Reserve Bank keeps policy repo
rate unchanged as inflation softens
ANI
Mumbai
The Reserve Bank of In-
dia’s monetary policy
committee unanimously
decided to keep the repo
rate unchanged at 6.5%.
The repo rate is the
rate of interest at which
RBI lends to other banks.
A consistent decline in
inflation (currently at an
18-month low) and its
potential for further de-
cline may have prompted
the central bank to put
the brake on the key in-
terest rate again.
Most analysts had ex-
pected the RBI to contin-
ue to keep the repo rate
unchanged. Inflation has
been a concern for many
countries, including ad-
vancedones,butIndiahas
managed to steer its infla-
tion trajectory quite well.

Caste wise and best

‘Vasundhara Factor’ in Rajasthan in

The BJP High
command is getting
'Vasundhara Factor'
evaluated in Rajasthan.
Many surveys have been
done about this earlier
also. In the latest C-Voter
survey, Vasundhara was
told the choice of 38%
people in the state. In this
whole scenario, a senior
BJP leader of Delhi made
a phone call to a senior
BJP leader of Rajasthan
posted in Delhi and asked
his election assessment
and especially the
assessment of Vasund-
hara factor. The leader
gave assurance that Bhai
Sahab will ensure victory
in Rajasthan and there is
nothing to worry about.
And after this, the caller
BJP leader was convinced

State BJP facing ‘Ek
Anar, Sau Bimar’
The State BJP is
facing the proverb of
‘Ek Anar Sau Bimar’.
There are many contend-
ers for tickets in every
assembly constituency. In
many places, there are 2
or 3 senior leaders vying
for the ticket with the
blessing of senior leaders.
But only one contender will
get the ticket and in this
condition, it will not be
easy to convince the one
who will not be able to get
the ticket. This time, it will
not be so easy to manage
the rebels because there
are more contenders in
this assembly election
than in the last election.

SYMPTOMS
AND SIGNS
A constant feeling that some-
thing would go wrong hovers in
thoughts of such a person con-
stantly. There is extreme fear
of failure on a constant basis
that affects day to day working
of the affected person.
This anxiety, in turn, leads to
unhelpful behavior and aggres-
sion. The phobia may spread
in some other form as well like
fear of spiders or closed and
confined spaces. With time,
such people start believing that
their projects won’t succeed,
goals would not be achieved.
Atychiphobia is not an official
diagnosis but is one of the
phobias but procrastination
caused by this personality trait
interfere in decision making
even for trivial matters like
buying a shaving blade or or
ice cream bar. Lack of deci-
siveness ultimately leads to
physical symptoms because of
a long period of stress.
n psychology,
there is a group
of problems re-
lated to state of
the mind issues
clustered together as specific
phobia. One of these problems
is called atychiphobia which
means a situation where a per-
son is perpetually under fear of
failure. Here, the affected per-
son is never sure of himself
even for most trivial things and
simplest of decisions. A con-
stant feeling that something
would go wrong hovers in
thoughts of such a person con-
stantly. There is extreme fear of
failure on a constant basis that
affects day to day working of
the affected person.
Such people tend to procras-
tinate. They go on postponing
and delaying even the minor
tasks of life leading to severe
degree of anxiety as the work-
sheet piles up. This anxiety, in
turn, leads to unhelpful behav-
ior and aggression. The fear
phobia may spread in some
other form as well like fear of
spiders or closed and confined
spaces. With time, such people
start believing that their pro-
jects won’t succeed, goals
would not be achieved. As a
result of this extreme negativ-
ity and consequent lack of ini-
tiative, depression might take
root in their lives.
Atychiphobia is not an offi-
cial diagnosis but is one of the
phobias but procrastination
caused by this personality trait
interfere in decision making
even for trivial matters like
buying a shaving blade or or
ice cream bar. Lack of deci-
siveness ultimately leads to
physical symptoms because of
a long period of stress. The af-
fected person may have faster
heart rate, faster and shallower
breathing, sweating and muscle
tension. Extreme anxiety dis-
rupts family relationships and
marital happiness. Lots of op-
portunities are missed and hob-
bies never materialize.
Social life and life at the
workplace both suffer signifi-
cantly because of persistent fear
of failure leading to inability to
decide. It should be noted that
fear of failure is not a psychia-
trist condition, it is a personal-
ity disorder. One shouldn’t rush
to a psychiatrist. It would al-
ways be better to introspect first
and find the underlying reason
for failure. One should try to
find the root cause of fear
which may be traced to child-
hood parenting or schooling.
Highly protected children or
those who are excessively mo-
tivated during early life are seen
to be more prone to fear of fail-
ure. Similarly, children or
young adults whose self esteem
was destroyed at home or out-
side, usually stay fearful of fail-
ure and unsure of their abilities.
It should be remembered
that failure too is an experi-
ence. Any form of achieve-
ment in life is a mixed brew
of success and failure. People
with negative past experi-
ences may carry many memo-
ries which make them fearful
for the rest of their life. Simi-
larly, role modeling one’s life
on some highly successful
person and then not achieving
it may also lead to fear of fail-
ure for a short or long period
of time. Highly motivational
childhood teaching may also
prove to be counterproductive
and so might do imprecation.
Both these extremes make a
person vulnerable to an inde-
cisive attitude.
As far as management of
atychiphobia is concerned it
has to be through talk treat-
ment by a very skilled counse-
lor. It is to be noted that coun-
seling in India is in its nascent
stage. Most of the counselors
base their therapy on monoto-
nous textbook models and
many of them are judgemental.
A counselor with wide reading
in philosophy and literary fic-
tion can be of good help to rid
a person of fear of failure. Talk
treatment is expensive and
may or may not help depend-
ing upon skill of the therapist
and willingness of the person
to reorient. As a result, a large
number of people take the easy
route of prescription tran-
quilizers. These medicines are
of limited actual value in case
of this psychological disorder
because they do not change the
underlying behavior issue and
as such might cause harm by
creating a false sense that all
is well.

Within a few hours of
CMAshok Gehlot chair-
ing a crime review meet-
ing at the PHQ on
Wednesday, the State
government shifted 20
IPS officers of which 15
have been posted as
OSD (Police) in newly
announced districts.
As per sources, after
the crime meeting held
on Wednesday, the CM
held a 15-minute meet-
ing with the DGP in his
chamber. After this dis-
cussion, 4 senior officers
were transferred and the
transfer of IPS Rahul
Prakash was canceled
from Bharatpur range to
Jaipur commissionerate.
During the crime meet-
ing, the CM also asked
many questions to the
DGP regarding the work
of the officers.
Two IPS were trans-
ferred for the second time
in 5 days. IG RAC Rupin-
der Singh was transferred
as Bharatpur Range IG
Rahul Prakash, who was
under transfer to Bharat-
pur as DIG on June 2, was

Jaipur
s the date of
June 30 is near-
ing with each
passing day, the entire
state buraucracy’s excite-
ment is increasing to find
out as to who will be the
new Chief Secretary that
will take over on July 1.
After spending 18
months at helm of the
state’s bureaucracy, Usha
Sharma’s innings, as
Chief Secretary, will cul-
minate on June 30.
According to the sen-
iority in the civil list of
IAS, the hierarchy is
listed herewith: Veenu
Gupta (1987 batch), Sub-
odh Agarwal (1988
batch), Shubhra Singh
(1989 batch), Rajeshwar
Singh (1989 batch), Ab-
hay Kumar (1992 batch)
and Akhil Arora (1993
batch) i.e. half a dozen
officers of five batches.
If seniority is given
preference in the selec-
tion of next CS, then
Veenu Gupta’s claim is
the biggest to the post.
But seniority plays little
role in the appointment
of CS and in the past, this
aspect has been over-
looked several times. As
regards hard work and
capability, Veenu Gupta
is at par with all other of-
ficials and additionally,
apart from being a wom-
an, she is a non-contro-
versial official, which is
a ‘plus-point’ for her.
However, the negative
point for her could be that
her husband DB Gupta
has been the Chief Secre-
tary in the current gov-
ernment itself and there
are still six months left to
Veenu’s retirement. In the
last IAS transfer list,
Veenu Gupta was given
the responsibility of a
major department like
Mines. In the previous
meeting chaired by CM
Ashok Gehlot on budget
announcement, the CM
had reportedly asked
Veenu Gupta to curb il-
legal mining any how.
Those in the know how of
bureaucracy claim that
this is an indication that
Guptawillnotbechanged
from the position.
The number two in
seniority - Subodh Agar-
wal - still has two and a
half years left to his re-
tirement. Becoming CS
right now, means a long
innings and in the current
situation, it seems im-
probable and if he will be
continued by the new
government that will
come to power after six
months, is also uncertain.
Subodh is a ‘hard task
master’and a ‘result- ori-
ented officer,’who has all
the capabilities needed
for becoming a CS.
The manner in which
suddenly Shubhra Singh
has been brought to
Jaipur from Delhi, has
given rise to the specula-
tion if she would be
crowned the next CS.
Otherwise, her ‘air-drop-
ping’ is beyond compre-
hension. But the biggest
minus point in her situa-
tion is that she has re-
turned to Jaipur after a
gap of 13 years and she is
completely in the dark
regarding the state gov-
ernment’s policies and
their implementation on
the ground and the
changes in bureaucracy
over the past 13 years.
Thus, handing over the
reins of bureaucracy in
the last six months of the
government, which are
the utmost crucial
months, is considered to
be an immense risk tak-
ing manoeuvre. It is also
being said that merely
being a senior woman of-
ficer is not enough.
The 1989 batch officer
Rajeshwar Singh is not
considered to be one of
the blue-eyed officers of
the state government and
he has been positioned in
Ajmer for the past two
years and sources reveal
that his chances of be-
coming the next CS are
absolutely ‘dim’.
The fifth official in sen-
iority is Abhay Kumar,
whose image is that of a
‘silent worker,’ a non-
controversial officer, who
finds alargeacceptancein
bureaucracy. He has held
the reins of important de-
partments like Finance
and Home, and while
serving asACS Home, he
has come across as a
‘trusted officer’ of the
state government. It is be-
ing speculated that since
in the May 1 transfer list
he was not changed, so he
may be ‘changed’ now!
Akhil Arora is current
CMAshok Gehlot’s most
trusted and close bureau-
crat. He has a huge role
in the state government’s
work and word is that not
even a leaf can move
without his advice or
suggestion in the govern-
ment and his position, as
is being visualised by
others, is not less than
that of CS. And if CM
Gehlot brings him to the
helm, it should not come
as a surprise!

Artists
To call a spade a spade needs courage and fearlessness.
Having said that, these attributes alone are sometimes
deficient. Many individuals and organizations may
embody these meritorious virtues but in the delivery of
messages; the absence of Art, or an Artistic Expres-
sion, can come across as dull, dense, boring, preachy
and indoctrinating. When a certain boldness meets
creative manifestation; that is what makes for a potent,
compelling, memorable and instigative voice. It is, for
instance, one thing for an individual to speak, on or
offline, and simply state facts, “Let us rise and fight
against social atrocities!” Contrast this with a Painter or
a Photographer who has chronicled instances of horrors
– A Muslim man being beaten unjustly and mercilessly
and titles the work, “Phobia”. It is plain to see, which
method or means will generate greater empathy and
impact. Therefore, I conclude that the first line of
defence ought to be our Art Community. Individuals
who observe our life and times in a nuanced, sensitive
way and interpret it in profound ways that leave last-
ing and indelible impressions on viewers observers,
necessitating action.

Initiatives
R
evolution is perpetu-
ated by a critical mass
movement, instigated
by a period of injus-
tice, propelled by a
yearning for change,
mobilized by one, or
a few, visionary leaders.
The quest for freedom, social po-
litical emancipation, may birth as a
slow burn, a minority churn. Like a
flame that can swiftly turn a fire, this
quiet unease too, can manifest into a
raging bull. Horns pointed and sharp.
Ready to charge. Puncture wounds into
the most armoured and impenetrable
shield of bigotry.
In my perception, the Bharat Jodo
Yatra embodied this spirit and has plat-
formed this essential sentiment.
The onus however, of keeping this
inertia going, and snowballing it into an
impactful movement that can realisti-
cally induce an antidote to an alarm-
ingly swift-proliferating virus of funda-
mentalist and extremist ideologies, is
on society. Within the construct of our
nation, I feel there are three distinct cat-
egories of citizens that ought to spear-
head this movement.
Citizens
Finally then, is us. You and I. The common citizen. I believe that apathy or
blind faith in any political dispensation is perhaps not the wisest approach.
We too, each one of us, needs to sift through the information and propagan-
da overload and develop the aptitude, will, and conviction to see through
the carefully constructed veil of progress that is being draped over our eyes.
Keep our eyes and ears open but display the discerning intellect to decipher
truth from projection, reality from perception, and wrong from a scripted
right. Each of us will need to join forces with the aforementioned two people
types. Lend our support in every way possible – financial, intellectual, physi-
cal, and philosophical. We owe it to our forefathers who fought relentlessly
to attain and gift us this ‘freedom’. We owe it to ourselves, citizens who work
tirelessly to contribute to our country and kin. And we most certainly owe
it to our children, who are, in any case, grappling with grave issues and
pressures, and are at the risk of inheriting a country that’s muddied by an
identity that is narrow, myopic, fanatical, isolating.
Journalists
Journalism is that non-negotiable, sanctimonious, essential
pillar of democracy. One that, it could be argued, has been
significantly compromised and diluted in recent times. One
that has the constitutional right and duty to investigate,
challenge, question, seek clarification and answers. Entire
news organizations and their incredibly brave and dedi-
cated men and women have been bought over, harassed,
threatened, incarcerated, forced to flee; any manner of
coercion and duress to prevent them from asking the ‘right’
questions, i.e., doing their jobs! It is, however, in this rather
grim and prevocational backdrop, an environment that
makes it nearly impossible for scribes to function, that we
NEED a new breed of their like, to rise. And I’m not suggest-
ing that there aren’t. There is a growing community of the
old established, that is taking the bulls by the horn. Like
dauntless matadors, they are standing firm in and despite
the imminent danger. So what’s lacking? A new breed. How
long and how hard will the generation before upholding
the torch and keep the journalistic flame burning? We need
a young breed of ethical, courageous, unimpeachable men
and women who are as much empaths, as they are staunch
seekers of the truth.
A new breed of freedom fighters must be birthed within
each and every one of us in order to take on the might
and methodology of the establishment. Only then, is
there the possibility of the much-needed revolution, an
emancipation, a rebirth!

There is extreme fear of failure on a constant basis that affects day to day working of the affected person. This anxiety, in turn, leads to unhelpful behavior and aggres- sion. The phobia may spread in some other form as well like fear of spiders or closed and confined spaces. With time, such people start believing that their projects won’t succeed, goals would not be achieved. Atychiphobia is not an official diagnosis but is one of the phobias but procrastination caused by this personality trait interfere in decision making even for trivial matters like buying a shaving blade or or ice cream bar. Lack of deci- siveness ultimately leads to physical symptoms because of a long period of stress. n psychology, there is a group of problems re- lated to state of the mind issues clustered together as specific phobia. One of these problems is called atychiphobia which means a situation where a per- son is perpetually under fear of failure. Here, the affected per- son is never sure of himself even for most trivial things and simplest of decisions. A con- stant feeling that something would go wrong hovers in thoughts of such a person con- stantly. There is extreme fear of failure on a constant basis that affects day to day working of the affected person. Such people tend to procras- tinate. They go on postponing and delaying even the minor tasks of life leading to severe degree of anxiety as the work- sheet piles up. This anxiety, in turn, leads to unhelpful behav- ior and aggression. The fear phobia may spread in some other form as well like fear of spiders or closed and confined spaces. With time, such people start believing that their pro- jects won’t succeed, goals would not be achieved. As a result of this extreme negativ- ity and consequent lack of ini- tiative, depression might take root in their lives. Atychiphobia is not an offi- cial diagnosis but is one of the phobias but procrastination caused by this personality trait interfere in decision making even for trivial matters like buying a shaving blade or or ice cream bar. Lack of deci- siveness ultimately leads to physical symptoms because of a long period of stress. The af- fected person may have faster heart rate, faster and shallower breathing, sweating and muscle tension. Extreme anxiety dis- rupts family relationships and marital happiness. Lots of op- portunities are missed and hob- bies never materialize. Social life and life at the workplace both suffer signifi- cantly because of persistent fear of failure leading to inability to decide. It should be noted that fear of failure is not a psychia- trist condition, it is a personal- ity disorder. One shouldn’t rush to a psychiatrist. It would al- ways be better to introspect first and find the underlying reason for failure. One should try to find the root cause of fear which may be traced to child- hood parenting or schooling. Highly protected children or those who are excessively mo- tivated during early life are seen to be more prone to fear of fail- ure. Similarly, children or young adults whose self esteem was destroyed at home or out- side, usually stay fearful of fail- ure and unsure of their abilities. It should be remembered that failure too is an experi- ence. Any form of achieve- ment in life is a mixed brew of success and failure. People with negative past experi- ences may carry many memo- ries which make them fearful for the rest of their life. Simi- larly, role modeling one’s life on some highly successful person and then not achieving it may also lead to fear of fail- ure for a short or long period of time. Highly motivational childhood teaching may also prove to be counterproductive and so might do imprecation. Both these extremes make a person vulnerable to an inde- cisive attitude. As far as management of atychiphobia is concerned it has to be through talk treat- ment by a very skilled counse- lor. It is to be noted that coun- seling in India is in its nascent stage. Most of the counselors base their therapy on monoto- nous textbook models and many of them are judgemental. A counselor with wide reading in philosophy and literary fic- tion can be of good help to rid a person of fear of failure. Talk treatment is expensive and may or may not help depend- ing upon skill of the therapist and willingness of the person to reorient. As a result, a large number of people take the easy route of prescription tran- quilizers. These medicines are of limited actual value in case of this psychological disorder because they do not change the underlying behavior issue and as such might cause harm by creating a false sense that all is well. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL I PSYCHOLOGY: FEAR OF FAILURE It should be noted that fear of failure is not a psychiatrist condition, it is a personality disorder. One shouldn’t rush to a psychiatrist. It would always be better to introspect first and find the underlying reason for failure. One should try to find the root cause of fear which may be traced to childhood parenting or schooling. Highly protected children or those who are excessively motivated during early life are seen to be more prone to fear of failure. Similarly, children or young adults whose self esteem was destroyed at home or outside, usually stay fearful of failure and unsure of their abilities. Dr Rituraj Sharma Jaipur Within a few hours of CMAshok Gehlot chair- ing a crime review meet- ing at the PHQ on Wednesday, the State government shifted 20 IPS officers of which 15 have been posted as OSD (Police) in newly announced districts. As per sources, after the crime meeting held on Wednesday, the CM held a 15-minute meet- ing with the DGP in his chamber. After this dis- cussion, 4 senior officers were transferred and the transfer of IPS Rahul Prakash was canceled from Bharatpur range to Jaipur commissionerate. During the crime meet- ing, the CM also asked many questions to the DGP regarding the work of the officers. Two IPS were trans- ferred for the second time in 5 days. IG RAC Rupin- der Singh was transferred as Bharatpur Range IG Rahul Prakash, who was under transfer to Bharat- pur as DIG on June 2, was transferred to Jaipur Po- lice Commissionerate as Addl CommissionerTraf- fic Administration. Rajendra Chhabra Jaipur s the date of June 30 is near- ing with each passing day, the entire state buraucracy’s excite- ment is increasing to find out as to who will be the new Chief Secretary that will take over on July 1. After spending 18 months at helm of the state’s bureaucracy, Usha Sharma’s innings, as Chief Secretary, will cul- minate on June 30. According to the sen- iority in the civil list of IAS, the hierarchy is listed herewith: Veenu Gupta (1987 batch), Sub- odh Agarwal (1988 batch), Shubhra Singh (1989 batch), Rajeshwar Singh (1989 batch), Ab- hay Kumar (1992 batch) and Akhil Arora (1993 batch) i.e. half a dozen officers of five batches. If seniority is given preference in the selec- tion of next CS, then Veenu Gupta’s claim is the biggest to the post. But seniority plays little role in the appointment of CS and in the past, this aspect has been over- looked several times. As regards hard work and capability, Veenu Gupta is at par with all other of- ficials and additionally, apart from being a wom- an, she is a non-contro- versial official, which is a ‘plus-point’ for her. However, the negative point for her could be that her husband DB Gupta has been the Chief Secre- tary in the current gov- ernment itself and there are still six months left to Veenu’s retirement. In the last IAS transfer list, Veenu Gupta was given the responsibility of a major department like Mines. In the previous meeting chaired by CM Ashok Gehlot on budget announcement, the CM had reportedly asked Veenu Gupta to curb il- legal mining any how. Those in the know how of bureaucracy claim that this is an indication that Guptawillnotbechanged from the position. The number two in seniority - Subodh Agar- wal - still has two and a half years left to his re- tirement. Becoming CS right now, means a long innings and in the current situation, it seems im- probable and if he will be continued by the new government that will come to power after six months, is also uncertain. Subodh is a ‘hard task master’and a ‘result- ori- ented officer,’who has all the capabilities needed for becoming a CS. The manner in which suddenly Shubhra Singh has been brought to Jaipur from Delhi, has given rise to the specula- tion if she would be crowned the next CS. Otherwise, her ‘air-drop- ping’ is beyond compre- hension. But the biggest minus point in her situa- tion is that she has re- turned to Jaipur after a gap of 13 years and she is completely in the dark regarding the state gov- ernment’s policies and their implementation on the ground and the changes in bureaucracy over the past 13 years. Thus, handing over the reins of bureaucracy in the last six months of the government, which are the utmost crucial months, is considered to be an immense risk tak- ing manoeuvre. It is also being said that merely being a senior woman of- ficer is not enough. The 1989 batch officer Rajeshwar Singh is not considered to be one of the blue-eyed officers of the state government and he has been positioned in Ajmer for the past two years and sources reveal that his chances of be- coming the next CS are absolutely ‘dim’. The fifth official in sen- iority is Abhay Kumar, whose image is that of a ‘silent worker,’ a non- controversial officer, who finds alargeacceptancein bureaucracy. He has held the reins of important de- partments like Finance and Home, and while serving asACS Home, he has come across as a ‘trusted officer’ of the state government. It is be- ing speculated that since in the May 1 transfer list he was not changed, so he may be ‘changed’ now! Akhil Arora is current CMAshok Gehlot’s most trusted and close bureau- crat. He has a huge role in the state government’s work and word is that not even a leaf can move without his advice or suggestion in the govern- ment and his position, as is being visualised by others, is not less than that of CS. And if CM Gehlot brings him to the helm, it should not come as a surprise! TALES OF BUREAUCRACY Search for next CS ends at these officers? Gehlot expressed displeasure over not taking effective action in Adarsh and Sanjeevani scam and said, Even after so many complaints you people are not able to do anything. According to sources, Gehlot has publicly made a Union Minister an accused in Sanjeevani case. Artists To call a spade a spade needs courage and fearlessness. Having said that, these attributes alone are sometimes deficient. Many individuals and organizations may embody these meritorious virtues but in the delivery of messages; the absence of Art, or an Artistic Expres- sion, can come across as dull, dense, boring, preachy and indoctrinating. When a certain boldness meets creative manifestation; that is what makes for a potent, compelling, memorable and instigative voice. It is, for instance, one thing for an individual to speak, on or offline, and simply state facts, “Let us rise and fight against social atrocities!” Contrast this with a Painter or a Photographer who has chronicled instances of horrors – A Muslim man being beaten unjustly and mercilessly and titles the work, “Phobia”. It is plain to see, which method or means will generate greater empathy and impact. Therefore, I conclude that the first line of defence ought to be our Art Community. Individuals who observe our life and times in a nuanced, sensitive way and interpret it in profound ways that leave last- ing and indelible impressions on viewers observers, necessitating action. ANewBreedOf FreedomFighter Kartik Bajoria Writer-Educator Founder of Driveway Devi – Mental Wellness Initiatives R evolution is perpetu- ated by a critical mass movement, instigated by a period of injus- tice, propelled by a yearning for change, mobilized by one, or a few, visionary leaders. The quest for freedom, social po- litical emancipation, may birth as a slow burn, a minority churn. Like a flame that can swiftly turn a fire, this quiet unease too, can manifest into a raging bull. Horns pointed and sharp. Ready to charge. Puncture wounds into the most armoured and impenetrable shield of bigotry. In my perception, the Bharat Jodo Yatra embodied this spirit and has plat- formed this essential sentiment. The onus however, of keeping this inertia going, and snowballing it into an impactful movement that can realisti- cally induce an antidote to an alarm- ingly swift-proliferating virus of funda- mentalist and extremist ideologies, is on society. Within the construct of our nation, I feel there are three distinct cat- egories of citizens that ought to spear- head this movement. Citizens Finally then, is us. You and I. The common citizen. I believe that apathy or blind faith in any political dispensation is perhaps not the wisest approach. We too, each one of us, needs to sift through the information and propagan- da overload and develop the aptitude, will, and conviction to see through the carefully constructed veil of progress that is being draped over our eyes. Keep our eyes and ears open but display the discerning intellect to decipher truth from projection, reality from perception, and wrong from a scripted right. Each of us will need to join forces with the aforementioned two people types. Lend our support in every way possible – financial, intellectual, physi- cal, and philosophical. We owe it to our forefathers who fought relentlessly to attain and gift us this ‘freedom’. We owe it to ourselves, citizens who work tirelessly to contribute to our country and kin. And we most certainly owe it to our children, who are, in any case, grappling with grave issues and pressures, and are at the risk of inheriting a country that’s muddied by an identity that is narrow, myopic, fanatical, isolating. Journalists Journalism is that non-negotiable, sanctimonious, essential pillar of democracy. One that, it could be argued, has been significantly compromised and diluted in recent times. One that has the constitutional right and duty to investigate, challenge, question, seek clarification and answers. Entire news organizations and their incredibly brave and dedi- cated men and women have been bought over, harassed, threatened, incarcerated, forced to flee; any manner of coercion and duress to prevent them from asking the ‘right’ questions, i.e., doing their jobs! It is, however, in this rather grim and prevocational backdrop, an environment that makes it nearly impossible for scribes to function, that we NEED a new breed of their like, to rise. And I’m not suggest- ing that there aren’t. There is a growing community of the old established, that is taking the bulls by the horn. Like dauntless matadors, they are standing firm in and despite the imminent danger. So what’s lacking? A new breed. How long and how hard will the generation before upholding the torch and keep the journalistic flame burning? We need a young breed of ethical, courageous, unimpeachable men and women who are as much empaths, as they are staunch seekers of the truth. A new breed of freedom fighters must be birthed within each and every one of us in order to take on the might and methodology of the establishment. Only then, is there the possibility of the much-needed revolution, an emancipation, a rebirth!
