PAN-INDIA ACTION
New Delhi (PTI): The NCB
on Saturday claimed to
have unearthed a “major”
pan-India heroin trafficking
network with the arrest of
eight people and seizure of
35 kg of narcotics. The op-
eration began on May 24
after the federal anti-drug
agency first intercepted
two women passengers
who landed in Bengaluru
from Zimbabwe and about
7 kg of heroin was seized
from them. Their question-
ing led NCB officials to
various other links — a

New Delhi: The Direc-

Aviation (DGCA) on
Saturday imposed a fine
of Rs 5 lakh on IndiGo
after the airline denied
boarding to a specially-

in panic”. As the boy
was prohibited from
boarding, his parents –
who were accompany-

not to enter the plane.
Soon after a video of

also sought a report
from the airline com-
pany. However, the
DGCA did not find the
response of the airline

New Delhi (Agen-

set to come up at
Chandrawal by April

Water Minister Saty-

The plant will have
a capacity of 105
MGD (million gallons

set up at a cost of Rs
600 crore. The new
plant is likely to be
abletotreatammonia
levels of up to 4 ppm

.
Two water treat-
ment plants are cur-
rently operational at
Chandrawal, one of 35
MGD and another of
55 MGD, supplying a
total of 90 MGD of wa-
ter. While the 55 MGD
plant is also being re-
developed, a total of
160 MGD of water will
be produced at Chan-

For general practi-
tioners, it is a clinical
decision support tool to
augment their capabil-

of skin conditions.
This is particularly
relevant since studies
have revealed that diag-
nostic accuracy among
general practitioners
vis-à-vis dermatologists
is 40 to 50 per cent, Dr
Gupta pointed out.
“The technology be-
hind the app is decep-

New Delhi: The recent
development of senior
Congress leader Kapil
Sibal leaving the grand
old party and going to
RS on SP’s ticket speaks
volumes about Sibal the
politician. Just imagine,
at this time when a doz-
enveteranleadersof the
Congress party are rub-
bing their heels for a
seat in RS, Kapil Sibal
had offers from three
parties. In three differ-
ent states, three differ-
entpartieshadproposed
to send Sibal to the RS.
But Sibal gave a chance
to the Samajwadi Party
.
He will go to the Rajya
Sabha as a candidate of
SP and with that his ties
with the Congress have
also ended.
Anyway, this time Con-
gress was not sending
him from any state to
the Upper House. Keep
in mind that Congress
has only two MLAs in
Uttar Pradesh this time.
Last time Congress had
27 MLAs, so SP
had sup-
ported his
candida-
ture as a
Congress candidate.
This time SP is away
from Congress and Con-
gress has only two
MLAs,henceSibalcould
not go to Rajya Sabha as
congress candidate.
Therefore, he left the
Congresspartyandrode
on the SP’s cycle.
The Samajwadi Party
also saw the advantage
in making him its Rajya
Sabha MP. By the way,
Jharkhand Mukti Mor-
cha leader Jharkhand
CM Hemant Soren and
RJD chief Lalu Prasad
could also visualise the
‘benefit’of fieldingSibal
to Rajya Sabha, but
Sibal gave a chance to
the SP. He did not con-
sider it necessary to
change the state this
time. Significantly,
Azam Khan, who was
recently released from
jail, had put pressure
on Akhilesh Yadav to
send Kapil Sibal to RS as
Sibal had helped him a
lot in the Supreme
Court. Akhilesh also ac-
ceptedAzamKhan’srec-
ommendation because
he saw two benefits in it.
Firstly, a big face and
strong lawyer will be
with him in Delhi and
secondly Azam Khan’s
displeasure will be re-
moved. In any cse,
Sibal’s RS seat was en-
sured. Now it has to be
seen what happens to

G
BAPU’S LETTER TO NEHRU
ON OCTOBER 5, 1945
October 5, 1945
My dear Jawaharlal,
have been desirous of writing to you
for many days but have not been able
to do so before today. The question of
whether I should write to you in English
or Hindustani was also in my mind. I
have at length preferred to write to you
in Hindustani.
The first thing I want to write about is
the difference of outlook between us. If the difference
is fundamental then I feel the public should also be
made aware of it. It would be detrimental to our work
for Swaraj to keep them in the dark. I have said that
I still stand by the system of Government envisaged
in Hind Swaraj. These are not mere words. All the
experience gained by me since 1908 when I wrote
the booklet has confirmed the truth of my belief.
Therefore if I am left alone in it I shall not mind, for
I can only bear witness to the truth as I see it. I have
not Hind Swaraj before me as I write. It is really better
for me to draw the picture anew in my own words.
And whether it is the same as I drew in Hind Swaraj
or not is immaterial for both you and me. It is not
necessary to prove the rightness of what I said then.
It is essential only to know what I feel today. I am
convinced that if India is to attain true freedom and
through India the world also, then sooner or later
the fact must be recognised that people will have to
live in villages, not in towns, in huts, not in palaces.
Crores of people will never be able to live at peace
with each other in towns and palaces. They will then
have no recourse but to resort to both violence and
untruth. I hold that without truth and non-violence
there can be nothing but destruction for humanity.
We can realise truth and non-violence only in the
simplicity of village life and this simplicity can best
be found in the Charkha and all that the Charkha con-
notes. I must not fear if the world today is going the
wrong way. It may be that India too will go that way
and like the proverbial moth burn itself eventually in
the flame round which it dances more and more furi-
ously. But it is my bounden duty to my last breath to
try to protect India and through India the entire world
from such a doom. The essence of what I have said
is that man should rest content with what are his real
needs and become self-sufficient. If he does not have
this control he cannot save himself. After all the world
is made up of individuals just as it is the drops that
constitute the ocean. I have said nothing new. This is
a well known truth.
But I do not think I have stated this in Hind Swaraj.
While I admire modern science, I find that it is the old
looked at in the true light of modern science which
should be reclothed and refashioned aright. You must
not imagine that I am envisaging our village life as it
is today. The village of my dreams is still in my mind.
After all every man lives in the world of his dreams.
My ideal village will contain intelligent human beings.
They will not live in dirt and darkness as animals.
Men and women will be free and able to hold their
won against anyone in the world. There will be neither
plague, nor cholera nor smallpox; no one will ideal,
no one will wallow in luxury. Everyone will have to
contribute his quota of manual labour. I do not want
to draw a large-scale picture in detail. It is possible to
envisage railways, post and telegraph offices etc. For
me it is material to obtain the real article and the rest
will fit into the picture afterwards. If I let go the real
thing, all else goes.
On the last day of the Working Committee it was
decided that the matter should be fully discussed
and the position clarified after a two or three session.
I should like this. But whether the Working Com-
mittee sits or not I want our position vis-a-vis each
other to be clearly understood by us for two reasons.
Firstly, the bond that unites us is not only political
work. It is immeasurably deeper and quite unbreak-
able. Therefore it is that I earnestly desire that in the
political field also we should understand each other
clearly. Secondly, neither of us thinks himself useless.
We both live for the cause of India’s freedom and we
would both gladly die for it. We are not in need of
the world’s praise. Whether we get praise or blame
is immaterial to us. There is no room for praise in
service. I want to live 125 for the service of India but I
must admit that I am now an old man. You are much
younger in comparison and I have therefore named
you as my heir. I must, however, understand my heir
and my heir should understand me. Then alone shall
I be content.

radical changes have
been proposed in the

der the Tour of Duty/
Agneepath scheme

Sources say there
would be some excep-

MORE RUSSIAN OIL IS HEADING
TOWARDS INDIA AND CHINA
Singapore (Agen-
cies): A record volume
of Russian oil is on
board tankers, with
u n p r e c e d e n t e d
amounts heading to In-
dia and China as other
nations restrict im-
ports because of the
war in Ukraine.
Between 74 million
and 79 million barrels
from the OPEC+ pro-
ducer were in transit
and floating storage
over the past week,
more than double the 27
million barrels just be-
fore the February inva-
sion of Ukraine, ac-
cording to Kpler. Asia
overtook Europe as the
largest buyer for the
first time last month,
and that gap is set to
widen in May, accord-
ing to the data and ana-
lytics company
.
The sharp jump in
Russian oil in transit by
sea underscores how
the global energy trade
has been thrown into
turmoil by the invasion,
with US, UK and many
EU companies turning
their backs on its car-
goes and forcing Mos-
cow to look for buyers in
Asia. China and India
have snapped up mil-
lions of barrels from
the country to take ad-
vantage of hefty dis-
counts on the flows.
“Some of the inter-
ested buyers in Asia are
more motivated by eco-
nomics rather than tak-
ing a political stand,”
said Jane Xie, a senior
oil analyst at Kpler in
Singapore. “That said,
there has been an in-
crease in US interest in
India’s buying of Rus-
sian oil, so there may be
some downside risks to
this trade flow, even if it
is currently unlikely to
be dented significantly
.”
Combined Russian
oil flows for Asia’s top
two buyers, India and
China, surged to re-
cords in April, mainly
boosted by increased
purchases from India,
according to Xie.

After 10 straight weekly fall,
forex reserves rise by $4.23 bn
Mumbai (ANI): Snap-
ping 10 consecutive
weeks of decline, In-
dia’s foreign exchange
(forex) reserves rose by
USD 4.23 billion to USD
597.509 billion for the
week ended May 20, the
Reserve Bank of India
(RBI) data showed.
This is the first in-
crease in India’s forex
reserves in the past 11
weeks. The forex re-
serves had declined by
USD 2.676 billion in the
week ended May 13.
India’s forex reserves
have fallen sharply af-
ter touching an all-time
high of USD 642.453 bil-
lion on September 3,
2021.
According to the Re-
serve Bank of India’s
weekly statistical sup-
plement, all the compo-
nents of the forex re-
serves rose during
the week ended May 20
led by a sharp jump in
the foreign currency as-
sets.
India’s foreign cur-
rency assets, which are
the biggest component
of the forex reserves,
rose by USD 3.825 bil-
lion to USD 533.378 bil-
lion during the week
under review, the RBI
data showed.
Expressed in US dol-
lar terms, the foreign
currency assets include
the effect of apprecia-
tion or depreciation of
non-dollar currencies
like Euro, UK’s Pound
Sterling and Japanese
Yen held in the foreign
exchange reserves.
Some NBFCs pose
‘potential threat’ to
stability, says RBI
Mumbai (Agen-
cies): The Reserve
Bank of India (RBI)
has red-flagged non-
banking financial
companies (NBFCs)
in its annual report,
observing that bal-
ance sheets of shad-
ow banks expanded
even as the asset
quality deteriorat-
ed. Moreover, the
regulator said some
of these entities
posepotentialthreat
to financial stability
as their size in-
creased due to high-
er risk appetite.
“The balance
sheet of NBFCs ex-
panded in 2021-22 but
asset quality in the
sector deteriorated.
Nevertheless, capital
cushions showed an
improvement,” the
annual report said.
The report said
the contribution
of NBFCs towards
supporting real eco-
nomic activity and
acting as a supple-
mental channel of
credit intermedia-
tion alongside banks
is well recognised.
“Higher risk appe-
tite of the NBF-
Cs has, however, con-
tributed over time to
their size, complexi-
ty, and interconnect-
edness, thereby mak-
ing some of the enti-
ties systemically
significant that pose
potential threat to
financial stability,”
the report said.
The central bank’s
annual report fur-
ther said that shad-
ow banks as well as
cooperative banks
will have to be mind-
ful of frailties, wher-
ever they exist, in
their balance sheets
and ensure robust
asset-liability man-
agement, apart from
improving the qual-
ity of their credit
portfolios. “Consid-
ering the significant
share of funding ab-
sorbed by NBFCs at
the system level, con-
tinued attention to
their financial
health is warranted
from the viewpoint
of financial stabili-
ty,” the report said.

Bhopal: President
Ram Nath Kovind on
Saturday said India is
providing the most af-
fordable medical facil-
ities in the world and
people from abroad,
especially the neigh-
bouring nations, visit
the hospitals in the
country to avail the
health care services.
He also said that In-
dia is fast emerging as
a medical tourism hub.
“India has the
cheapest medical fa-
cilities in the world
and in the hospitals,
especially in Delhi,
people from neigh-
bouring countries are
found getting treat-
ment more than the
local patients,” Kovind
said after inaugurat-
ing ‘Arogya Manthan’,
a conference on the
topic ‘One Nation, One
Health System’ organ-
ised by RSS-backed
Arogya Bharati here.
Referring to the cor-
onavirus pandemic,
Kovind said a disease
started plaguing the
humanity two-and-a-
half years back. “Only
one or two per cent
people remained unaf-
fected by it,” he said.
He praised the coun-
try’s scientists and doc-
tors for their efforts in
developing a vaccine
against COVID-19 that
saved the lives of peo-
ple. “Hundred years
back, when a pandem-
ic broke out, it killed
crores of people at one
go. But the situation
has now changed with
the development of
vaccines,” the presi-
dent added.
He said that during
his recent visit to Ja-
maica and Saint Vin-
cent, he participated
in eight functions
wherein the leaders of
those countries
praised India for pro-
viding anti-coronavi-
rus vaccines to them
in the hour of need.
“PM Narendra Modi

the countries did not

This comes a day after
Chief Minister Pushkar

announced the forma-
tion of a committee for
the purpose. Notably,
UCC was promised
by the BJP in the

the party before
the Assembly

to ANI, the former CM
said, “This is an impor-

which has erupted that
the implementation of

sentiments or scrap any-

not scrap anybody’s
rights. India is a country
where people

Lay-
ing down the benefits of
the legislation for the
masses, Rawat said that
UCCwouldputtheforced
religious conversions to
rest thus increasing har-
mony among people.
“Withtheimplementa-
tion of UCC, social har-
mony would increase.
Every person would be
governed by one law. No-
body would hurt oth-
ers’ sentiments. The
forced religious con-
versions would suffer
a huge blow with the
implementation of
UCC,” he said.
Rawat ar-
gued that the laws
should be the same for
everyone if the same fa-
cilities are being en-
joyed by all sections of
society.
“When there are simi-
lar facilities for every-

the same too. The way

CLEAR AND SIMPLE: PREZ KOVIND
Praising Arogya Bharati, which was established
in Kerala to provide health care services, the
president said its team is active in 85 per cent
districts of the country. The thinking of Arogya
Bharati is very clear and simple - when every
individual is healthy, all the families will be
healthy, if each family is healthy then every vil-
lage and every city will be healthy and this way
the whole country will be healthy, he added.“In
this context, Arogya Bharati has made a very
positive effort by raising awareness among the
people and by bringing together people from
all medical systems,” he said.

Russia takes small cities, aims
to widen east Ukraine battle
K r a m a t o r s k
(Ukraine) (AP): Russia
asserted on Saturday
that its troops and sepa-
ratist fighters had cap-
tured a key railway
junction in eastern
Ukraine, the second
small city to fall to Mos-
cow’s forces this week
as they fought to seize
all of the country’s con-
tested Donbas region.
Russian Defence
Ministry spokesman
Igor Konashenkov said
the city of Lyman had
been completely liber-
ated by a joint force of
Russian soldiers and
the Kremlin-backed
separatists, who have
waged war in the east-
ern region bordering
Russia for eight years.
Lyman, which had a
population of about
20,000 before Russia in-
vaded Ukraine on Feb-
ruary 24, serves as a
regional railway hub.
Ukraine’s train system
has ferried arms and
evacuated citizens dur-
ing the war, and it
wasn’t immediately
clear how the develop-
ment might affect ei-
ther capability
.
Controlling the city
would give the Russian
military a foothold for
advancing on larger
Ukrainian-held cities
in Donetsk and Lu-
hansk, the two prov-
inces that make up the
Donbas. Since failing to
occupy Kyiv, Ukraine’s
capital, Russia has con-
centrated on seizing
the last parts of the re-
gion not controlled by
the separatists.

He was injured in re-

Avneesh, who carried

RUSSIAN BILL RAISES ARMY’S AGE LIMITS
HAS RAHUL’S
CORONATION BEEN
POSTPONED
AGAIN?
Where it was decid-
ed that in August
2022, Rahul Gandhi
would take over the
reins of the Congress
party and the loyalists
of the Gandhi family
had made elaborate ar-
rangements as to how,
following the conven-
tion of the party’s con-
stitutional beliefs, Ra-
hul would be elected
unopposed as the par-
ty’s president and Sonia
Gandhi has already
started ‘adjusting’ the
rebel voices of protest at
various forums of the
party
. But the results of
the opinion polls con-
ducted by an agency for
the party regarding the
assembly elections
in Gujarat and
Himachal have
shaken the in-
tentions of
the Gandhi
family
. In the
preliminary
trends of this
o p i n i o n
p o l l ,
Congress seems to be
lagging behind in these
two states. Sources re-
veal that Sonia Gandhi
has first taken cogni-
zance of this and she
does not want Rahul to
take over the reins of
the party in August and
be blamed for the defeat
of the elections in De-
cember. So Sonia has
urged that Rahul takes
over the reins of the
party before the Karna-
takaelections.InKarna-
taka, the party expects
to perform better than
the BJP, so the credit
can be given to Rahul’s
‘enthusiastic leader-
ship’.Ontheotherhand,
there is Priyanka Gan-
dhi, whose thinking is
that in the December as-
sembly elections, from
all the posters to the
pamphlets, Rahul
will be at the cen-
tre of Con-
gress’s think-
ing, policies
and rallies, so
whether Rahul
is the president
of the party or
not, no matter
what, he will have
to take the responsi-
bility of victo-
ry or defeat, and there-
fore why not accept this
challenge by becoming
the president. Priyanka
has also insisted on the
party forum that Con-
gress should not post-
pone the presidential
elections, and now the
final call on this is to be
taken by Rahul.
BJP CAN CHANGE
ITS THREE CMS!
Thesaffronparty
,rid-
ing on the storm of
victory, have still not
lost its focus and vision
even in this charged and
upbeat festive atmos-
phere. Keeping the up-
coming general elec-
tions of 2024 at the cen-
tre, the round of intense
discussion in the BJP is
going on from
now on. If re-
liable sourc-
es are to be
believed,
s e v e r a l
rounds of
meetings
of the top
leadership
of the
par-
ty have been held in the
last few days. PM Modi,
Home Minister Amit
Shah, Party President
JPNaddaandOrganiza-
tion General Secretary
BL Santosh took part in
these high profile meet-
ings. It has been decided
in this meeting that ‘de-
cision will be taken
about the future of BJP
ruled Chief Ministers,
keeping in view the re-
port card’. Although no
official disclosure has
been made about this,
but sources tell that this
sword of the high com-
mand is hanging on the
Chief Ministersof Mad-
hya Pradesh, Himachal
and Karnataka but Har-
yana Chief Minister
Manohar Lal Khattar
may once again get
bail. The BJP
leadership is
being stress-
ing that
such CMs
should be
made who
can get victory in the
elections on their own.
Sources reveal that in
this high profile meet-
ing there was also a seri-
ous review of the elec-
toral defeat of Uttara-
khand CM Pushkar
Singh Dhami and Kes-
hav Prasad Maurya and
it was concluded that
Dhami had little time to
prove himself, whereas
Maurya had got five full
years as Deputy Chief
Minister, yet he lost the
election. The ‘Modi
magic’ may have
brought the BJP back in
UP and Uttarakhand,
but the party’s seats
have come down from
previous numbers.
WILL THE
CHAUTALA
FAMILY BE
UNITED?
It was al-
most a
week before
the sentence
of former
Hary-
ana Chief Minister Om
Prakash Chautala was
pronounced in the dis-
proportionate assets
case that Chautala
called his entire family
and told them that ‘if
they really want to
fight the Congress-BJP
in their home state,
then the family will
have to unite.’ He wants
to see his family united
further and he thinks
that everyone should
fight together on
Chaudhary Devi Lal’s
party and his election
symbol. Sources reveal
that Chautala had also
called his younger
brother and State Pow-
er and Jail Minister
Ranjit Singh Chau-
tala to attend
this meeting,
but he did not come.
Whereas it is said that
he had won this elec-
tion as an independent
only after negotiating
with Om Prakash
Chautala and also got
two important minis-
tries in the Khattar gov-
ernment. But Ranjit
Singh did not come to
the meeting and indi-
cated to his elder broth-
er that he was fine as an
independent. But in
this meeting too, family
tensions began to cause
friction when JJP Gen-
eral Secretary Digvijay
Singh Chautala told his
grandfather that ‘he
would be happy that his
family unites,’ but he
also wanted to make it
clear that the either he
or his father Ajay Singh
Chautala would be the
president of this newly
formed family party.
On the other hand, the
Chautala family feels
that by sending the el-
der Chautala to jail
again, the sympathy of
the Jats of the state will
be with the Chautala
family, whose loss may
ultimately be borne by
the BJP.
...AND FINALLY
When Union Steel
Minister RCP
Singh met Amit Shah,
BJP agreed to send him
to Rajya Sabha from its
quota seat. Dharmen-
dra Pradhan reached
Patna to talk about this
and he made Shah talk
to Nitish, but Nitish
spoke with Shah in a
changed manner. While
talking to Shah, Nitish
asked, “Why are you so
interested in our for-
mer party president?”
Shah immediately un-
derstood the matter
and told RCP that he
should first please Nit-
ish and once he agrees,
only then BJP will
move forward since he
does not want to topple
his government in Bi-
har. RCP is now in a fix
while BJP has once
again offered Nitish the
Vice President’s post.

VALOROUS AND
RAVISHING
escribe your-

what would
you say are
some vital
skill or char-
acteristics to
have to make it in the
modelling world?
I’m an active thinker and a
confident girl, I like learning
and exploring new things
and that describes my active
learner. Apart from model-
ling I love interacting with
people and putting forward
my views.
What inspired you to find

Share some insides of
your journey.
From my childhood I am into
fashion, for me dressing up is
very important, it is a way
through which we can
representourselvesand
When other activities
that help us to feel
‘like us’ – such as
hobbies, seeing
friends and going to
work – are unavailable,
getting dressed up may help
people to reinforce their sense
of self, Clothing impacts how
people think and behave. Put-
ting on a ‘work’ outfit might
help with motivation and con-
centration,andwearingsome-
thing special might help to
break the monotony of lock-
down, and lift people’s mood.
During Covid days, I realised
that I should click my pictures
in my favourite attires and
then I participated in some
beauty pageants.
What was the biggest
rookie mistake you made
when just starting out?
During my initial days, I have
done many unpaid shoots for
many designers and that is
my biggest mistake. People
like to spread negative ru-
mours about modelling
and because of that I
was restricting my-
self from entering
this field and I am
still regretting it.

ABOUT “X OR Y”
MOVIE
After so much struggle, she is
finally making her debut with
Iqbal Khan in the “X or Y”
movie. This movie deals with
society’s evil mentality about
the girl child and women’s
health. Naaz is an independ-
ent, strong and self-made
woman. When asked why she
chose to do this film, she said,
“Every girl has the right to
live her life according to her
and she should be set free to
choose.” Naaz said, “ Being a
girl, I have seen all these
things all these years. I am an
actor hence I have the medium
through which I can spread
the word amongst the masses.
And I consider myself lucky
that I have got a chance to
work on something like this. I
feel we lack in a lot of aspects.
The subject was so strong that
I did not even think twice to
say yes and the movie will
very soon be out on the OTT
platform. Apart from this,
other big projects are also in
the pipeline.
LEARN AND MOVE
FORWARD
The actress believes that one
needs to accept challenges and
learn from them to sustain in
the entertainment industry
where experience and deter-
mination are required to
prove oneself. During my ini-
tial days, while I was shooting
for a show and the producer
would want to scold the main
lead but unfortunately he
would scream at me for no rea-
son after pack-up. He would
say, “Kya tumhe acting nahi
aati hai? Itna kharab scene
kiya hai tumne. Not only pro-
ducers but also the casting
team, people on the sets would
speak nuisance about new-
comers. It is like ragging and
criticism that every newcom-
er faces in the industry. Once
I was about to break down and
also contemplated whether I
am in the wrong field. Soon, I
did realise that I will learn
from all these experiences to
move forward and don’t let
anybody bully me.
DATING MY WORK
When asked about marriage
plans and love life, Naaz said,
“Currently, I am dating my
work, myself and I love
spending time in my self-care
routine. I have no pressure
from my parents regarding
this. I feel one should get
married when they feel that
they are ready.
COMEDY OR
DRAMA
Having worked in both drama
and comedy Naaz said, ‘’I love
doing emotional scenes be-
cause through this I can con-
nect myself to the character. I
enjoy doing that because I get
to feel the emotions of differ-
ent situations.’’ But likewise,
comedy is not at all easy. One
of the most difficult things is
to make someone laugh. Sign-
ing a show like Chidiya Ghar
taught me a lot about working
in two different zones.
SOCIAL MEDIA
TROLLS
Naaz said, ‘’I think people
should understand that we
actors also have a personal
life where we are free to do
whatever we like. Even today
I get trolled for posting pic-
tures on social media wear-
ing clothes of my choice. Peo-
ple write negative com-
ments such as Kunti Mata
ye Kya Phen Liya, etc.
However, nothing
can be done in
the end be-
cause it is
p e o p l e ’ s
m i n d s e t s
that cannot
be changed in
one day, So I take these com-
ments in a positive light and
keep doing my work.”
hafaq Naaz has
been in the
world of show-
biz for a while
now. The ac-
tress started
her acting ca-
reer with TV shows.
She has been active in
the television industry
since 2010. In a decade-
long career, she has
done a lot of recogniz-
able work which in-
cludes her role as Kunti
in Mahabharat (Star
Plus), Guni in Sapna
Babul Ka Bidaai (Star
Plus), Mayuri in Chidi-
ya Ghar (Sab TV), Ni-
yati in Kulfi Kumar Ba-
jewala (Star Plus) and
currently Shruti in
Ghum Hai Kisikey
Pyaar Meiin (Star
Plus). However, before
she became an actor,
Shafaq went through
her own set of hard-
ships.
In an exclusive inter-
view with City First,
Shafaq Naaz said that it
was difficult as no one
in my family is part of
the film industry but I
have confidence in my-
self and I believe in
destiny because every-
thing happens for a
reason.

Keep in mind that Congress has only two MLAs in Uttar Pradesh this time. Last time Congress had 27 MLAs, so SP had sup- ported his candida- ture as a Congress candidate. This time SP is away from Congress and Con- gress has only two MLAs,henceSibalcould not go to Rajya Sabha as congress candidate. Therefore, he left the Congresspartyandrode on the SP’s cycle. Governments want vice-chancel- lors of their choice to have a hold on campuses to propagate ideol- ogy .Thisleadstofrictionbetween a government and the governor who is the Chancellor of state universities. Last year there was a row between the Kerala Gover- nor Arif Mohammed Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan over the appointment of a VC. Vijayan later assured the gover- northathispowersasChancellor won’t be curtailed. A similar row is in the mak- ing in West Bengal where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is planning to replace Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, who has been raising questions about VCs, as Chancellor. The West Bengal Cabinet unanimously decided to move a Bill in the As- sembly to the effect. When passed, the Bill will have to be approved by the Governor who may not oblige. T ujarat elections are to be held in December 2022 but Prime Minis- ter Narendra Modi and Union Home Minis- ter Amit Shah have reached their home state to prepare the ground for their party’s success. Not that they have too much to fret about by way of opposition--- Congress is in a disarray and the Aam Aad- mi Party is pushing to find a foothold. The Congress re- cently lost Hardik Patel, a Patidar leader, due to the non- seriousness of its top rung leaders. Hardik Patel has so far not opened his cards about which party he will join but he is expected to switch over to the Bharatiya Janata Party . Hardik Patel’s leaving Con- gress could mean a sizeable dent in Patidar’s support for the party although it is said to be in touch with another PatidarleaderNareshPatidar. In contrast Modi, who was in Gujarat on Saturday , is going all out to win over the Patidar community which voted against the BJP in 2017. The BJP may even have a Patidar chief minister. It is trying to ensure that the Patidars do not feel alienated. The prime minister on Saturday inaugu- rated a hospital run by a Patidar Charitable Trust. In April, the prime minister had inaugurated another hospital belonging to the Patidar com- munity and also addressed the Gujarat Patidar Business Summit 2022. Modi and Amit Shah are personally focusing on the Patidar community who con- stitute over 12 percent of the state’s six crore population. In some constituencies their percentage is especially high. No party , barring perhaps the Congress, can take Patidars lightly in an election year. In some constituencies their percentage is especially high. No party, barring perhaps the Congress, can take Patidars lightly in an election year G BAPU’S LETTER TO NEHRU ON OCTOBER 5, 1945 October 5, 1945 My dear Jawaharlal, have been desirous of writing to you for many days but have not been able to do so before today. The question of whether I should write to you in English or Hindustani was also in my mind. I have at length preferred to write to you in Hindustani. The first thing I want to write about is the difference of outlook between us. If the difference is fundamental then I feel the public should also be made aware of it. It would be detrimental to our work for Swaraj to keep them in the dark. I have said that I still stand by the system of Government envisaged in Hind Swaraj. These are not mere words. All the experience gained by me since 1908 when I wrote the booklet has confirmed the truth of my belief. Therefore if I am left alone in it I shall not mind, for I can only bear witness to the truth as I see it. I have not Hind Swaraj before me as I write. It is really better for me to draw the picture anew in my own words. And whether it is the same as I drew in Hind Swaraj or not is immaterial for both you and me. It is not necessary to prove the rightness of what I said then. It is essential only to know what I feel today. I am convinced that if India is to attain true freedom and through India the world also, then sooner or later the fact must be recognised that people will have to live in villages, not in towns, in huts, not in palaces. Crores of people will never be able to live at peace with each other in towns and palaces. They will then have no recourse but to resort to both violence and untruth. I hold that without truth and non-violence there can be nothing but destruction for humanity. We can realise truth and non-violence only in the simplicity of village life and this simplicity can best be found in the Charkha and all that the Charkha con- notes. I must not fear if the world today is going the wrong way. It may be that India too will go that way and like the proverbial moth burn itself eventually in the flame round which it dances more and more furi- ously. But it is my bounden duty to my last breath to try to protect India and through India the entire world from such a doom. The essence of what I have said is that man should rest content with what are his real needs and become self-sufficient. If he does not have this control he cannot save himself. After all the world is made up of individuals just as it is the drops that constitute the ocean. I have said nothing new. This is a well known truth. But I do not think I have stated this in Hind Swaraj. While I admire modern science, I find that it is the old looked at in the true light of modern science which should be reclothed and refashioned aright. You must not imagine that I am envisaging our village life as it is today. The village of my dreams is still in my mind. After all every man lives in the world of his dreams. My ideal village will contain intelligent human beings. They will not live in dirt and darkness as animals. Men and women will be free and able to hold their won against anyone in the world. There will be neither plague, nor cholera nor smallpox; no one will ideal, no one will wallow in luxury. Everyone will have to contribute his quota of manual labour. I do not want to draw a large-scale picture in detail. It is possible to envisage railways, post and telegraph offices etc. For me it is material to obtain the real article and the rest will fit into the picture afterwards. If I let go the real thing, all else goes. On the last day of the Working Committee it was decided that the matter should be fully discussed and the position clarified after a two or three session. I should like this. But whether the Working Com- mittee sits or not I want our position vis-a-vis each other to be clearly understood by us for two reasons. Firstly, the bond that unites us is not only political work. It is immeasurably deeper and quite unbreak- able. Therefore it is that I earnestly desire that in the political field also we should understand each other clearly. Secondly, neither of us thinks himself useless. We both live for the cause of India’s freedom and we would both gladly die for it. We are not in need of the world’s praise. Whether we get praise or blame is immaterial to us. There is no room for praise in service. I want to live 125 for the service of India but I must admit that I am now an old man. You are much younger in comparison and I have therefore named you as my heir. I must, however, understand my heir and my heir should understand me. Then alone shall I be content. But the situation has now changed with the development of vaccines,” the presi- dent added. He said that during his recent visit to Ja- maica and Saint Vin- cent, he participated in eight functions wherein the leaders of those countries praised India for pro- viding anti-coronavi- rus vaccines to them in the hour of need. “PM Narendra Modi provided 50,000 Cov- ishield vaccine doses each to Jamaica and St Vincent free of cost. The top leaders of both the countries did not get tired of praising India for its humani- tarian gesture,” he said. —With PTI inputs Dehradun (ANI): With the constitution of a drafting committee for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Uttarakhand, the state’sformerChief Min- ister Tirath Singh Rawat on Saturday said that it would not scrap any- body’srightsorhurtany- body’s religious senti- ments, adding that it will provide security to all. This comes a day after Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday announced the forma- tion of a committee for the purpose. Notably, UCC was promised by the BJP in the poll manifesto of the party before the Assembly elections this year. Speaking to ANI, the former CM said, “This is an impor- tantdecision.Thedebate which has erupted that the implementation of UCC will hurt religious sentiments or scrap any- body’s rights will not happen. The UCC will not scrap anybody’s rights. India is a country where people of various beliefs live t o g e t h e r and every one of them is given se- c u r i t y. ” Lay- ing down the benefits of the legislation for the masses, Rawat said that UCCwouldputtheforced religious conversions to rest thus increasing har- mony among people. “Withtheimplementa- tion of UCC, social har- mony would increase. Every person would be governed by one law. No- body would hurt oth- ers’ sentiments. The forced religious con- versions would suffer a huge blow with the implementation of UCC,” he said. Rawat ar- gued that the laws should be the same for everyone if the same fa- cilities are being en- joyed by all sections of society. “When there are simi- lar facilities for every- one, the laws should be the same too. The way wrong practices are growinginUttarakhand, UCC is a necessity for the state. There is a na- tionwide need for UCC. Russia takes small cities, aims to widen east Ukraine battle K r a m a t o r s k (Ukraine) (AP): Russia asserted on Saturday that its troops and sepa- ratist fighters had cap- tured a key railway junction in eastern Ukraine, the second small city to fall to Mos- cow’s forces this week as they fought to seize all of the country’s con- tested Donbas region. Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said the city of Lyman had been completely liber- ated by a joint force of Russian soldiers and the Kremlin-backed separatists, who have waged war in the east- ern region bordering Russia for eight years. Lyman, which had a population of about 20,000 before Russia in- vaded Ukraine on Feb- ruary 24, serves as a regional railway hub. Ukraine’s train system has ferried arms and evacuated citizens dur- ing the war, and it wasn’t immediately clear how the develop- ment might affect ei- ther capability . Controlling the city would give the Russian military a foothold for advancing on larger Ukrainian-held cities in Donetsk and Lu- hansk, the two prov- inces that make up the Donbas. Since failing to occupy Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital, Russia has con- centrated on seizing the last parts of the re- gion not controlled by the separatists. A police constable, Sandeep, also got in- jured in the crossfire while SP (Crime) Deek- sha Sharma and two other officials had a narrow escape. The trio had bullets hit their bullet-proof jackets, according to po- lice. They escaped un- hurt. Over 27 criminal cases, including that of murder and extortion, had been lodged against Dujana. Where it was decid- ed that in August 2022, Rahul Gandhi would take over the reins of the Congress party and the loyalists of the Gandhi family had made elaborate ar- rangements as to how, following the conven- tion of the party’s con- stitutional beliefs, Ra- hul would be elected unopposed as the par- ty’s president and Sonia Gandhi has already started ‘adjusting’ the rebel voices of protest at various forums of the party . But the results of the opinion polls con- ducted by an agency for the party regarding the assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal have shaken the in- tentions of the Gandhi family . In the preliminary trends of this o p i n i o n p o l l , Congress seems to be lagging behind in these two states. Sources re- veal that Sonia Gandhi has first taken cogni- zance of this and she does not want Rahul to take over the reins of the party in August and be blamed for the defeat of the elections in De- cember. So Sonia has urged that Rahul takes over the reins of the party before the Karna- takaelections.InKarna- taka, the party expects to perform better than the BJP, so the credit can be given to Rahul’s ‘enthusiastic leader- ship’.Ontheotherhand, there is Priyanka Gan- dhi, whose thinking is that in the December as- sembly elections, from all the posters to the pamphlets, Rahul will be at the cen- tre of Con- gress’s think- ing, policies and rallies, so whether Rahul is the president of the party or not, no matter what, he will have to take the responsi- bility of victo- ry or defeat, and there- fore why not accept this challenge by becoming the president. Priyanka has also insisted on the party forum that Con- gress should not post- pone the presidential elections, and now the final call on this is to be taken by Rahul. BJP CAN CHANGE ITS THREE CMS! Thesaffronparty ,rid- ing on the storm of victory, have still not lost its focus and vision even in this charged and upbeat festive atmos- phere. Keeping the up- coming general elec- tions of 2024 at the cen- tre, the round of intense discussion in the BJP is going on from now on. If re- liable sourc- es are to be believed, s e v e r a l rounds of meetings of the top leadership of the par- ty have been held in the last few days. PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Party President JPNaddaandOrganiza- tion General Secretary BL Santosh took part in these high profile meet- ings. It has been decided in this meeting that ‘de- cision will be taken about the future of BJP ruled Chief Ministers, keeping in view the re- port card’. Although no official disclosure has been made about this, but sources tell that this sword of the high com- mand is hanging on the Chief Ministersof Mad- hya Pradesh, Himachal and Karnataka but Har- yana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar may once again get bail. The BJP leadership is being stress- ing that such CMs should be made who can get victory in the elections on their own. Sources reveal that in this high profile meet- ing there was also a seri- ous review of the elec- toral defeat of Uttara- khand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami and Kes- hav Prasad Maurya and it was concluded that Dhami had little time to prove himself, whereas Maurya had got five full years as Deputy Chief Minister, yet he lost the election. The ‘Modi magic’ may have brought the BJP back in UP and Uttarakhand, but the party’s seats have come down from previous numbers. WILL THE CHAUTALA FAMILY BE UNITED? It was al- most a week before the sentence of former Hary- ana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala was pronounced in the dis- proportionate assets case that Chautala called his entire family and told them that ‘if they really want to fight the Congress-BJP in their home state, then the family will have to unite.’ He wants to see his family united further and he thinks that everyone should fight together on Chaudhary Devi Lal’s party and his election symbol. Sources reveal that Chautala had also called his younger brother and State Pow- er and Jail Minister Ranjit Singh Chau- tala to attend this meeting, but he did not come. Whereas it is said that he had won this elec- tion as an independent only after negotiating with Om Prakash Chautala and also got two important minis- tries in the Khattar gov- ernment. But Ranjit Singh did not come to the meeting and indi- cated to his elder broth- er that he was fine as an independent. But in this meeting too, family tensions began to cause friction when JJP Gen- eral Secretary Digvijay Singh Chautala told his grandfather that ‘he would be happy that his family unites,’ but he also wanted to make it clear that the either he or his father Ajay Singh Chautala would be the president of this newly formed family party. On the other hand, the Chautala family feels that by sending the el- der Chautala to jail again, the sympathy of the Jats of the state will be with the Chautala family, whose loss may ultimately be borne by the BJP. ...AND FINALLY When Union Steel Minister RCP Singh met Amit Shah, BJP agreed to send him to Rajya Sabha from its quota seat. Dharmen- dra Pradhan reached Patna to talk about this and he made Shah talk to Nitish, but Nitish spoke with Shah in a changed manner. While talking to Shah, Nitish asked, “Why are you so interested in our for- mer party president?” Shah immediately un- derstood the matter and told RCP that he should first please Nit- ish and once he agrees, only then BJP will move forward since he does not want to topple his government in Bi- har. RCP is now in a fix while BJP has once again offered Nitish the Vice President’s post. I’m an active thinker and a confident girl, I like learning and exploring new things and that describes my active learner. Apart from model- ling I love interacting with people and putting forward my views. What inspired you to find the Supermodel in you. Share some insides of your journey. From my childhood I am into fashion, for me dressing up is very important, it is a way through which we can representourselvesand When other activities that help us to feel ‘like us’ – such as hobbies, seeing friends and going to work – are unavailable, getting dressed up may help people to reinforce their sense of self, Clothing impacts how people think and behave. Put- ting on a ‘work’ outfit might help with motivation and con- centration,andwearingsome- thing special might help to break the monotony of lock- down, and lift people’s mood. During Covid days, I realised that I should click my pictures in my favourite attires and then I participated in some beauty pageants. What was the biggest rookie mistake you made when just starting out? During my initial days, I have done many unpaid shoots for many designers and that is my biggest mistake. People like to spread negative ru- mours about modelling and because of that I was restricting my- self from entering this field and I am still regretting it. This movie deals with society’s evil mentality about the girl child and women’s health. Naaz is an independ- ent, strong and self-made woman. When asked why she chose to do this film, she said, “Every girl has the right to live her life according to her and she should be set free to choose.” Naaz said, “ Being a girl, I have seen all these things all these years. I am an actor hence I have the medium through which I can spread the word amongst the masses. And I consider myself lucky that I have got a chance to work on something like this. I feel we lack in a lot of aspects. The subject was so strong that I did not even think twice to say yes and the movie will very soon be out on the OTT platform. Apart from this, other big projects are also in the pipeline. LEARN AND MOVE FORWARD The actress believes that one needs to accept challenges and learn from them to sustain in the entertainment industry where experience and deter- mination are required to prove oneself. During my ini- tial days, while I was shooting for a show and the producer would want to scold the main lead but unfortunately he would scream at me for no rea- son after pack-up. He would say, “Kya tumhe acting nahi aati hai? Itna kharab scene kiya hai tumne. Not only pro- ducers but also the casting team, people on the sets would speak nuisance about new- comers. It is like ragging and criticism that every newcom- er faces in the industry. Once I was about to break down and also contemplated whether I am in the wrong field. Soon, I did realise that I will learn from all these experiences to move forward and don’t let anybody bully me. DATING MY WORK When asked about marriage plans and love life, Naaz said, “Currently, I am dating my work, myself and I love spending time in my self-care routine. I have no pressure from my parents regarding this. I feel one should get married when they feel that they are ready. COMEDY OR DRAMA Having worked in both drama and comedy Naaz said, ‘’I love doing emotional scenes be- cause through this I can con- nect myself to the character. I enjoy doing that because I get to feel the emotions of differ- ent situations.’’ But likewise, comedy is not at all easy. One of the most difficult things is to make someone laugh. Sign- ing a show like Chidiya Ghar taught me a lot about working in two different zones. SOCIAL MEDIA TROLLS Naaz said, ‘’I think people should understand that we actors also have a personal life where we are free to do whatever we like. Even today I get trolled for posting pic- tures on social media wear- ing clothes of my choice. Peo- ple write negative com- ments such as Kunti Mata ye Kya Phen Liya, etc. However, nothing can be done in the end be- cause it is p e o p l e ’ s m i n d s e t s that cannot be changed in one day, So I take these com- ments in a positive light and keep doing my work.” hafaq Naaz has been in the world of show- biz for a while now. The ac- tress started her acting ca- reer with TV shows. She has been active in the television industry since 2010. In a decade- long career, she has done a lot of recogniz- able work which in- cludes her role as Kunti in Mahabharat (Star Plus), Guni in Sapna Babul Ka Bidaai (Star Plus), Mayuri in Chidi- ya Ghar (Sab TV), Ni- yati in Kulfi Kumar Ba- jewala (Star Plus) and currently Shruti in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin (Star Plus). However, before she became an actor, Shafaq went through her own set of hard- ships. In an exclusive inter- view with City First, Shafaq Naaz said that it was difficult as no one in my family is part of the film industry but I have confidence in my- self and I believe in destiny because every- thing happens for a reason.
