logical and gastrointesti-
nal diseases.

BUS HITS CARS, DAMAGES GAS
PIPELINE IN WEST DELHI
New Delhi (Agencies): As many as four people got
trapped inside a sewer line in Outer Delhi’s Sanjay
Gandhi Transport Nagar Tues-
day afternoon. Police said the
incident happened when three
of the victims were working
to repair wires in the sewer.
Sleuths added they received
a call at around 6.34 pm from
locals saying that three workers went missing inside
a sewer. According to news agency ANI, the rescue
operation is underway with fire tenders at the spot.
New Delhi: A thick blanket of smoke engulfed east
Delhi's Ghazipur dumping yard as a fire that broke out
on Monday continued to rage on in
some pockets even after 23 hours.
Four fire tenders are working at the
spot, an official of the fire depart-
ment said. Chief Fire officer Atul
Garg told PTI that the firefighting
operations are still underway and it might take a few
more hours to complete the cooling process. No casu-
alty has been reported, they said. According to the fire
department, the call about the fire at Ghazipur's Khatta
was received at 2.30 pm on Monday.
New Delhi (PTI) A bus hit two cars and damaged
a gas pipe line in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar area on
Monday, police said. Police received information
about a road accident fol-
lowing which a team was
rushed to the spot, they
said. It was found that a
cluster bus had damaged
two cars as well as a gas
pipeline of IGL in front of crown plaza on Nagaf-
garh Road, Moti Nagar, a senior police officer said.
No one was injured in the incident, he said. Bus
driver, Chand Singh, a resident of Sonipat district
in Haryana, was apprehended, the officer said,
adding legal action is being taken in the matter.
New Delhi (PTI): The
Delhi government will
come up with the Delhi
Excise Policy 2022-23 in
the next two months,
which will be a revised
form of the existing
policy, senior officials
privy to the develop-
ment said.
It is also likely that
the government will
once again allow dis-
counts on the retail sale
of liquor, but with mul-
tiple caveats.
As the revised excise
policy will take at least
two months to be noti-
fied, the excise depart-
ment, in the meantime,
has extended the liquor
trade licences of all pri-
vate vends till May 31.
To be sure, the rules
mandate that a new ex-
cise policy is notified
every year at the start
of the financial year. In
the past, the same ex-
cise policy was notified
every year without any
reforms. It was only last
year that the entire ex-
cise regime of Delhi
was restructured with
zones redefined, taxes
subsumed into one up-
front charge and tighter
rules brought in to im-
prove the buying expe-
rience of consumers.
“The new policy will
not be anything drasti-
cally different from the
current one. But, it is
going to address all the
problems that were
identified in the 2021-22
excise policy, which
came into effect from
November 16 last
year,” said one excise
official, requesting ano-
nymity
.
The official, as also a
second senior official,
hinted that discounts
may see a comeback in
Delhi. But, this time, it
will be highly regulated
and the rules will be nu-
anced.
Apart from that, the
excise department is
also working on simpli-
fying the process of pro-
curement of liquor for
restaurants, bars and
clubs as under the new
regime, they have to
procure all their stocks
from retailers only and
not wholesalers.
The upcoming policy
will also have more de-
tails on the procure-
ment of imported and
draught beer as several
restauranteurs had
complained about the
same.
Discounts on liquor may return with caveats

PM addresses BJP leaders, tells
them to take up social justice work
New Delhi (PTI):
Prime Minister Naren-
dra Modi asked BJP
MPs on Tuesday to un-
dertake various pro-
grammes as part of “sa-
majik nyay pakhwada”
(fortnight dedicated to
social justice) from its
foundation day on April
6, and also asserted that
it is the only ruling par-
ty which has recognised
contributions of every
Prime Minister by
building a museum to
honour them.
With the birth anni-
versary of BR Ambed-
kar, architect of the
Constitution, falling on
April 14, PM Modi at the
BJP’s parliamentary
party meeting asked
party MPs to reach out
to people, especially the
disadvantaged sections
of society like Sched-
uled Castes, to high-
light various govern-
ment programmes for
their welfare.
Quoting him, Union
Minister Arjun Ram
Meghwal told reporters
that PM Modi asked
parliamentarians to
work to spread aware-
ness about the central
government’s welfare
schemes for housing,
nutrition and free
grains among others.
With a museum dedi-
cated to all former
Prime Ministers of In-
dia set to be inaugurat-
ed on April 14, PM Modi
noted his address from
the ramparts of Red
Fort on August 15 in
which he had lauded
their contributions.
“He said we are the
only ones to have ac-
knowledged former
Prime Ministers’ con-
tributions irrespective
of the party they came
from,” a BJP MP said.
The BJP has often ac-
cused the Congress,
which has ruled the
country for much of the
period since Independ-
ence, of glorifying the
Prime Ministers from
its ruling Nehru-Gan-
dhi family while ignor-
ing others.
“This is essentially
democratisation of na-
tional recognition and
articulation of popular
gratitude towards all of
our former Prime Min-
isters,” BJP MP Vinay
Sahasrabuddhe said.
That the museum is
being inaugurated on
BR Ambedkar’s birth
anniversary is a recog-
nition of the democrat-
ic architecture he be-
queathed to the country
,
another party leader
said, referring to PM
Modi’s speech.
PM Modi also noted
that the birth anniver-
sary of noted social re-
former Jyotirao Phule
falls on April 11.
An exhibition on the
movement for India’s
Independence was also
held at Ambedkar In-
ternational Centre, the
meeting’s venue, where
PM Modi arrived earli-
er than its scheduled
beginning.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked MPs to reach out to disadvantaged section of society to highlight various govt schemes.

The Thackeray fami-

toshree is often used by
Sainiks (Shiv Sena
workers) to refer to the
top leadership of the
party. Literally, the
word means ‘Mother’.
The BJP is trying to
corner the Shiv Sena on
this issue and has been
taking potshots using
the media reports about

made no mention of the

‘Need for dialogue with Pak on nukes’
New Delhi (PTI): Voic-
ing concern over the ac-
cidental firing of a mis-
sile that landed in Paki-
stan, Congress leader
Manish Tewari on
Tuesday called for an
institutionalised dia-
logue on nuclear issues.
Raising the matter
during Zero Hour, he
said facts suggest that
Pakistan had prepared
a retaliatory strike
when the missile had
entered their territory
.
“The trajectory of
the missile had a large
number of civilian air-
craft in its vicinity and
there could have been
an unintended catastro-
phe. We were lucky on
that particular day,”
Tewari said.
The Lok Sabha mem-
ber from Anandpur Sa-
hib said the incident
makes a strong case for
an institutionalised dia-
logue with Pakistan on
nuclear issues.
He said Defence Min-
ister Rajnath Singh had
made a statement on
the issue on March 15
and informed the House
that a Court of Inquiry
had been ordered to
probe the incident.
According to the de-
fence ministry, one
missile got accidental-
ly released around 7
pm on March 9 during
a routine maintenance
and inspection of the
missile unit.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Ba-

It is strange that Muslim ven-
dors who must have been
running their businesses in
the vicinity of temples for
years are suddenly being
seen as threats and untouch-
ables. There is no plausible
reason other than Islamopho-
bia for this bigoted appeal.
These divisive forces are
not confined to the two Kar-
nataka districts. Sadiq Ali, a
tailor who stitched clothes
for Ram Lalla, the presiding
deity at the makeshift tem-
ple in Ayodhya for several
years, was replaced by a dif-
ferent tailor a few years ago.
In fact, lanes in Ayodhya are
the best examples of com-

his shop was located on land
belonging to Hanuman
Garhi temple.
Two Karnataka BJP lead-

House over the state’s law and
order situation.
Leader of Opposition,
BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari and
four other BJP legislators
have been suspended by the
Speaker following the ruck-
us. “The Opposition had de-
manded a discussion over
law and order and the gov-
ernment declined. They
brought Kolkata police per-
sonnel in civil dress to clash
with our MLAs,” Adhikari
later told the media.
The Birbhum killings were
the triggering factor. For al-
most five decades now and
since the Sixties, the land
which has nurtured culture
and tradition has been haunt-
ed by tremendous political
upheavals and turbulent
times. Who scored over whom
is certainly not a point to be
pondered upon, but that the
stateisrockedbytheseviolent
incidentshasbeenamatterof
huge concern and shame and
there seems to be no light at
the end of the tunnel.
Meanwhile, in Bogtui vil-
lage… the numbness is still
very much there. The palpa-
ble shock and trauma among
those living in the vicinity
hang heavy
. The rustle of
dried leaves makes you wary
that you have visited a crema-
torium or a burial ground of
sorts where the dead lay… but
not in peace. The stench of
burnt flesh is still in the air,
you may feel nauseating with
the very thought that around
8 people were roasted alive!
The area is deserted…
Most of those, whose nearest
ones were charred to death,
have fled to “safer” vistas.
Even shops and kiosks near
the “Killer Spot” have
downed their shutters. Dur-
ing the day, some manage to
huddle and discuss the conse-
quences of that horrible
night when “factional feud
within the ruling party” ini-
tiated the dance of death!
Outsiders are looked upon
suspiciously
. An eerie silence
is deafening and people hail-
ing from outside get those
looks! Often cries of women
who have lost their family
members rent the air. After

happening in the land of
Tagore? Bogtui is only 62 km
from Santiniketan, the abode
of peace that Rabindranath
Tagore had built so much love
and affection. Also, Nanoor,
where 11 landless peasants
were killed in 2000, is even
closer to this abode of peace—
just about 20 km!

The recent tragedy (in Bog-
tui) looks like an intra-TMC
clash over the loot from the
illegal stone and sand trade.
In this column I would like
to chronicle in short… the
dance of death that has
wrought havoc to our Sonar
Bangla. Naxalism was
crushed following violence
after the Congress won the
state Assembly polls in 1972.
However, till date… the
chronicled figure of the toll
has never been disclosed.
Governments have come
and gone but violence has
been constant. After the Left
Front came to power in West
Bengal in 1977, the govern-
ment, two years later, forcibly
evicted refugees who had set-
tled in Marichjhapi in the
Sunderbans areas. It was per-
haps reportedly the most hor-
rific manner in which police
in the post-Independent era
had acted even as these refu-
gees had been promised a re-
hab scheme by the Front in its
poll campaign! But in reality
what happened after the Left
came to power was something
shocking! It was once again
exhibited that these hapless
people “belonged to no one!”
When and where will this
dance of death end is the
question everyone is asking.
Isn’t it time, we looked back
and told ourselves that
enough is enough and what is
the message we are passing
on to others about ourselves?

Muslims made huge

Lucknow (PTI): BSP
chief Mayawati on
Tuesday claimed the
Muslims made a “huge
mistake” by voting for
the Samajwadi Party
which she accused of
being “complicit with

Uttar Pradesh Assem-

The BSP has won just
one seat in the recent-

for the 403-member As-

Hindi on Tuesday, the
BSP supremo said,
“The internal complici-
ty of the SP and BJP in
Uttar Pradesh is widely
known.”
“They created an at-
mosphere of fear by
making the assembly
elections a Hindu-Mus-
lim affair which espe-
cially misled the Mus-
lim society and it made
a huge mistake of vot-
ing unilaterally for the
SP. This has to be recti-

here.” Soon after the
results, Mayawati had
claimed the “fear of
‘jungle raj’ returning”
in the state if the Sama-
jwadi Party emerged
victorious made BSP
supporters shift to the
BJP.
She had also alleged
the media’s “aggressive
propaganda portraying
the BSP as the ‘B team

SC: ENV MUST PREVAIL OVER

PLEA MOVED IN APEX COURT
CHALLENGING DELIMITATION
EXERCISE IN JK
New Delhi: The Uttar Pradesh government on Tues-
day told Supreme Court that it had opposed the bail
plea of Ashish Mishra, son of Union minister Ajay
Mishra, in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri vio-
lence that left eight people, including four farmers,
dead. It also stated that the “attack” on a witness in
the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case had nothing to do
with the case — as alleged — but was the outcome
of some people throwing gulal on the person. The
UP government said that the submission of the
petition that state did not effectively oppose the bail
application of Ashish Mishra is “completely untrue.”
New Delhi (PTI): The environment
“must prevail” over other rights
and forests must be preserved, the
Supreme Court said while hear-
ing a matter which involved issues
regarding forest and non-forest land
in Haryana. The SC stressed upon the
need to preserve forests and said it is
because of strict interpretation by the
SC that the forest cover is increasing.
“Environment is more important than
your civil rights,” a Bench headed by
Justice AM Khanwilkar said, adding,
“The environment must prevail over
all other rights”.
New Delhi (ANI): A petition has been
moved in the Supreme Court chal-
lenging the increase of the number of
seats in the Union Territory of Jammu
and Kashmir from 107 to 114. The
plea was filed by two residents of
Jammu and Kashmir. The petitioner
sought to declare that the increase
in the number of seats in JK, as
provided in the J-K Reorganisation
Act, 2019, is ultra vires the constitu-
tional provisions such as Articles 81,
82, 170, 330 and 332 and statutory

by 70 paise, taking the
total increase since
last week to `4.80/L.
Petrol in Delhi will
now cost `100.21 per
litre against `99.41
previously, while die-
sel rates have gone
up from `90.77 per

Rates
have been

upon the
incidence of
local taxation.
Petrol price in the
national capital had
last crossed `100 a li-
tre mark on July 7,
2021, and went on to
touch an all-time high
of `110.04 before the
Modi government on
November 4 reduced
excise duty on auto fu-
els. Most states
matched that cut with
a reduction in local
sales tax or VAT.
This is the seventh
increase in prices
since the ending of a
four-and-half-month
long hiatus in rate re-
vision on March 22.
On the first four occa-
sions, prices were in-
creased by 80 paise a
litre. On the following
days, petrol price went
up by 50 paise and 30
paise a litre, while die-
sel rose by 55 paise and
35 paise a litre.
In all, petrol and die-
sel prices have gone up
by `4.80 per litre -
the
steepest increase in
any eight days since
the daily price revi-
sion was implemented
in June 2017.
In Mumbai, petrol
comes for `115.0/L,
while in Chennai, it is
priced at `105.94 and
in Kolkata at `109.68.
Diesel is priced at
`99.25/L in Mumbai,
Rs 96 in Chennai and
Rs 94.62 in Kolkata.
Rajasthan’s Ganga-
nagar district has the
costliest fuel in the
country at `117.14 per
litre for petrol and
`99.96 for diesel.

New Delhi (PTI): The

fused capital amount-
ing to `2,86,043 crore in
public sector banks
(PSBs) during the last
five years and they are
sufficiently capital-
ised, Parliament was
informed on Tuesday
.
The government in-

crore between 2017-18

As per inputs re-
ceived from RBI, Capi-
tal to Risk-weighted
Assets Ratio (CRAR)
of PSBs has improved
substantially over the
past three years, in-
creasing from 12.20%
at the end of 2018-19 to
14.34% as on December
31, 2021, Minister of
State for Finance
Bhagwat K Karad said.
“As reflected in their
capital position as on
December 31, 2021,
PSBs are currently suf-
ficiently capitalised,”
he said.
With regard to Gen-
eral Insurance Corpo-
ration of India (GIC),
Karad said, no propos-
al to privatise GIC is
under consideration
of the government at
present. “Further, as
per inputs received, to-

he said.
Govt to set up global
mkt intelligence network
New Delhi (PTI):
The government is
setting up a global
market intelligence
network to boost In-
dia’s exports from
the micro, small and
medium enterprises
sector, Union minis-
ter Narayan Rane
said on Tuesday
.
The Global Mar-
ket Intelligence Net-
work will act as a
knowledge reposito-
ry of export-related
data on foreign mar-
kets and facilitate
easier market access
for MSME exporters.
India’s MSME sec-
tor accounts for 45%
of its exports. There
is a huge untapped
potential to boost
outward shipments
from the segment.
However, lack of
credible trade-relat-
ed data on overseas
markets has been
one of the key bottle-
necks impeding the
MSME sector from
realising its true ex-
port potential by tap-
ping new market op-
portunities.
Rane said the gov-
ernment is keen to
strengthen the
MSME sector.
“Our focus is on
providing easy cred-
it, better technology
support and access
to the export mar-
kets. We want our
MSME sector to be-
come competitive
and grow,” MSME
minister said.

spectrum pricing and
other modalities will
come out in the next
7-10 days, a senior of-

“We are in the final

Trai’s views on

CM’s distribution of portfolios has a clarity of his priorities, without succumbing to political compulsions
IN UTTAR PRADESH: IT IS NOW
THE YOGI WAY OR THE HIGHWAY
First India Bureau
Lucknow: The distri-
bution of portfolios and
some other steps taken
by Uttar Pradesh Chief
Minister Yogi Adity-
anath during the last
two days have given
enough indication that
the second term of the
BJP government is go-
ing to be Yogi way or the
highway
.
The chief minister’s
distribution of portfo-
lios has a clear picture
of his priorities, with-
out succumbing to po-
litical compulsions.
“The portfolio distri-
bution also has a mes-
sage that Yogi Adity-
anath will run the gov-
ernment in his own way
and will not work under
any pressure,” said a
senior BJP functionary
.
Deputy chief minis-
ter Keshav Prasad Mau-
rya, for instance, has
been deprived of his fa-
vourite PWD portfolio
and given rural devel-
opment and food pro-
cessing along with na-
tional integration.
Maurya’s loss has
been Jitin Prasada’s
gain. Jitin has kept a
low profile ever since he
joined the BJP least
year and it is this that
has won him Yogi’s ap-
proval.
Another deputy chief
minister Brajesh
Pathak, who was re-
portedly eyeing PWD,
has been given medical
education, health and
family welfare. These
departments are known
as ‘hot spots’ in state
politics and leave the
minister in-charge vul-
nerable to public anger.
State BJP president
Swatantra Dev Singh
has been given charge
of the all-important Jal
Shakti ministry and
has been rewarded for
being a noncontrover-
sial leader who struck
up a good rapport with
the chief minister in
the previous regime.
Former PMO official,
Arvind Sharma, who
was hoping for a home
or finance portfolio, has
been given urban devel-
opment which does not
match with his ‘status’.
Aseem Arun, the IPS of-
ficer turned politician,
was reportedly eyeing
home portfolio and jails
but has been made to
remain content with so-
cial and SC/ST welfare.
Baby Rani Maurya,
another high-profile
candidate, who was
asked to give up her gu-
bernatorial assign-
ment in Uttarakhand
and join active politics
in Uttar Pradesh, has
been given women and
child welfare. This is
certainly not the as-
signment she would
have accepted in re-
turn. Rajeshwar Singh,
a former ED official
who was touted as the
Centre’s blue-eyed boy,
has been left out of the
council of ministers.
Singh had given inter-
views during the cam-
paigning where he had
spoken at length about
the contribution he
would make in policing
and law.

to be president of Pra-
gatsheel Samajwadi
Party (Lohia) as neither
he dissolved the party
nor merged it with the
SP. There are signs of
strains in the relation-
ship yet again. Shivpal,
has alleged that he was
not invited to the party’s
legislative meeting on
Saturday where Akhile-
shwas elected as leader
of legislature party
.
“I was not invited to
the party meeting. I
waited for two days and
cancelled all my pro-
grammes for the meet-
ing, but I wasn’t invited.
I am an MLA from Sa-
majwadi Party but still
not invited,” Shivpal
said told newsmen here
before leaving for Safai
last Friday from where
he went to Delhi to dis-
cuss future course of ac-
tion with SP patriarch
Mulayam Singh Yadav.
However, SP state
president Naresh Uttam
said despite being elect-
ed in SP tickets Shivpal
Yadav and Pallavi Patel
(Apna Dal-K) were allies
as they are leaders of
other parties. Hence,
they were not called for
SP MLAs meeting. Patel
said meeting with the al-
lies will be held soon.
But the argument seems
to have not gone down
well with Shivpal Yadav,
who was LoP during
Mayawati regime 2007-
12.After brief truce in
Yadav family during
just concluded UP As-
sembly elections, the
tussle for power seems
to have again erupted
between SP chief Akh-
ilesh Yadav and his un-
cle Shivpal Yadav.

Raising the issue,
BJP’s Puri MLA Jay-

Demanding that

Russia, Ukraine’s first face-to-face talks aimed at ending war
Kyiv (AP): The first
face-to-face talks in two
weeks between Russia
and Ukraine began on
Tuesday in Turkey
, rais-
ing flickering hopes
there could be progress
toward ending a war
that has ground into a
bloody campaign of at-
trition.
An adviser to the
Ukrainian president
said the meeting in Is-
tanbul was focused on
securing a cease-fire
and guarantees for
Ukraine’s security is-
sues that have been the
focus of previous un-
successful negotiations.
Ahead of the talks,
the Ukrainian presi-
dent said his country
was prepared to declare
its neutrality, as Mos-
cow has demanded, and
was open to compro-
mise over the contested
eastern region of Don-
bas comments that
might lend momentum
to negotiations.
But he warned the
ruthless war continued,
and even the negotia-
tors assembled, Rus-
sian forces hit an oil
depot in western
Ukraine and a govern-
ment building in the
south.
Turkish President
Recep Tayyip Erdogan
told the two sides that
they had a historic re-
sponsibility to stop the
fighting.
We believe that there
will be no losers in a
just peace. Prolonging
the conflict is not in
anyone’s interest, Er-
dogan said, as he greet-
ed the two delegations
seated on opposite sides
of a long table.
Putin’s aim of a quick
military victory has
been thwarted by stiff
Ukrainian resistance
but still hopes were not
high for a break-
through. Reflecting
skepticism among
Ukraine’s Western al-
lies, British Foreign
Secretary Liz Truss
said she thought the
Russian president was
not serious about talks.
In fighting that has
devolved into a back-
and-forth stalemate,
Ukrainian forces retook
Irpin, a key suburb
northwest of the capi-
tal, Kyiv, President Vo-
lodymyr Zelenskyy said
late Monday
.
But he warned that
Russian troops were re-
grouping to take the
area back.
We still have to fight,
we have to endure,
Zelenskyy said in his
nighttime video ad-
dress to the nation.
This is a ruthless war
against our nation,
against our people,
against our children.
He also lashed out at
Western countries,
which he has repeated-
ly accused of not going
far enough in either
sanctioning Moscow or
supporting Ukraine
with weapons. As a re-
sult, Ukrainians were
paying with their lives,
he said.
If someone is afraid
of Russia, if he or she is
afraid to make the nec-
essary decisions that
are important to us, in
particular for us to get
planes, tanks, neces-
sary artillery, shells, it
makes these people re-
sponsible for the catas-
trophe created by Rus-
sian troops in our cities,
too, he said.
Delhi Govt to use EVs
for all official purposes
New Delhi (Agen-
cies): In a major push
to control the ever ex-
isting problem of pol-
lution in Capital and to
encourage people to
buy electric vehicles,
the Delhi government
has decided to switch
over to electric vehi-
cles from petrol and
CNG ones for all offi-
cial purposes. Earlier,
the New Delhi Munici-
pal Council (NDMC) in
February had an-
nounced to go green
and purchase only elec-
tric vehicles for official
use and enforcement
drives.
The committee
formed to prepare poli-
cy for the purchase/
hire/leader electric ve-
hicles has also come up
with revised guidelines
and fixed net dealer
price (NDP) at Rs` 4.75
lakh. According to NDP,
bureaucrats and offi-
cials will purchase ve-
hicles within the given
price range.
As per the revised
guidelines, “All leased/
hired cars used for the
commute of GNCTD of-
ficers shall be electric
cars and department,
guarantee institutions/
autonomous bodies
will decide the type of
(dry/wet lease) of elec-
tric vehicles at their
own level on the basis
of resources available
with them.”
From announcing 1
lakh ‘green’ jobs in 5
years through ‘Smart
Urban Farming’, new
solar policy in this
year’s budget to Go
green on terraces and
verandas and apps
along with efforts to
make environment
friendly solar city, the
city Government has
been making all efforts
to reduce pollution to
acceptable levels.
Making traffic smooth, 62
congestion points identified
New Delhi(Agencies):
In a bid to make traffic
smooth in Capital, The Del-
hi Traffic Police have come
out with an action plan. It
has identified 62 conges-
tion points and plans are
afoot to reduce the congestion in these areas. The
problems in vehicular movement in theses areas
mainly results from construction work, cave-ins,
illegal encroachments on daily basis. The available
police data tells that the most congestion points
were in the South district (14), followed by East
(10), West (10) and North districts (13) of Delhi.
The police have been facing difficulties in maintain-
ing smooth traffic movement at Lala Lajpat Rai
Marg, Barapullah flyover, Ashram Chowk.
Govt: FIRs filed in Delhi,
Mumbai in Sulli Deals,
Bulli Bai apps,6 held
New Delhi (PTI): Po-
lice have registered
FIRs in Delhi and Mum-
bai and arrested six per-
sons in connection with
the cases against ‘Sulli
Deals’ and ‘Bulli Bai’
apps, the government
said in Lok Sabha on
Tuesday
.
Also, a charge sheet
has been filed in court
on March 4, 2022 in the
Sulli Deals case.
The two apps had tar-
geted Muslim women
and posted their pic-
tures without consent,
triggering outrage and
prompting authorities
to ban them.
Replying to a query
on the issue, Union
Minister of State for
Home Ajay Kumar
Mishra said the Delhi
Police and Mumbai Po-
lice have registered
FIRs in the matter of
‘Sulli Deals’ and ‘Bulli
Bai’ apps cases under
the Indian Penal Code,
1860 and the Informa-
tion Technology Act,
2000.
After an investiga-
tion into the case, the
Delhi Police has arrest-
ed the accused, Aumka-
reshwar Thakur, in the
‘Sulli Deals’ case, he
said in a written reply
.
He said the charge
sheet has been filed in
court on March 4, 2022.
In the ‘Bulli Bai’ inci-
dent, the minister said,
the Delhi Police have
arrested the main ac-
cused, Niraj Bishnoi. In
addition to this, four
other accused were also
arrested by the Mumbai
Police from Karnataka,
Uttarakhand and Odis-
ha.
There is no report
about obscenity in re-
spect of minor girls and
currently, all the ac-
cused arrested are in
judicial custody in Del-
hi and Mumbai, he said.
Darjeeling (WB)
(PTI): West Bengal
Chief Minister Mamata
Banerjee on Tuesday ac-
cused the BJP govern-
ment at the Centre of
trying to deflect public
ire over issues such as
fuel price hike by falsely
claiming that the law
and order in West Ben-
gal has collapsed.
Banerjee, while ad-
dressingapublicrallyin
Darjeeling town, called
on hill-based political
parties to sink their dif-
ferences and work for
the development of the
region in North Bengal.
“People are suffering
due to sharp hike in fuel
prices and the BJP is
harping on stray inci-
dents to divert attention
from core issues and
also give West Bengal a
bad name,” she said in
reference to the politi-
cal firestorm over the
killing of nine people in
Bogtui village in Birb-
hum’s Rampurhat.
“The BJP is making
false claims about col-
lapse in law and order in
West Bengal to disrupt
peace. The saffron party
doesn’t love our state or
its people. They are not
concerned about the
state’s development.
They come before elec-
tions,maketallpromises
and never fulfil those,”
the TMC supremo said.
She claimed that the
BJP government at the
Centre increased fuel
prices after the party’s
win in recent assembly
elections in four states.
“This speaks vol-
umes about their con-
cern for the people,”
Banerjee said.

Raje meets Nadda with Raj polls on mind
New Delhi (PTI): Days
after meeting Prime
Minister Narendra
Modi, former Rajasthan
Chief Minister Vasund-
hara Raje met BJP pres-
ident J P Nadda on
Tuesday as the party
works to put its house
in order in the Con-
gress-ruled state that
will go to the assembly
polls next year.
Sources said Nadda
discussed with Raje,
who led the BJP to pow-
er in the desert state
twice, the party’s af-
fairs in Rajasthan and
took feedback from her.
Her meeting with the
BJP leadership is sig-
nificant as she was per-
ceived to have been giv-
en a cold shoulder in
shepherding the party
in the state in the last
few years as, political
watchers believed, her
style of functioning at
times did not go down
well with the national
leadership.
However, she contin-
ues to remain a strong
political force in Ra-
jasthan and one of the
more popular politi-
cians. A rally she had
organised in the state
on her birthday on
March 8 drew a big
crowd and was also at-
tended by a number of
party leaders in what
was seen as her show of
strength.
She was recently in-
vited to oath-taking cer-
emonies of BJP chief
ministers, including in
Uttar Pradesh, and this
coupled with her meet-
ings with Modi and Na-
dda indicate that the
party leadership may
have turned more re-
ceptive to her to tone up
its state machinery
.
New Delhi (ANI): Del-
hi Police on Monday op-
posed the bail petition
in Delhi High Court of
wrestler Sushil Kumar,
currently in judicial
custody in the Sagar
Dhankar murder case,
saying that witnesses in
the case are so terrified
of the champion wres-
tler and his associates
that one of them had
moved court seeing pro-
tection.
23-year-old Dhankad,
along with other wres-
tlers was allegedly ab-
ducted and beaten by
Kumar and his accom-
plices inside Chhatrasal
Stadium in the national
capital on the night of
May 4, 2021. Dhankad
succumbed to his inju-
ries and Kumar was ar-
rested on May 23, 2021,
on charges of murder.
Delhi Police further, in

accused is the kingpin
of the present case and

er co-accused had ar-
ranged weapons and
men, including dreaded
criminals of Haryana
and Delhi to abduct the
