high command. Only
three days back, after
having a detailed re-
view of Corona situa-
tion in the state, Maken
had publicly rated
Gehlot as the best all
India Corona per-
former.
But at the same time,
Pilot has his own phi-
losophy and views on
the performance of the
present government in
the state.
A 90-minute-long Maken-Pilot meet fails to make any breakthrough
Simplification in this global world is
necessary. We must eliminate the
unnecessary so that the necessary is
given space in our thoughts and life.

Pledgeof‘NoMask,NoEntry’:CMappealstopeople
CM Gehlot said, in this pandemic, protecting others is possible only by protecting
oneself. An infected person can also put a large number of other people’s lives at risk.
Naresh Sharma
Jaipur: Hours after
holding an important
online session for cre-
ating awareness among
masses related to Co-
rona, Chief Minister
Ashok Gehlot called
upon the people of
the state to take a
pledge of ‘No Mask,
No Entry’ in public
places, roads, mar-
kets, workplaces, re-
ligious places, public
transport, social
events etc.
“This is the most ef-
fective way to prevent
corona infection. Dur-
ing the Corona Aware-
ness Dialogue on Tues-
day, eminent medical
experts of the country
have also given the
same message. Vari-
ous social, commu-
nity and mass organ-
izations should lead
the campaign to ful-
fill this resolution,”
Gehlot said while ad-
dressing a review
meeting on Corona
pandemic at the Chief
Minister’s residence
on Tuesday.
“In this pandemic,
protecting others is
possible only by pro-
tecting oneself. An in-
fected person can
also put a large num-
ber of other people’s
lives at risk. In such
a situation, everyone
can succeed together
to prevent the spread
of corona virus in-
fection,” he said.
Gehlot called upon
the resolution of ‘No
Mask, No Entry’ to be
faithfully done for at
least the next 4 weeks.
The Chief Minister
directed officials to
make special efforts
to achieve the goal of
wearing masks in
crowded places,
keeping proper dis-
tance and effective
adherence to other
health protocols.
He said that along
with the police, other
departments have also
been given the respon-
sibility of maintaining
the health protocol. In
such a situation, all of-
ficers must take active
participation in this
campaign. He instruct-
ed to prepare for the
availability of one lakh
beds for the coming
days in the event of in-
creasing infection.
“Officers of the con-
cerned departments
should periodically re-
view the activities per-
mitted under unlock to
ensure that there is no
risk of infection of co-
rona from any activity.
If an activity in-
creases the likeli-
hood of the corona
virus spreading, a
partial or complete
ban may be consid-
ered,” Gehlot said.
He gave instructions to
keep the attendance
limit for family and so-
cial events at 50 from
September 21 and
strictly follow the rules
of wearing masks and
proper distance.
Meanwhile, pro-
viding a major relief
to the peole of state,
Medical and Health
Minister Dr Raghu
Sharma, on Tuesday,
said that the rate of
examination of co-
rona in private hos-
pitals and laborato-
ries in the state has
been reduced from to
Rs 1200 per sample,
which was earlier set
at Rs 2200.

Jaipur: It seems that
even the ‘mighty’ Ra-
jasthan bureaucracy
has failed to provide an
answertothequestions
haunting the future of
the Augusta helicopter
actually ‘decaying’
away. While, the gov-
ernment wants to get
rid of this helicopter as
soon as possible, how-
ever, no one is ready to
buy the machine even
at throwaway prices.
In 2006, the state gov-
ernment bought the
much talked-about Au-
gusta helicopter (A-
109E) for 20 crores. But
during the previous
tenure of Ashok Ge-
hlot, while flying to
Churu, there was a
sudden malfunction in
this aircraft. There-
fore, as an emergency
landing measure, the
helicopter had to be
landed on an agricul-
tural farm. Later, the
helicopter was loaded
into a truck and
brought to Jaipur and
since then it stands as
a ‘junk’ at the state
hangar.
Over the years, the
state government tried
several times to get rid
of this junk helicopter,
but success could not
be achieved. Interna-
tional tenders were
first issued for selling
it for 12.40 crore but no
buyers showed inter-
est in it.
Last month, its value
was reduced to Rs 4.5
crore and the bid date
was set as 4 September.
But no one showed any
interest even on this
date. Interestingly, over
the past nine years, it is
said that three lakh ru-
pees annually are be-
ing spent on the main-
tenanceof themachine
but in truth not a single
penny is being spent on
its maintenance.
While the govern-
ment is unable to un-
derstand how to get rid
of it as even the Scrap
Corporation has also
raised its hands, the of-
ficials are not left with
much choice than to
start a fresh bid for the
sale process, with little
hope that their prayers
would be answered.

With the plain sarees being a huge rage for years; City First gives you a few tips on how to carry off this‘plain’look extremely well!
A RIVER
OF NINE
YARDS
A RIVER
OF NINE
YARDS
This issue is sponsored by First India News International Pvt. Ltd.
here is something un-
deniably graceful
about the plain saree
that continues to have
an alluring appeal
even today. It is like a
river of nine-yards- it
seems to flow smoothly from
one end to another, without
any pattern or embroidery,
and yet have the power to as-
tonish you with its never-end-
ing ooze. It’s like our endless
imaginations, running effort-
lessly towards the most sensu-
ous and glamorous looks;
ohhh.. and the curves!! The
plain Saree, that is without
any shapes or pattern is prob-
ably the oldest model of the
sarees, which has sustained
and is still fashionable and
trending today.
Like it or not we all love to
go plain and sober at times
and why not, after all, plain
sarees have not lost their
place from the fashion scene.
From accessories to blouse
choice, to saree borders, plain
sarees are fashion playfield
where you can run wild with
creativity. Even the ultra-glam
Bollywood divas have a bias
for eternally charming sa-
rees.
Plain saree can make any
woman look gorgeous, pro-
vided she drapes, matches and
carries it gracefully. Here are
a few tips, which will make
you look and feel gorgeous
even in a plain saree.
Play With Blouses: Blouses
can make or break your sari
look/style. You may pick the
best saree in the world, but if
you choose a wrong blouse
with it — poof, your look’s
gone! So play a little with
them. Brocade, Zari, Gota,
mirror work, fashionable
cuts, patchworks, sequins and
embroidery can change the
look of your outfit.
For instance, suppose you
are working women who love
aesthetic saree style, then
wearing your plain saree with
Kalamkari blouse will do the
work for you.
Contrasting Petticoat: Petti-
coats are no longer a mere
piece of garment to be worn
underneath the saree. You
could play with them a bit and
transform how your saree
looks. For instance, you can
give a plain black saree a me-
tallic twist by draping it over
a sequined metallic petticoat.
Size of Pins: Sure, they mat-
ter, while pins matter a lot, it
is important that one chooses
the size that does not show or
protrude through the fabric.
Level it Right: Sure, it mat-
ters, where the saree ends
matters as much as where it
begins! And so while you are
careful not to go too low below
the navel, make sure the saree
does not ride up too high as
well.
Heel to Seal The Look: Quite
frankly, you will simply ruin
your saree look with flats or
platforms and wedges. The
arch of the back takes away so
much of your bulk from the
torso that the difference is
dramatic. Your walk becomes
in tune with the look.

value of social media?
There has always been
social aspect to media.
Therefore, the central to
teaching social media, in
view of some academics,
should be to provide for an
understandingof howthese

actually performing jour-
nalism. Themainquestion,
therefore,arisesastohowto
incorporate social media
into curriculum of journal-

ment. The question is vital
in view of the wide use of
Social Media for Public Re-
lations and Publicity or
marketing.TheUniversity’s
stated objective is “how to
teach various aspects of so-
cial media to students that
enhances journalism”.
Social Media blurs line
between personal and pro-
fessional communications.
The HJU justifies introduc-
tion of MA-JMC: Social Me-
dia an Online Journalism
on the ground that “the
revolution in Information
Technology and the accom-
panied changes in medias-
cape have created new job
opportunities and alterna-
tive avenues of expression
for media professionals”.
Many consider it as a con-
tradictionbecausenew“job

dia may well push journal-
ists into marketing.
It is assumed that by inte-
gratingSocialMediaintoits
curricula HJU does not
mean a class on facebook,
tweeter, instagram or what-
sapp which most of the stu-
dents would have already
known inside out. Our un-
derstanding of teaching of
Social Media is that it
means how these tools can
be applied to enrich the
craft of reporting and pro-
ducing the news stories. It
also means that the univer-
sity students ultimately
grow into a kind of journal-
ists who can tell a story in
the best possible way.
It is widely recognized
that Social media has
changed the way of finding
and sharing the news for
both journalists and audi-
ences. The changes are cer-
tainly affecting journalistic
practices. Therefore, it is
quite essential that those
opting higher education in
journalism understand dif-
ferent social media plat-
forms and their current
uses and also their charac-
teristics and the market
forces behind them. This
teaching at the HJU should
makethestudentspursuing
higher education under-
stand the impact of Social
Media as a marketing tool
on the role of journalists. It
would be wiser to teach the
students the practical and
conceptual convergence be-
tween technologies, indus-
try, and modes of communi-
cations. Then only the uni-
versity curricula on Social
Media would help news me-
dia outlets and empower
journalists in formulating
strategies.

RAJENG/2019/77764 l Vol 2 l Issue No. 101 BAIL PLEA OF ACCUSED SWAPNA SURESH IN DIPLOMATIC BAGGAGE GOLD SMUGGLING CASE REJECTED P6 THE FILM INDUSTRY BEING FLOGGED BY SOCIAL MEDIA AND GOVERNMENT’S NON-SUPPORT: JAYA IN PARLIAMENT OUR EDITIONS: JAIPUR & AHMEDABAD Gaon-gaon, shehar-shehar, make corona awareness a social movement: CM Naresh Sharma/Vishal Jaipur: The increasing co- rona infection can be com- pletely controlled if every person takes corona pan- demic seriously and man- datorily wears a mask, maintains social distanc- ing and fully abides by the health protocol. There is a need to raise awareness to- wards corona in a form of social movement. This was a prominent outcome of the open plat- form discussion ‘Dialogue on Corona Awareness’ of expert doctors with the people of Rajasthan up to thepanchayatlevelthrough a video conference from the Chief Minister’s residence on Tuesday. The event was telecast live through more than 8,000 e-mitra plus centres and webcast along with the broadcast through regional TV channels, social media platforms like Facebook, YouTube etc, and more than two lakh people saw the live telecast. State Cabinet Members, MPs, MLAs, Administra- tive and Police Officers, Turn to P6 CM Ashok Gehlot, along with Raghu Sharma, Rajeeva Swarup, Kuldeep Ranka, Niranjan Arya, Akhil Arora, Abhay Kumar, Vaibhav Galriya, Mahendra Soni and others, interacting with doctors including Dr Naresh Trehan (on screen). CM HOLDS OPEN PLATFORM DIALOGUE WITH EXPERT DOCTORS ON CORONA AWARENESS New Delhi: A private channel’s TV show pitched as an expose on a “conspiracy of Mus- lim infiltration in gov- ernment service’’ was put on hold on Tuesday by the Supreme Court bench consisting Jus- tice DY Chandrachud and Justice KM Joseph, which made very strong remarks on the state of the electronic media. The judges called for a panel of five distin- guished citizens to come up with standards for electronic media. Turn to P6 It’s all about TRPs: SC comes down heavily on electronic media ‘WANT PEACE, READY FOR WAR’ New Delhi: Firmly ar- ticulating the country’s position on the tense border row with China in eastern Ladakh, De- fence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said Beijing has been very clearly conveyed that any attempt to “unilat- erally” change the sta- tus quo along the Line of Actual Control is not at all acceptable, and that India’s armed forc- es are ready to deal with “all contingencies” in the high-altitude region. Making a statement in Lok Sabha, Singh said he would not hesi- tate to share that India is facing a “challenge” in Ladakh but at the same time added that the House should have “full confidence” that the armed forces will always rise to the chal- lenge and make the country proud. “I will not hesitate to share with this august House that we are fac- ing a challenge in Ladakh and I urge the House to pass a resolu- tion in support of our armed forces who have been defending our motherland at great heights and most in- clement weather condi- tions,” he said. Referrin to the Gal- wan Valley clashes of June 15, the defence minister said Indian soldiers “inflicted costs including casualties on the Chinese side.” Singh also referred to his talks with the Chi- nese defence minister on the sidelines of a multilateral meet in Moscow recently, and said it was made clear to him that though India wants to resolve the row peacefully, there should be no doubt about its de- termination to protect its sovereignty and ter- ritorial integrity. Turn to P6 Taming the Dragon! India equipped for all situations, Rajnath assures House Defence Minister Rajnath Singh makes a statement on India-China border issue, in Lok Sabha during the Monsoon Session of the Parliament on Tuesday. —PHOTO BY ANI  The comments being viewed by many in context with criticism of Sushant death investigations by a section of the media SC: ‘BINDAS BOL’ PROGRAMME APPEARS TO VILIFY MUSLIMS The Supreme Court Tuesday stayed the telecast of episodes of Sudarshan TV’s show ‘Bindas Bol’, saying at this stage, prima facie it does appear the programme “vilifies the Muslim community”. Terming it as a “rabid programme”, the court also restrained Sudarshan TV from telecasting the programme on Tuesday and Wednesday while adjourning the matter to September 17. 1 The problem with the electronic media is all about TRPs, leading to more and more sensational- ism, damage reputation of people and masquerade as form of right 2 The power of electronic media is huge. It can become a focal point by targeting particular community or groups 3 Such allegations (Muslims infiltrating civil services) are without factual basis; Can such programmes be allowed in a free society? 4 Reputations can be damaged; image can be tarnished. How to control this? The state cannot do this 5 The edifice of a stable democratic society and constitutional rights and duties are based on the coexistence of communities 6 We need to look at the ownership of the visual media. Entire shareholding pattern of the company must be public. If the government is putting more advertisements in one and less in another 7 Media can’t fall foul of standards prescribed by themselves. One needs to see the role of anchor The percentage of time taken by the anchor to speak 8 When we talk about journalistic freedom, it is not absolute. A journalist shares the same freedom as other citizens 9 Let the best within the nation suggest measures which we can help debate on our platform and then arrive at standards. Now an anchor is targeting one community 10 No programme that creates communal disharmony can be aired TOP 10 QUOTES Chinese troops in depth areas across Arunachal noticed New Delhi: After the Chinese Army’s at- tempts to occupy dor- mant heights in South- ern Pangong Tso area were foiled by the Indi- an security forces, In- dian agencies are keep- ing a close watch on their movements oppo- site other sectors, espe- cially Arunachal Pradesh, where the Peo- ple’s Liberation Army has been moving troops in the depth areas. Sources said the movement of Chinese troops in their depth ar- eas opposite the Asaph- ila area, and also oppo- site the Tuting axis and the Fish Tail-2 (around 20 kms from Line of Actual Control) has been seen in the last few days. Looking at the Chi- nese activities in the area, the Indian side has also strengthened its positions on the Line of Actual Control in all the sectors. —ANI Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu calls on Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, in New Delhi. CM Khandu on Tuesday evening announced that he has tested corona positive. A strict vigil is being main- tained in al- most all the sectors with China from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh as the Chinese suffered a setback in the southern Pangong Tso area and may try to make fresh attempts to ingress into newer dormant areas —Govt Sources The conduct of our armed forces throughout these incidents shows that while they maintained ‘Sayyam’ (self-control) in the face of provocative actions, they also equally displayed ‘Shaurya’ (cour- age) when required to protect the territorial integrity of India —Rajnath Singh, Defence Minister CHINA IN ILLEGAL OCCUPATION OF 38,000 SQ KM OF OUR LAND China continues to be in an illegal occupation of 38,000 sq. km in Ladakh, Union defence minister told the Parliament on Tuesday. The Union defence minister also told the Parliament: “China claims 90,000 sq km of Indian territory in Eastern Sector of the India-China boundary in Arunachal Pradesh.” “In addition, under the so-called Sino-Pakistan ‘Boundary Agreement’ of 1963, Pakistan illegally ceded 5,180 sq km of Indian territory in PoK to China,” Singh said. WE ALL STAND SHOULDER TO SHOULDER WITH OUR FORCES Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that India is ready to deal with any situation regarding the India-China border tensions. “I request this house to pass a resolution that we stand shoulder to shoulder with our armed forces guarding our borders to safeguard India’s sovereignty and integrity,” Singh said in the Lok Sabha. INDIA HAS MADE ADEQUATE DEPLOYMENTS ALONG LAC Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that the Chinese have mobilised a large number of troops and armaments along LAC and asserted that Indian armed forces have made adequate counter deployments. As of now, their side has mobilized a large number of troops along the LAC and in depth areas. There are several friction areas in Eastern Ladakh including Gogra, Kongka La and North & South Banks of Pangong Lake.  Gehlot makes citizens part of Corona Awareness Dialogue through unique initiative of linking common man upto panchayats through live telecast  Doctors’ advise ‘No Mask, No Entry’ policy to everyone Indian Army strengthens positions TRANSFER BAN LIFTED Dr Rituraj Sharma Jaipur: In a late night development, Gehlot government lifted the ban on the transfer of state government employees with immediate effect, but only till October 31, 2020. The move brings some cheers to ministers, Congress MLAs and lakhs of to be affected and beneficiary employees. P5

Generally the trains are over- crowded from Navratra to post Diwali & Chhath festival. As per railway records most trains are running with packed capacity while some trains have a long waiting list as well. Exception are those trains which are running on unortho- dox routes such as Jaipur-Prayag Raj and Jaipur-Jabalpur which have less passenger load. According to a view had the Marudhar Ex- press for Varanasi and Puja Express for Jam- mu Tawi been started then it would have had far more passengers load. The special trains run by railway for JEE/NEET aspirants finished their running schedule on Tuesday and never had full oc- cupancy. Now the need of the hour is to have trains considering the festival passenger crowd set too travel 17 September onwards. The existing number of trains on present routes will not be able to cater to the passen- ger load expected until November end. Rail- way management, which has been incur- ring losses due to low passenger load during rising coronavirus pandemic times be- cause passengers did not move anywhere out, the opportunity to ring its cash registers if it starts trains bound for Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal etc immediately. Editor: Jagdeesh Chandra, responsible for selection of news under the PRB Act hroughout an- tiquity, from the Mediterranean to Egypt and to- day’s Middle East, people believed that misfortune, including acci- dents, diseases, and some- times even death, were caused by external forces. Be they gods or other types of supernatural forc- es (such as a daimon), peo- ple — regardless of faith — sought magical means of protection against them. While medicine and sci- ence were not absent in antiquity, they competed with entrenched systems of magic and the wide- spread recourse to it. Peo- ple consulted professional magicians and also prac- tised their own forms of folk magic. Possibly derived from the Latin word “amoliri”, meaning “to drive away” or “to avert”, amulets were believed to possess inher- ent magical qualities. These qualities could be naturally intrinsic (such as the properties of a par- ticular stone) or imbued artificially with the assis- tance of a spell. Not surprisingly the use of amulets was an integral part of life. From jewellery and embellishments on buildings, to papyri in- scribed with spells, and even garden ornaments, they were deemed effective forms of protection. Amulets have been around for thousands of years. Amber pendants fromDenmark’sMesolithic age (10,000-8,000 BC) seem to have been worn as a form of generic protection. Jewelleryandornaments referencing the figure of the scarab beetle were also popular all-purpose amu- lets in Egypt, dating from thebeginningof theMiddle Kingdom (2000 BC). Two of the most com- mon symbols of protection are the eye and the phal- lus. One or both amulet designs appear in many contexts, providing protec- tion of the body (in the form of jewellery), a build- ing (as plaques on exterior walls), a tomb (as an in- scribed motif), and even a baby’s crib (as a mobile or crib ornament). In Greece and the Middle East, for example, the evil eye has a history stretching back thousands of years. Today the image adorns the streets, buildings and even trees of villages. The magic behind the evil eye is based on the be- lief that malevolence can be directed towards an in- dividual through a nasty glare. Accordingly, a “fake” eye, or evil eye, absorbs the malicious intention in place of the target’s eye. In the context of “magi- cal thinking”, amulets may be dismissed by critical thinkers of all persua- sions, but they remain in use throughout the world. Often combined with sci- ence and common sense, but not always, amulets have made a resurgence during the COVID-19 pan- demic. The amulets are equally as diverse, coming in all shapes and sizes, and promoted by politicians, religious leaders and so- cial influencers. A traditional form of adornment and protection in Javanese culture, now popular with tourists, “burnt root” bracelets, known as “akar bahar”, have been sold by commu- nity shamans. Indonesia’s Agriculture Minister Syah- rul Yasin Limpo, mean- while, has promoted an aro- matherapy necklace con- taining a eucalyptus potion touted as a preventative against COVID (useless in terms of science but per- haps less dangerous than hydroxychloroquine). Ltd. ften considered as soft pow- er, art, and culture, in all its dimensions, is in effect, strong, resilient, elevating moods and thoughts, heal- ing in times of difficulties and empowering all, a su- perpower indeed. From the earliest times, men and women have built shelters and homes, workplaces, roads, railways, airports and modes of transport, schools and col- leges, palaces and forts, shops, and markets, auditoriums and theatres: but nothing is com- plete, even after foolproof con- struction, without aesthetics and decorations, objects of beauty and the sounds of music and the rivetting steps of danc- ing. We are well aware that along with science and technol- ogy, the paintings, decorations raise even the most ordinary utilitarian items to those of charm and joy. A painted lattu is as thrilling an item for a young child as a car or vehicle toy which moves electronically or even mechanically. Art and culture is our treasure and power for the well being and development of the individual and socie- ty. As different communi- ties, societies, nations, coun- tries and the people initiated varied forms of music, dance, painting, architec- ture, sculpture over the cen- turies, the world today is extremely rich in this herit- age. Its protection and con- tinuation become a chal- lenge as there is almost infi- nite variety and space and time and the systems re- quired for it cannot be calcu- lated. Yet when we lose some of the art due to the passage of time it feels sad and there is a feeling of remorse and helplessness. Hence it is im- portant for any generation to understand and take for- ward what has come to them from their parents, grand- parents, and ancestors who have lived before us. So how can this be done even as we often race against time for other activities essential for our survival and growth? In the first place, we need to realise that we do not need to reinvent the wheel, as already there are a large number of schools, col- leges, universities, and institu- tions specially devoted to dif- ferent arts and crafts who are carrying on this mission. Moreover today with record- ings and electronic and digital capturing of performances, it is easier to store this kind of rich talent. It is not that all in- stitutions are of the same level and quality, yet with sharing of knowledge the performances have reached a wider audience than ever before. Thus one of the best ways to retain the fin- est of our art is to continue the improvement of these institu- tions and build new ones where required, especially ensuring that their location is as spread out as possible and not concen- trated in a few cities or towns. In modern times people and more so students are of- ten in a hurry and a rush to learn and perform, thereby missing out important as- pects of art and not reaching higher levels. The transfer of knowledge remains un- fulfilled. No doubt when people’s livelihoods are in- volved it is difficult to be pa- tient but as drawings and paintings, music and dance touch the heart and soul and even work as an effective medicine, the goal must al- ways remain to move to- wards perfection in whatev- er way one interprets it. Further, it is extremely im- portant to realise why we need to focus on artists and perform- ers and encourage them in all possible ways for ultimately their success will depend on its understanding, appreciation by the people. Nobody would like to perform or dance to a lit- tle filled theatre or to paint and do sculpture without a pas- serby enjoying it, Therefore the link between the performer and the audience is extremely vital to maintain the strength and vitality of art and culture. As much as the artist it is the audience and the viewers that matter, or rather, matter even more. Putting people first, a concept developed by Robert Chambers in Development Thinking is even more impor- tant in this the field for without a Daad there is no Mushaira and without the clapping or foot tapping, music, and dance does not one into its own. It is evident that art and culture has to be a way of life, embodied in our civili- sation, both as a daily as well as a special routine. The decorations, the pujas, the festivals at home are as important as the profession- al performances; in fact, they greatly reinforce each other and have a multiplier effect. Thus, art and culture is the power that benefits the society without costing too much; it is an economi- cal way to improve the qual- ity of life, build relation- ships, and to show the re- spect due to those who devel- oped these forms. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL ART AND CULTURE NOT SOFT BUT A SUPER POWER O It is evident that art and culture has to be a way of life, embodied in our civilisation, both as a daily as well as a special routine. Are some departments and their problems ‘tailor made’ for a select few bureaucrats since it is after these officials join in, that there is a sudden change in the department’s fortunes? Or is it that there are only a handful of officials who actually want to bring in a change by taking on challenges. Well, it might not completely be one or the other way, rather a mix of both the aspects. Take for example the case of Rajasthan Housing Board which the previous government had even thought of shutting down, but with Pawan Arora at helm, the board has not only had a miraculous revival but has also been for biggest revenue generator for the Rajasthan government. And it appears that even the Jaipur Development Authority is headed on the same ‘road to recovery’. Marred with financial woes, JDA did not even have money to pay to it’s staff members at one point, however after Gaurav Goyal took over the charge, it appears that ‘Achche Din’ are truly here. Only in the past month of August, the JDA has earned a whopping 80 crore rupees. Motivated by it’s revenue generation, the Authority has now set itself a target of 280 crore rupees till October 2020. This has been achieved though announcing a new scheme wherein eleven thousand people have registered for 1200 plots. While work is going on in full swing, the JDA has already paid it’s overdraft of 40 crore rupees however the challenge of paying the long term loan is still very much alive but even the babus posted in JDA have suddenly become hopeful that they can overcome this challenge as well! Coincidence or sheer hard work? You decide! —Abhishek Srivastava SACHIN PILOT FOR AICC SPOKESPERSON? Will the AICC’s spokesperson be changed? Will it be a face from Rajasthan who will be given this responsibility? Questions like these are floating around in party and power circles of Jaipur and New Delhi. The reason: appointment of national spokesperson Randeep Surjewala as General Secretary Incharge of Karnataka. There is a strong preception in the party’s circle in New Delhi that Deependra Hudda or Pawan Khera could be given the role. However, Sachin Pilot is being considered a stronger candidate for the position of national spokesperson. Although there are rumours that Sachin, spread by Pilot camp MLAs, has declined taking any position and wants to stay in Rajasthan only, however there is an even powerful “mill” in Delhi that claims that nothing of this sort has been finalised and Pilot could be given the job of national spokesperson due to his command on English and Hindi. However, the same mill also claims in the same breath that Margaret Alva’s son - Nikhil Alva, currently handling Rahul Gandhi’s media management - could also be given the position. —Aditi Nagar Gaurav Goyal Mom kills self, 3 kids in Bharatpur First India Bureau Jaipur: A woman killed self and her three daughters by jumping along with then into a well in Roopwas area of Ra- jasthan’s Bhartpur dis- trict on Tuesday. After the BMC de- molished what it termed as illegal al- terations at the “Queen” actor’s bun- galow at Pali Hill in suburban Bandra on September 9, Ranaut moved HC. A division bench led by Justice SJ Kathawalla had stayed the demoli- tion, saying that the civic body’s actions seemed “malafide” (having dubious in- tentions). In her amended plea, Ranaut alleged that the BMC’s deci- sion to demolish her property was a direct consequence of her comments against the Maharashtra government. The petition also contended that the Bollywood actor had sought the BMC’s permission to carry out structural re- pairs at her bunga- low, and the same was granted in 2018. The plea urged the court to declare the BMC’s action as ille- gal and direct the civic body and its “concerned officials” to pay her Rs 2 crore in damages. The court is slated to hear the matter on September 22. —Agencies Dear Rhea, with love! The frenzied coverage of the case against Chakraborty, 28, and mob- bing of the actor and her family by sections of the media have been widely criticised by Bollywood personalities and a large section of social media users. The letter, ad- dressedtothe“news media of India”, be- gins with a ques- tion: “We, are wor- ried about you. Are you feeling ok?” “We know you can be different - because we have seen you be kind and respectful to the Salman Khans and Sanjay Dutts of this world, urging us to think of their families, fans and careers. But, when it comes to a young woman who has not even been proven to commit any crime, you have assassinated her character, egged an on- line mob on demonise her and her f a m i l y , fuelled wrong- ful demands and called her arrest your victory,” the open letter states. Images of Rhea pushed and shoved by me- dia crews, with no re- gard for so- cial dis- t a n c i n g , have drawn widespread condemnation. The signatories of the open letter said the news me- dia chose to “end- lessly violate her privacy and work overtime on false accu- sations and moralistic innuendo for a drama of ‘Rhea ko phasao’”. • 9. Aditi Nagar Jaipur: A much awaited 90 minutes long meeting be- tween AICC Ra- jasthan Incharge Ajay Maken and the Congress leader Sachin Pilot has vir- tually failed to make any breakthrough on certain sensitive po- litical issues in an ongoing stalemate scenario. This was perhaps the second meeting between the two leaders, where they had already met on 13th September also. According to sources, Pilot emphatically and effectively put up and argued his viewpoint on all the related issues in- cluding an ongoing de- lay in the submission of three member commit- tee report to Congress President and obviously a subsequent delay in the finalization of cabi- net reshuffle and politi- cal appointments. Pilot also reportedly raised the issues of his con- cern about five per- cent Gurjar reserva- tion, the likely vaca- tion of his own, Vish- vendra and Ramesh Meena’s government bungalows, once they have lost the status of deputy CM and cabinet ministers respectively. There are already serious ‘ideological differenc- es’ over the comeback of two Pilot camp min- isters i.e. Vishvendra Singh and Ramesh Meena in the next cabinet re- s h u f f l e . T h o u g h t h e r e were ab- solutely no ‘pre-condi- tions’ for Pilot’s ‘home- coming’, but still it is believed that with a view to take everyone along, Congress high command and CM Ashok Gehlot may agree to give two or three positions to re- bel MLAs. On the PCC front also, Pilot camp is insisting to have proper rep- resentation in the PCC’s likely re- structuring in the coming days. Pilot also report- edly submitted a list of few names, which may be re- lated to impending cabinet reshuffle, po- litical appointments and ‘sharing of pow- er’ in PCC. Pilot also assured Maken of a likely massive Congress win in the upcoming Panchayati election. According to a highly reliable input, the main reason for the failure of the meeting is Maken and Pilot’s all together ‘different views’ on the functioning of Ge- hlot government, where Maken, like Avi- nash Pande, has also emerged as the princi- pal spokesperson of a performing and merito- rious CM Gehlot in front of the Congress high command. Only three days back, after having a detailed re- view of Corona situa- tion in the state, Maken had publicly rated Gehlot as the best all India Corona per- former. But at the same time, Pilot has his own phi- losophy and views on the performance of the present government in the state. A 90-minute-long Maken-Pilot meet fails to make any breakthrough Simplification in this global world is necessary. We must eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary is given space in our thoughts and life. —Jagdeesh Chandra, CEO & Editor, First India JAIPUR | WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2020www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epaper/ I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia 08 2NDFRONTPOSTAL REG NO. An infected person can also put a large number of other people’s lives at risk. Naresh Sharma Jaipur: Hours after holding an important online session for cre- ating awareness among masses related to Co- rona, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot called upon the people of the state to take a pledge of ‘No Mask, No Entry’ in public places, roads, mar- kets, workplaces, re- ligious places, public transport, social events etc. “This is the most ef- fective way to prevent corona infection. Dur- ing the Corona Aware- ness Dialogue on Tues- day, eminent medical experts of the country have also given the same message. Vari- ous social, commu- nity and mass organ- izations should lead the campaign to ful- fill this resolution,” Gehlot said while ad- dressing a review meeting on Corona pandemic at the Chief Minister’s residence on Tuesday. “In this pandemic, protecting others is possible only by pro- tecting oneself. An in- fected person can also put a large num- ber of other people’s lives at risk. In such a situation, everyone can succeed together to prevent the spread of corona virus in- fection,” he said. Gehlot called upon the resolution of ‘No Mask, No Entry’ to be faithfully done for at least the next 4 weeks. The Chief Minister directed officials to make special efforts to achieve the goal of wearing masks in crowded places, keeping proper dis- tance and effective adherence to other health protocols. He said that along with the police, other departments have also been given the respon- sibility of maintaining the health protocol. In such a situation, all of- ficers must take active participation in this campaign. He instruct- ed to prepare for the availability of one lakh beds for the coming days in the event of in- creasing infection. “Officers of the con- cerned departments should periodically re- view the activities per- mitted under unlock to ensure that there is no risk of infection of co- rona from any activity. If an activity in- creases the likeli- hood of the corona virus spreading, a partial or complete ban may be consid- ered,” Gehlot said. He gave instructions to keep the attendance limit for family and so- cial events at 50 from September 21 and strictly follow the rules of wearing masks and proper distance. Meanwhile, pro- viding a major relief to the peole of state, Medical and Health Minister Dr Raghu Sharma, on Tuesday, said that the rate of examination of co- rona in private hos- pitals and laborato- ries in the state has been reduced from to Rs 1200 per sample, which was earlier set at Rs 2200. CM Ashok Gehlot First India News Jaipur: The Rajasthan government has formed the Rajasthan State Mineral Exploration Trust (RSMET) for ef- fective execution and monitoring of mineral exploration, use of modern technology in exploration and to en- hance revenue. The trust chaired by the mines minister Pramod Jain Bhaya has nine governing body members.Aseven-mem- berexecutivecommittee headed by the Addition- al Chief Secretary mines Dr Subodh Agar- wal has also been set up. Bhaya said that chief minister Ashok Gehlot has made a short, mid and long term policy for the use of modern tech- nology for survey, ex- ploration and mining of abundant mineral wealth in the state and to get maximum reve- nue. He informed that a laboratory for research will be set up. Kartikey Dev Singh Jaipur: It seems that even the ‘mighty’ Ra- jasthan bureaucracy has failed to provide an answertothequestions haunting the future of the Augusta helicopter actually ‘decaying’ away. While, the gov- ernment wants to get rid of this helicopter as soon as possible, how- ever, no one is ready to buy the machine even at throwaway prices. In 2006, the state gov- ernment bought the much talked-about Au- gusta helicopter (A- 109E) for 20 crores. But during the previous tenure of Ashok Ge- hlot, while flying to Churu, there was a sudden malfunction in this aircraft. There- fore, as an emergency landing measure, the helicopter had to be landed on an agricul- tural farm. Later, the helicopter was loaded into a truck and brought to Jaipur and since then it stands as a ‘junk’ at the state hangar. Over the years, the state government tried several times to get rid of this junk helicopter, but success could not be achieved. Interna- tional tenders were first issued for selling it for 12.40 crore but no buyers showed inter- est in it. Last month, its value was reduced to Rs 4.5 crore and the bid date was set as 4 September. But no one showed any interest even on this date. Interestingly, over the past nine years, it is said that three lakh ru- pees annually are be- ing spent on the main- tenanceof themachine but in truth not a single penny is being spent on its maintenance. While the govern- ment is unable to un- derstand how to get rid of it as even the Scrap Corporation has also raised its hands, the of- ficials are not left with much choice than to start a fresh bid for the sale process, with little hope that their prayers would be answered. A RIVER OF NINE YARDS A RIVER OF NINE YARDS This issue is sponsored by First India News International Pvt. Ltd. here is something un- deniably graceful about the plain saree that continues to have an alluring appeal even today. It is like a river of nine-yards- it seems to flow smoothly from one end to another, without any pattern or embroidery, and yet have the power to as- tonish you with its never-end- ing ooze. It’s like our endless imaginations, running effort- lessly towards the most sensu- ous and glamorous looks; ohhh.. and the curves!! The plain Saree, that is without any shapes or pattern is prob- ably the oldest model of the sarees, which has sustained and is still fashionable and trending today. Like it or not we all love to go plain and sober at times and why not, after all, plain sarees have not lost their place from the fashion scene. From accessories to blouse choice, to saree borders, plain sarees are fashion playfield where you can run wild with creativity. Even the ultra-glam Bollywood divas have a bias for eternally charming sa- rees. Plain saree can make any woman look gorgeous, pro- vided she drapes, matches and carries it gracefully. Here are a few tips, which will make you look and feel gorgeous even in a plain saree. Play With Blouses: Blouses can make or break your sari look/style. You may pick the best saree in the world, but if you choose a wrong blouse with it — poof, your look’s gone! So play a little with them. Brocade, Zari, Gota, mirror work, fashionable cuts, patchworks, sequins and embroidery can change the look of your outfit. For instance, suppose you are working women who love aesthetic saree style, then wearing your plain saree with Kalamkari blouse will do the work for you. Contrasting Petticoat: Petti- coats are no longer a mere piece of garment to be worn underneath the saree. You could play with them a bit and transform how your saree looks. For instance, you can give a plain black saree a me- tallic twist by draping it over a sequined metallic petticoat. Size of Pins: Sure, they mat- ter, while pins matter a lot, it is important that one chooses the size that does not show or protrude through the fabric. Level it Right: Sure, it mat- ters, where the saree ends matters as much as where it begins! And so while you are careful not to go too low below the navel, make sure the saree does not ride up too high as well. Heel to Seal The Look: Quite frankly, you will simply ruin your saree look with flats or platforms and wedges. The arch of the back takes away so much of your bulk from the torso that the difference is dramatic. Your walk becomes in tune with the look. KARISHMA GWALANI karishma.gwalani@firstindia.co.in T

Rajendra Bora , Senior Journalist e - e s t a b l i s h e d HaridevJoshiUni- versity of Journal- ism and Mass Communications (HJU), under the leadership of not- ed working journalist Om Thanvi as its first Vice- Chancellor, istakingseveral innovative steps to suit the changed media scenario in thedigitalera.Theforemost amongthemisintroduction of Master’s degree in Social Media and Online Journal- ism. When the traditional media outlets. particularly print media, are fast losing their shine and the web- based communications are gaining ground fast in the market based economy it is appropriate that the new university, a pet project of Chief Minister Ashok Ge- hlot, devisesthenewcourse Social Media is a new phenomenon.Itisnormally considered as personal ac- tivity rather than a part of journalistic activity. We be- lieve that the university’s academic core group must have delved into the ques- tionwhatistheprofessional value of social media? There has always been social aspect to media. Therefore, the central to teaching social media, in view of some academics, should be to provide for an understandingof howthese digitaltoolsaffectthewayin actually performing jour- nalism. Themainquestion, therefore, arisesastohowto incorporate social media into curriculum of journal- ism in academic environ- ment. The question is vital in view of the wide use of Social Media for Public Re- lations and Publicity or marketing.TheUniversity’s stated objective is “how to teach various aspects of so- cial media to students that enhances journalism”. Social Media blurs line between personal and pro- fessional communications. The HJU justifies introduc- tion of MA-JMC: Social Me- dia an Online Journalism on the ground that “the revolution in Information Technology and the accom- panied changes in medias- cape have created new job opportunities and alterna- tive avenues of expression for media professionals”. Many consider it as a con- tradictionbecausenew“job opportunities”inSocialMe- dia may well push journal- ists into marketing. It is assumed that by inte- gratingSocialMediaintoits curricula HJU does not mean a class on facebook, tweeter, instagram or what- sapp which most of the stu- dents would have already known inside out. Our un- derstanding of teaching of Social Media is that it means how these tools can be applied to enrich the craft of reporting and pro- ducing the news stories. It also means that the univer- sity students ultimately grow into a kind of journal- ists who can tell a story in the best possible way. It is widely recognized that Social media has changed the way of finding and sharing the news for both journalists and audi- ences. The changes are cer- tainly affecting journalistic practices. Therefore, it is quite essential that those opting higher education in journalism understand dif- ferent social media plat- forms and their current uses and also their charac- teristics and the market forces behind them. This teaching at the HJU should makethestudentspursuing higher education under- stand the impact of Social Media as a marketing tool on the role of journalists. It would be wiser to teach the students the practical and conceptual convergence be- tween technologies, indus- try, and modes of communi- cations. Then only the uni- versity curricula on Social Media would help news me- dia outlets and empower journalists in formulating strategies.
